Chapter 26: Must Always, Always, Be Ready
[FROLO]
A whole week had passed, but it hadn’t been a peaceful week.
Not outside that one particular hospital room.
The city was in flames. People were running for their lives, others were trying to be good, but there was nothing good, especially when even the politicians of Frolo had shifted and made themselves scarce in the city.
The mob that had taken pride in keeping a good part of the city as theirs was nowhere to be seen.
They had all run. No one told them to.
They left. On their own accord.
Shifted locations while some pretended like they had never been part of the mob before. Hell, they even had the guts to walk into offices like normal law-abiding citizens. All because of one guy.
Sergei Moskowsky.
No one had seen him yet, not since they had heard he had shot his son in Aslava a week ago. No one even knew if the man was alive, but the pieces on the boards were moving even if by themselves.
Moskowsky holdings and Knox technologies were running fine, a little too steady. But even then, their chairman had missed all the meetings that he usually never missed.
Soon enough, the rumors began spreading around.
Sergei Moskowsky had been imprisoned.
They said that Sergei had died.
Others said he had left the city entirely because he couldn’t handle the shame of hurting his own son.
Yet for all the chaos outside, none of it touched that one hospital room in Aslava hospital.
The one where a son slept on the couch of his mother’s hospital room, papers clutched in his hands tightly, while his father ran the company he had insisted his father get back to.
The atmosphere in there was tense, but not because the mother wasn’t healing well, no.
Masha Romanova was in peak condition even with a heart transplant. Granted, she slept more than she spoke, but the doctors had said they had never seen such a remarkable recovery.
It was obvious they had given their very best to fix Mrs. Romanova because they knew that somewhere in the silent hallways, there was a threat that could slash down their families, even in the darkness of bright days.
"Sir, you have a visitor," a nurse said, shaking the son who sat up real quick. freewēbnoveℓ.com
"What happened? Is my Mama okay?" Katya asked tiredly.
He never left, even after being discharged. Partially because, as much as he wanted to leave, the doctors had refused to release him.
They said that one Mr. Moskowsky had insisted that the omega stay at the hospital for at least two weeks.
That the said Mr. Moskowsky had sworn to decapitate anyone who signed off on Katya’s release.
It had only been one week.
And Katya knew that they wouldn’t wake him up for his discharge.
"No, sir. Someone is here to see you, but they refuse to come in. They have insisted on seeing outside the room," the nurse said.
Katya stared at her, then at his mother, who was sleeping soundly.
She was skeptical about leaving, but he also knew that if there was anything good about the deal with the devil of Frolo, it was that his mother was guaranteed the best of services and absolute safety.
It was only better that his mother’s body was responsive, or perhaps the entire hospital staff would have gone missing because of some barbarian they all were terrified of.
"Sergei?" Katya asked, hope in his eyes.
"No, sir. They said not to tell you until you stepped out yourself," the nurse said calmly.
Katya sighed.
He wanted to say that she was bluffing, but the familiar horror on her face was not something to forget.
It was the kind of horror associated with Sergei Moskowsky. Perhaps that was what the barbarian had come for. That bastard who had forced his hand into shit he didn’t even understand yet.
Katya had promised himself he wouldn’t pay any attention to the terms and conditions until his mother got well, but Yaroslav had been a nuisance to him over the phone more than once.
The man hadn’t stopped calling and demanding that he return home.
And Katya almost told him that his father was the one keeping him trapped here, but he never did. Because he didn’t want to piss Sergei off, not when the man quite literally had his mother’s life in his hands.
Oh, but this was a stubborn conundrum.
"Alright," Katya said, getting up.
The papers were still in his hands. He only ever hid them when his father was around, but when his father went to work, Katya would stare long and hard at the unbelievable terms of that damn contract.
It was an insane contrast.
That much was certain.
Perhaps that was why he was constantly postponing thinking about the damn thing, because, honestly, no one in their right mind would ever believe a thing that was written on the damn papers.
"Please take care of my mother," Katya said softly to the nurse, who just nodded at him.
When Katya stepped out, he didn’t see anyone. At first, he thought that the nurse had lured him out to kill his mother because that was what Yaroslav could use against him. But when he was about to go back in, a woman’s voice stopped him.
"I see you’re still holding the contract papers tightly."
Katya turned to stare at the woman who had come. She looked like she belonged to one of those extremely rich families. The way she was dressed screamed power and wealth that was unmatched.
She looked like she could order Katya’s head off his neck, and everyone would scurry to fulfil her wishes. She looked lethal, and the way she was looking at him made him feel small.
Like she couldn’t believe that this was what she had come this far for.
"Do I know you?" Katya asked, trying to understand.
He hadn’t done anything to the woman who was staring at him like she could crush him under her kitten heels in mere seconds. And that horrified him, because her aura was dangerous.
Hell, it matched the aura of the barbarian who had left him stuck in this goddamn hospital.
"You don’t need to. And for your sake, pray you never have to," the woman said, and Katya raised a brow. He was too tired to be threatened by a rich woman who thought he was just a weak omega.
He had recovered from his miscarriage, he was doing fine, and right now, the urge to revive his sharp mouth was so intense, but he had to remind himself to listen.
"Listen, lady. I don’t know what your business is with me. But as you can see, I don’t want any trouble," Katya sighed in frustration.
He had seen what the rich people did.
And he knew that this one was probably here because the entire nation knew that Yaroslav was shit and Katya was in the hospital too.
Maybe she was sent by Yaroslav, but then again, what the heck did she want?
"For someone so little, you have caused too much trouble," the woman sneered.
Katya just had enough of it. fгeewebnovёl.com
"Listen here la—"
"Go put him in better clothes before I go blind looking at him. I’ll meet you at the office," the woman said to the man beside her, one that Katya hadn’t even noticed yet.
Before Katya could blink, he was already being dragged away.
