Chapter 557: Chapter 478: Siege and the Battle Situation

Modikeyan hovered at the edge of the high-altitude battlefield, bloodshot eyes locked dead on Clark in the center.

While unleashing offensive witchcraft in an unbroken stream, he rapidly issued attack orders in response to every shift on the field.

Within the spiritual network, one command after another stabbed straight into the mind of every besieging Wizard:

"Second, Third, Fourth squads, keep casting ’Element Overload’, don’t stop! Burn out his Calculation Power!"

"Fifth squad, cast the ’Spatial Viscosity’ Curse every 0.5 seconds, interfere with his Spatial Magic Model construction, don’t give him any chance to slip away!"

"Sixth to Ninth squads, maintain full-coverage ’Law Interference Field’! Especially Fate, Time, and Causality!"

"All remaining units, use your strongest single-target offensive witchcraft and bombard in turns according to the timestamps I’ve marked! Remember!! It must be continuous, uninterrupted saturation fire. Even if he blocks this wave, the next wave must land immediately. Don’t give him a single breath of respite!"

The besieging Wizards executed the orders like precision killing machines.

Over a hundred Seventh Level Wizards and nearly two thousand Sixth Level Wizards had been divided into twelve assault echelons.

Every echelon, after unleashing one full volley, immediately pulled back to recover, the next echelon slotting in seamlessly, and the one after that pre-charging their cast.

The attacks crashed toward Clark like a never-ending tsunami, wave after wave.

Light, darkness, fire, ice, lightning, poison, space, time, emotions, soul, matter...

Dozens of different attribute attacks exploded, annihilated, twisted, and recombined madly within a three-hundred-meter radius around Clark.

That zone had become an absolute domain of Death; anything below Seventh Level that stepped inside would be shredded to bits in an instant by the chaotic elemental turbulence.

Clark’s response, however, was still so simple it made one’s chest tighten.

He just stood there.

Both hands hanging naturally at his sides, his black Wizard Robe utterly motionless amidst the raging Energy maelstrom.

Every incoming attack, once it entered within a hundred meters of him, would "disappear" without a sound.

It looked almost effortless, casual even, but Modikeyan noticed an extremely faint stream of silver-white data flashing through Clark’s otherwise calm eyes.

That was the spiritual manifestation produced under high-load computation.

"It’s working!"

Modikeyan’s heart gave a violent thump.

The price was brutal—over the last three minutes, more than eighty Sixth Level Wizards had already fallen on the spot, either due to computational errors or being caught by the aftermath of Clark’s counterstrikes at the instant of attack handover.

But they had finally found a way to suppress Clark.

Put simply, it was the same as when an Eighth Level Wizard faced a Ninth Level existence: use greater output to crush the opponent’s Calculation Power ceiling.

No matter what, when a Wizard used power under normal conditions, in the end it was still "using Spiritual Power as a lever to pry the Elements."

And Spiritual Power wasn’t infinite, Calculation Power wasn’t infinite either.

As long as the strength, frequency, and complexity of the attacks exceeded the "information flow upper limit" the opponent could handle at one time, then no matter how powerful the Wizard, they would be suppressed.

Clark was very strong—strong enough to severely wound seventeen Seventh Level Wizards in an instant, strong enough to casually erase a joint strike from fifty Seventh Level Wizards.

But there was no way he could indefinitely process over three thousand attacks per second from different attributes.

"Keep the pressure on! Don’t stop!"

There was a barely contained manic excitement in Modikeyan’s voice.

After sacrificing over a hundred Sixth Level Wizards, the balance of the High Tier battlefield had finally been pulled back!

The next second, though, that trace of excitement vanished from his face.

Because he split off a wisp of consciousness to check the situation on the ground below.

Then his expression turned completely dark.

Below, the battlefield between the cannon-fodder legions and the fortress defense line.

From high above, the cannon-fodder tide of the Chaos Secret Sect and Tower of Annihilation Alliance Army was still surging against Nolun Workshop’s steel defense line like a black ocean.

But when the tide crashed into the line, what splashed up wasn’t surf, but sheets and sheets of corpses.

Nolun Workshop’s defense line was too solid.

The super-giant composite Defense Array formed by over a hundred steel fortresses had already completed more than 40% of its Energy circuit link-up.

The pale-golden shield was at least three times thicker than at the start of the battle, the Runes flowing on its surface had increased fivefold, and its self-repair rate had risen sevenfold.

Even more alarming, Modikeyan could clearly sense that the Arrays on these fortresses were still steadily and stubbornly increasing in integrity at a rate of about 0.3% per minute!

What did that mean?

It meant that the Logistics Department Wizards of Nolun Workshop were actually continuing to build and reinforce their defensive works while fighting!

"These lunatics..."

Modikeyan ground his teeth so hard that pus and blood seeped from his rotten gums.

He had long known that Nolun Workshop had an enormous number of Logistics Department Wizards.

But this was the first time he had seen with his own eyes what kind of terrifying "infrastructure capability" would erupt when hundreds of thousands of Logistics Department Wizards gathered together under a unified command system.

Who could have imagined this?

On one side, tens of billions of cannon fodder were hurling themselves at the defense line in a frenzy; on another, enemy Wizards were continuously bombarding them with witchcraft; on top of that, they still had to deal with harassment and sneak attacks from enemy High Tier Wizards—and under this level of battlefield intensity, Nolun Workshop’s Logistics Wizards actually still had spare capacity to keep "building"!

And their construction efficiency was this high!

"This can only mean one thing."

Forcing himself to calm down, Modikeyan began his analysis.

"The current battlefield intensity hasn’t even reached the ’bearing limit’ of the Nolun Workshop defense line."

"Their Logistics Department Wizards still having spare force means their defense system still has redundant Computational Power, redundant Energy supply, and redundant construction personnel."

"And as the line continues to become more complete, this ’bearing limit’ is still rising..."

His heart sank.

Trench warfare between Wizards followed a very simple logic:

If you failed to breach the enemy’s defense line at the very start, then as time went on, the attacker’s odds of victory would plummet exponentially.

Because the defender had positional advantage, preset Rune Arrays, stable Energy supply, and layer upon layer of Protective Arrays.

And the attacker?

Every attack had to be constructed from scratch, every bit of Spiritual Power had to be drawn from their own body, every movement consumed extra Calculation Power.

Not to mention, Nolun Workshop’s "fight while building" tactic was practically a slap in the attacker’s face:

"Your attacks are too weak—so weak that we still have time to keep reinforcing the walls."

Why had it ended up like this?

Modikeyan shut his eyes, his consciousness rapidly tracing back through every critical node since the start of the battle.
