Chapter 1135: Chapter 593: Extra Story: Live Well, Part 1
He suddenly became aware of who he was speaking to.
He abruptly put her down from his body, staring at her in a daze.
Her clothes were disheveled, and the hem of her dress fell along with her body to cover the view.
She also stared at him blankly, while he smiled and said, "You always make me unable to let go."
Her heart instantly felt like it plummeted from a jet plane directly onto the ground.
She straightened her clothes, feeling stifled, and walked out of the kitchen.
A fragrance of tea was already wafting from the microwave.
The "ding-ding" sound indicated the tea was ready.
He didn’t drink the sobering tea but chased after her, hugging her.
She remained silent, and he said nothing either. Just like that, the two quietly returned to the bedroom.
She stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window of the room, and from afar, the sound of water came from the bathroom.
The night was as cold as water, and she felt a bit chilly, hugging herself.
Just now, she was truly foolish, even believing for a split second...
Yet, such words, he had told her more than once or twice, for him, it was nothing more than sweet talk to get her body.
Irresistible...
Indeed, her body, over the years, had he ever grown tired of it?
In his heart, her body was far more attractive than her heart, wasn’t it?
The bitterness in her heart gradually surfaced, forming a sharp pain deep within.
Early in the morning, Alice left a note for Chester.
I took Rachel shopping.
Last night, before going to bed, he told her he would stay home today. In the past, hearing that would have made her as happy as if in heaven; she longed for time together with him.
However, today, she just wanted to find a place without him, to have some peace.
Rachel held her hand, looking around, very interested in the novelties of T City.
To be honest, in the past month or so, except for yesterday’s meeting with Claud, she had barely stepped out of the house, let alone taken Rachel out shopping.
She bought a helium balloon for Rachel, who was overjoyed, looking at the sky, dragging the balloon with pleasure.
Watching Rachel’s bright smile from the side, she lamented that it would be nice if adults could be so easily satisfied like children.
She had nothing she wanted to buy, but going shopping definitely meant bringing something home. Seeing it was still early, she ultimately decided to visit a men’s brand store to buy him some intimate apparel.
"Well, he’s 6’0", not robust, but not thin either, he’s pretty standard size..."
The salesgirl, experienced, smiled and said, "Miss, your husband would fit in the size on your left hand side..."
"Okay, thank you."
Alice felt a bit embarrassed, blushing, carrying the bag as she walked out of the store.
This was the first time she bought such intimate clothing for him, and it stirred her feelings somewhat.
She wondered whether he used to have someone else buy such intimate apparel or bought it himself?
Lost in thought about this question, suddenly, a voice came to her ears, "Alice."
Alice looked up, her steps freezing.
Alice never expected to run into Mrs. Geoffrey in T City.
Compared to a few years ago, Mrs. Geoffrey didn’t show obvious signs of aging; apparently, the years had been kind to her.
Only after asking did she learn that Mrs. Geoffrey came to T City for treatment for her lumbar spine issues...
Mrs. Geoffrey’s lumbar spine issues had existed for many years, and treatments in America couldn’t cure it, but traditional massage and acupuncture in the Flowery Kingdom could alleviate the pain.
This time Christine Quinn accompanied her to see a traditional doctor, and last night, Christine stayed by her side throughout the night during the acupuncture. In the morning, seeing Christine sleeping deeply by her bedside, the old lady couldn’t bear to wake her and insisted she stay at the hotel to rest properly.
With Christine asleep, Mrs. Geoffrey left the hotel out of boredom.
For Mrs. Geoffrey, T City still held some feelings.
Although she had always lived in New York, Mrs. Geoffrey and Mr. Geoffrey met in T City.
Whenever Mrs. Geoffrey mentioned her sons and daughters-in-law’s love, she laughed heartily, and through her words, one could feel how harmonious and beautiful the Geoffrey family was.
Alice listened patiently, with a slight smile.
In fact, Mrs. Geoffrey had always been nice to her. During the years she loved Howard Geoffrey, Mrs. Geoffrey always tried to bring them together.
But fate in this world is just like that. With people you’re not destined for, no matter how hard you try, it’s just not meant to be. She and Howard Geoffrey were like that. They were never each other’s salvation.
Fortunately, as time passed, her past with Howard had faded away.
She didn’t expect Mrs. Geoffrey to suddenly ask, "Alice, have you thought about when you’ll get married?"
She was bewildered, "Get married? To whom?"
Mrs. Geoffrey laughed, "Oh, you child, of course to Chester!" Mrs. Geoffrey didn’t know Chester much, and any prior encounters were because of Alice. But since learning about Chester’s true identity, Mrs. Geoffrey had developed a special feeling toward him. She beamed, "I knew your engagement with Claud Laurence was uncertain because us women, we can’t just let go. Auntie has been through it, so don’t be shy with Auntie, tell her the truth."
Marry him?
It was supposed to be a natural conclusion between a man and a woman, but why did it feel so unfamiliar; or rather, she never thought about it this way.
Not to mention that he’s unwell now; even if he were healthy, such a conclusion might not have been possible.
Mrs. Geoffrey smiled and added, "It’s okay if you’re not planning it now, but Alice, you should consider Rachel."
"Hmm?"
"You can’t always let Rachel call Chester ’Uncle’ all her life, right?" As she spoke, Mrs. Geoffrey looked over at Rachel, who was happily playing in the restaurant’s children’s play area, and lovingly said, "Children should grow up in a healthy family."
On the way back, Alice Robinson was distracted.
Rachel had fallen asleep in Alice’s arms from the exhaustion of playing earlier.
Alice kept thinking about Mrs. Geoffrey’s words until she returned home.
Chester Robinson was sitting on the sofa, leisurely reading a financial magazine.
"Miss."
The servant addressed her.
He lifted his gaze and looked at her.
She paused for a moment, handed Rachel over to the servant next to her to take upstairs to sleep, and then walked towards him.
He stood up, embraced her, and with a playful tone, complained, "You left a note early in the morning and just left, not knowing I was free to accompany you at home today?"
"I went shopping," Alice said.
He pulled her to sit on the sofa, completely ignoring the servant’s glances around them.
"What did you buy?"
Thinking of what she bought, her face turned slightly red.
He had already noticed the bags the servant carried upstairs, "Women usually buy suits and shirts, but you really are special."
Her cheeks flushed even more, feeling a bit blocked inside, facing him, yet unable to get angry.
She tugged at his collar and said, "What do you mean women usually buy suits and shirts? There are many people buying this kind of clothing for you?"
He laughed.
She muttered, "No wonder your closet is always filled with brand-new suits and shirts, all gifts from beauties."
Hearing the jealousy underlying her words, he hugged her tighter and explained, "I don’t have any women; the clothes are all prepared by my secretary."
"Secretary?" Alice was surprised, "You have a secretary?"
Chester leaned against the sofa, "Without a secretary, how can I handle daily tasks in New York from afar?"
He had a secretary, and she didn’t even know.
What she knew about him, aside from being her brother, was truly just a blank slate.
He saw her stunned and thought she was upset, so he comforted her, "Don’t worry, I’m not interested in the secretary."
"I didn’t say anything."
Her refusal to admit was endearing to him, prompting him to kiss her on the cheek, "You spent the whole morning just buying that?"
She initially intended to tell him about running into Mrs. Geoffrey on the road, but thinking it over, she decided not to mention it fearing he would ask about her conversation with Mrs. Geoffrey.
She replied, "I haven’t gone out for a long time, so I just wandered around."
"Nothing to do in the afternoon, want me to accompany you?"
"No, my legs are sore."
"Really?" He frowned, pulled her legs over his lap, and began to gently massage them, "Feeling better?"
She stared blankly at him and nodded.
He seriously continued to massage her, showing evident affection.
Suddenly she retrieved her legs, entwined her arms around him, rested her head on his shoulder, and said, "Brother... If this moment could last forever, wouldn’t it be wonderful."
He raised her chin, "Why so sentimental again?"
Alice shook her head, closed her eyes, "I just can’t bear to part with these days."
He thought she was worried about his illness.
"Silly," he murmured, kissing her lips.
Alice knew such beautiful days wouldn’t last long.
But they still arrived sooner than she expected.
Sunlight poured into the room, the warm yellow curtains, the flowers on the windowsill, and the fresh air from the garden all created a beautiful morning.
She moaned softly as she slowly awoke from the dream, opened her eyes, and saw his handsome face close by.
She smiled slightly, turned to gaze quietly at his profile.
Time hadn’t left a mark on his refined face; he was so youthful and spirited, yet his brows remained furrowed.
She reached out, wanting to gently smooth the lines between his brows, unexpectedly startling him.
"Sorry, did I wake you?"
Seeing him open his eyes, she apologized.
His voice carried the hoarseness of just waking up, "It’s alright, I always sleep lightly." With that, he drew her into his embrace.
She propped herself up slightly, kissed him on the face, "I’ll make breakfast for you."
He tugged her back down, speaking softly, "The servants will do it, just keep me company."
Alice shook her head, "I want to make it myself for you." I just want to do my best for you, while I’m still by your side.
As she got up, he followed suit, hugging her from behind.
His warm breath pressed against the back of her ear, making her feel ticklish. "Why are you doing this?" she squirmed her shoulders.
He pulled down the strap of her nightgown, placing small kisses on her smooth shoulder.
She was most unable to resist his allure, and under his passionate teasing, her body gradually softened...
