Chapter 131: Pain in His Heart
The next day, I was working at the hospital again. Today was no different from the other days, the hospital was swamp with patients. I had no idea where the patients came from but there seemed to be endless supply of patients. Most of them were injured soldiers that were sent for some serious treatment.
Fortunately, that support the area that I wanted to study and practice. However, it was unfortunate that so many people got hurt from battles and wars. I had no idea up until recently, that the empire was constantly at war. The peace that I observed here in the capital wasn’t common in cities at the boarder or close to it.
I was busy helping a royal doctor stitch up a leg wound when there was a ruckus outside. My stomached lurched at the sound and I had a feeling that I knew what was happening outside.
“You should go...” the old doctor whispered to me.
It was clear that he had the same thoughts as I did.
“Umm...yea...” I mumbled in reply.
I stood up and headed out of the treatment room into the hallway and made my way towards where the doctors were gathered. The closer I got to the center of the crowd, the surer I became that Ren was at the center of this mess.
Why is he here again?
“Excuse me...please let me through,” I said politely as I squeezed myself in between the people to the center of the crowd.
I was right. Ren was standing there in the middle of the crowd. Once again, he looked completely healthy and unharmed.
“Oh, Rin!” Ren exclaimed as he wrapped an arm around my waist.
The royal doctors looked like they wanted to be excused from the presence of the crown prince but were afraid to ask for permission for their departure. Everyone was very busy and having so many doctors gathered here was very inefficient.
“Why are you here, again?” I asked suspiciously.
“I was wounded...” Ren replied as he smiled a little at me.
I had the biggest sense of déjà vu. This exact same thing and conversation took place just yesterday.
“You’re just here to see me, right?” I asked, getting straight to the point.
“I guess...” Ren muttered softly so that his words were for my ears only.
I sighed a little and turned to the royal doctors with a smile.
“I’ll take care of the crown prince. Please head back to your duties, I’m sure that there are many patients in need of your skills,” I said, trying to sound as polite as I could.
The royal doctors looked at Ren and was relief to see his slight nod of approval. After seeing that they could be excused, the doctors quickly took their leave so that they could get back to treating their patients.
“Come here for a second...” I said as I led the way.
Ren followed close behind me. I took him to a private room that was usually used for small gatherings and meetings.
“Is there something that you need from me?” I asked, once we were alone together in the room.
“Not particularly...” Ren replied softly as he sat down on one of the chairs.
Ok, so he doesn’t have any particular reason that he needed to see me. Slowly, I sat down on the chair next to him.
“I see. Umm...I think I’ve told you this before but, we are quite busy at the hospital...” I said, trying to sound polite.
I mean, he’s a very intelligent man, so I was sure that he got the message already. freewebnøvel.com
“I know that, and I understand what you’re trying to say,” Ren replied bluntly.
“Ok...then...” I said with relief. If he understood then, he’s ok with leaving, right?
“I’ll leave after you heal me,” Ren said stubbornly.
“Heal you? But you’re not injured or wounded, are you?” I asked, honestly confused.
Ren looked hurt...
Was he feeling stressed? Was it a mental issue this time and not a physical one?
Wordlessly, Ren took my hand in his and I watched in slight confusion and curiosity as he slowly brought my hand up to his chest. I blinked rapidly as I got more confused when he placed the palm of my hand flat against his chest. I could feel the regular and strong beating of his heart and my eyes widened.
Not quite sure why, I felt heat rush to my cheeks as I started to blush. Ren was looking closely at my face, and when I looked up from my hand that was placed on his chest, our eyes met.
“Ren...?” I called his name softly and questioningly.
“It hurts a little here, when I don’t get to see you,” Ren said softly as he stared deeply into my eyes.
“Umm...” I didn’t know what to say.
“Do you know what this means?” Ren asked, his tone sounding very seductive.
I didn’t know what to say so I just shook my head from side to side.
Ren laughed a little before he took my chin in between his fingertips.
“It means...that I miss you, Rin,” Ren said.
Wow...his voice is so gentle, and I found myself so captivated by him. He just told me that he misses me. Was that why he’s been dropping by the hospital? He wanted to see me?
“I can’t heal something like that...” I whispered shyly as I tried to look away.
“Maybe if you kiss me, the pain will magically disappear,” Ren suggested as he moved his face closer to mine.
“If it were that easy, we wouldn’t need medicine and doctors. You’re fine now...so just go away...” I mumbled my protest.
I rolled my eyes at him in an attempt to hide how shy and embarrassed I felt. Ren pulled me closer to him before he started kissing me passionately. I felt the warmth of his soft lips on mine and my eyes widened in surprise. I had never expected that he would do something like that here.
I can’t believe we’re doing this in the hospital. We shouldn’t be doing this here. This is like my school or workplace now...
