Chapter 145: The Festival
“Umm...we don’t have plain commoner clothes here, My Lady,” the maid replied, sounding very apologetic.
“Huh? But the other clothes that I have would stand out too much,” I said with worry.
“We do have some clothes that might work. It won’t make you look like a plain commoner but perhaps a slightly wealthy commoner wouldn’t be so bad?” the maid suggested with a smile.
Well, it wasn’t like I had a choice right now. I guess that would have to do.
“Ok...let’s go with that,” I replied kindly.
“Ok, My Lady. Please wait a moment while I prepare the right outfit for you,” the maid said before bowing to me.
She left for a while and came back with what I supposed was the ‘wealthy commoner girl’ outfit. With the help of the other maids, she carefully dressed me in the outfit. After they were done with the clothes, they moved on to the jewelry. Although they helped me pick out more modest jewelry that what I normally wore, I still thought that it was a bit much.
“Isn’t this a bit much?” I asked curiously as I stood in front of the mirror and inspected my own reflection.
The outfit that they had prepared was a pale pink robe with red flower pattern on it. It looked quite beautiful but with no gold embroidery which I guess made it seem more normal compared to what I normally wore. I had necklaces, earrings, and bangles on. The maid placed a few hair ornaments in my hair, choosing the smallest ones. I guess overall it was ok.
“I think you look very beautiful in this outfit, My Lady,” the maid said with a shy smile.
I smiled back at her and complimented her on her work. If she says that it’s fine, then...I guess it is...
There was a loud knock on the dressing room door and when the maid opened it, Ren walked in through the door. I turned to greet him immediately while the maids all bowed and quickly took their leave.
“Wow...you’re done already...” Ren said as he looked me up and down.
“Do I look weird?” I asked as I turned to face him.
“Weirdly beautiful...if that’s what you mean,” Ren said with an amused look on his face.
“I look ok, really?” I asked, still feeling a little unsure.
“You look beautiful. Just like a daughter of a very wealthy trader. I would hit on you if I saw you like that on the streets,” Ren said with a laugh as he reached out and caressed a lock of my hair.
“Good to know...I guess...” I whispered as I felt heat rush to my cheeks.
Ren just laughed as he pulled me into his embrace. He was already dressed in modest clothes and seemed ready to go.
“Should we have lunch first before we go?” I asked.
“That’s surprising, I thought you were anxious to go,” Ren said, looking quite surprised at my words.
“I don’t want us to get hungry while we’re there...” I explained.
“What are you talking about? We’ll have lunch outside at the festival. They’ll be a bunch of food stalls there. The food there usually tastes great too...” Ren said.
“Really? I’ll be fine but I didn’t expect that you would be ok with that...” I mumbled, slightly unsure of how Ren would react.
“What are you talking about? I even ate whatever that you cooked while we live together at your house,” Ren retorted. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
“What does...whatever I cooked mean?” I asked as I narrowed my eyes at him.
“Umm...I think we should go...” Ren replied, dodging my question completely.
“Ren!” I called after him.
However, Ren was so fast in making his escape. He had left the room before I could do anything but laugh at him. I followed him out and we rode on his horse into town together. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
...
The maids were right, the festival was located in the middle of town at the town square. We arrived at around noon and the festival was already packed with people. The upbeat and joyous vibe of the festival truly sucked me in. It was amazing that such an event could draw so many people and make everyone seem so happy and energetic.
“Wow! It’s much bigger than I thought,” I exclaimed in delight.
“It’s one of the biggest festivals of the year after all,” Ren replied.
Ren tied up his horse where the horses were kept and helped me down from the horse. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to browse around the festival. The festival had so many stalls and everything just seemed so bright and colorful. I could smell the smell of good food in the air while the sound of upbeat music filled my ears.
“Let’s go! Let’s go!” I chanted happily as I grabbed Ren’s hand and pulled him after me.
“Slow down, the festival isn’t going to disappear anywhere...” Ren said but his tone was light.
I turned and smiled at him before I continued to drag him after me. There were just so many stalls here and I didn’t know where to start. Everything just caught my interest. I debated with myself whether I should go to the food stalls first of the clothing stalls first. Then there were game stalls and so many other choices to choose from.
“Ren! Where should we go first?” I asked Ren when I failed to make up my mind.
“Let’s find something to eat first or we can walk around and eat,” Ren suggested.
“Ok ok...let’s go!” I said excitedly as I hugged his arm closer to my body.
Ren laughed softly at me. I looked up at his face to see that it was all smiles. Ren seemed to be in such a good mood today. I guess coming out like this with just the two of us was a brilliant idea after all.
We walked around to the lines of food stalls while we looked at the different food that they had to offer. There were many dishes that I didn’t recognize and I wondered if they were local specialties or food coming from other cities?
“There are so many dishes that I don’t recognize...” I muttered.
