Chapter 179: Our Determination

My mouth hung open in shock as I wondered what Ren was going to do. Why did he just apologize to me? What is he about to do?!

I could feel everyone’s eyes on me and the hold that he had on my arm tightened. Without warning, Ren lifted up my arm slightly before his other hand pulled the sleeve of my robe up my arm, exposing my entire arm for all to see. I gasped in shock at the sudden motion of my sleeve being yanked and then my entire arm was exposed up to my shoulder.

I gasped loudly before I realized that I wasn’t the only one that gasped. Apparently, the other ladies in the room were also shocked at Ren’s action. It was a moment later that I realized that everyone had an expression of shock on their faces. At first, I was slightly confused; however, when my eyes drifted to my naked arm, I immediately understood their reaction.

On the skin of my arms were various love marks that Ren had left from the night before when he sucked and kissed my arm and then my shoulders. Of course, there are similar marks all over chests as well. Thankfully, no one had to witness those. With extreme embarrassment, I wretch my arm out of Ren’s grip as I struggled to cover up my arm with the long sleeve of my robe once again.

I was shocked at what Ren did and it didn’t particularly sit well with me. However, it seemed to work and made his point very well. Everyone was stunned into silence and the hostile atmosphere in the room transformed into awkwardness. The emperor and the empress were both clearly at a loss for words. While Prince Kin realized that his baseless speculations were nothing more than unfounded theories.

“If there is nothing else, then we will now take our leave. There’s a war going on in our empire and I do not wish to waste any more time dealing with non-sense such as this. If anyone of you have free time on your hands, you’re more than welcome to accompany me to the battlefields,” Ren said, looking pointedly at his younger brother.

“You two are not even living together in the same palace yet. That should at least be arranged...as soon as possible...” the emperor said once he had managed to find his voice again.

“Sure,” Ren replied, sounding like he’s had more than enough for the day.

Ren turned on his heels and started walking towards the door without a bow to show any respect to the emperor or the empress. As for me, I quickly bowed before I hurried after Ren. Ren paused to wait for me until I caught up to him. He didn’t really mean it right? We’re going to move in together. Really?

Ren was in a rotten mood, and I guess something similar could be said about me as well. After we exited the room, Ren pulled me to his side and bent down so that his face was level with mine. I was forced to look into his eyes and that was precisely what I did.

“I’m sorry about that...” Ren whispered before placing a large hand on the top of my head.

Since he’d apologized to me the first time, his apologies had been coming out more often. Perhaps, I was mad at him or maybe I wasn’t. I couldn’t remember anymore. That must mean that I must have already forgiven him. I was just so delighted that he seemed to care...about my feelings...

“...it’s ok. Let’s go back?” I replied before smiling sweetly at him.

It never slipped my mind that everything that had just happened was nothing more than a diversion for Ren. His true target was to head to the battlefield, which ironically is at my hometown. I could feel it reverberating from his being; his desire to go to war.

The next day, when I was alone, I quickly took actions to put my own plan into place. I called for a maid who could be trusted to deliver my message.

“I would like you to deliver this message to general Shin,” I said as I handed a neatly folded letter to a young maid.

“Yes, My Lady,” the maid said softly.

Although the young maid looked at me with a curious and slightly confused look on her face, she did not ask me why I was sending a message to Shin. With a polite bow she took the letter from my hand and retreated from the room. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

The message that I sent to Shin was a short and simple one. I wrote that I had some concerns regarding Ren and would like to meet up with him to discuss that. Knowing Shin, he would be willing to help me out. On top of that, Shin seemed to be very concern about Ren so I was sure that he would meet me.

As luck would have it, I got a message back from Shin in less than an hour. Luckier, Shin was free to meet me some time in the afternoon. That was much faster than I had expected. I smiled to myself as I read Shin’s message. For my plan to work, I had to quickly make some allies and move fast after all.

At the appointed time, I met with Shin in the guest lounge in my palace. It was where I could host guests formally so I figured that it would be appropriate to meet with Shin here. Although Ren might get mad if he found out, I still had to take this risk.

“What’s wrong? You look quite worried. Don’t worry, I won’t tell Ren that you asked to meet me today,” Shin said as if he could read my mind.

“Oh...thank you...” I replied with a polite smile.

“So, why did you ask to meet me today? You wrote that there were somethings that you were concerned about...” Shin asked, getting right to the point.

I felt very determined about this talk; however, I felt quite nervous as well. I bit my lower lips as I gathered courage. It wasn’t like I had anything to lose in asking.

“Ren is going out to war, right? The war...at my village...” I started saying.
