Chapter 624: Chapter 624: Wait... Why Is It an Egg?!
Rong Ye called out anxiously, causing both men to stop in their tracks. Their eyes immediately swept across the room, taking in the gathered crowd before settling on the cub sleeping peacefully in Shi Feng’s arms.
A moment later, they noticed the two cubs resting against Han Jue’s chest. The room gradually fell silent as realization dawned on them. The expressions on their faces slowly cracked apart.
The uneasiness they had felt earlier had not been their imagination at all. Su Qinglan had truly gone into labor.
The instant they sensed something was wrong, they had abandoned everything and rushed back with all their strength. Yet despite their desperate efforts, they had still arrived too late. The cubs had already been born.
For a long moment, nobody spoke. Shi Feng looked at them while they stared back at him in disbelief.
Finally, Rong Ye slowly raised a trembling finger toward the cubs. His lips parted as he struggled to speak.
"Those... are our cubs?"
His voice cracked halfway through the sentence, making him sound both hopeful and pitiful.
The expressions on Rong Ye and Xuan Long’s faces were simply too tragic. They looked like two beasts who had crossed mountains and rivers only to discover they had missed the most important moment of their lives.
However, before anyone could answer them properly, Grandma Lin suddenly rose from her seat.
The old woman’s gaze remained fixed on Su Qinglan’s stomach, and her expression quickly began to change. First came shock, then disbelief, and finally alarm.
"Wait."
The single word sent a chill through the room. Everyone immediately turned toward her.
Grandma Lin continued staring at Su Qinglan, her eyes widening further with every passing second.
"There really is another one."
The announcement caused every heart in the room to tighten.
Another cub?
All of the beast husbands were stunned as they moved closer. The moment they gathered around the bed, the room instantly felt crowded.
The room itself was not small. Compared to most beastman homes, it was actually quite spacious. However, with Shi Feng, Rong Ye, Xuan Long, Hu Yan, Han Jue, Grandma Lin, Lin Muyu, and Su Qinglan all squeezed inside, along with three newborn cubs, the space suddenly felt far too small.
Everyone seemed to be talking at once.
Some were discussing the cubs, while others were checking on Su Qinglan. Questions, comments, and worried remarks overlapped until the room became increasingly noisy.
"Did you see him open his eyes?"
"That cub is definitely extraordinary."
"Move over a little."
"Be careful with the cubs."
"Lanlan, are you feeling uncomfortable?"
The voices grew louder and louder until Grandma Lin felt her temples begin to throb.
A headache was coming.
Su Qinglan had just given birth, and the cubs had only recently been born. This room should have been peaceful and quiet so both mother and children could rest. Instead, it sounded more like a busy marketplace than a delivery room.
Finally, Grandma Lin could no longer tolerate it.
"Enough!"
Her shout rang through the room with such authority that everyone instantly fell silent. The room became so quiet that even breathing seemed loud. Grandma Lin immediately pointed at Han Jue.
"You."
Han Jue stiffened.
"Take the cubs outside," Grandma Lin ordered sternly. "Let Lin Muyu help look after them. The room is too crowded."
Han Jue frowned at once.
"But..."
"No buts."
Grandma Lin fixed him with a glare powerful enough to stop any argument before it could begin.
"The father of the next cub can stay. Everyone else can wait outside."
Han Jue lowered his gaze toward the two cubs resting in his arms before glancing reluctantly at Su Qinglan. Although he clearly wanted to remain, he eventually stood up obediently. Nobody argued with Grandma Lin when she was serious.
Nobody.
Lin Muyu quickly stepped forward and carefully accepted the sleeping wolf cubs. Han Jue followed her toward the door, looking as though he wanted to turn around every few steps.
Once he left, Grandma Lin turned toward the remaining males.
"Hu Yan. Xuan Long. Rong Ye."
Her eyes narrowed.
"You three stay quiet. Otherwise, all of you can leave too."
The three powerful beastmen immediately straightened their backs and became perfectly obedient. Not a single one dared utter another word. Their serious expressions were so comical that several people almost laughed.
Even Rong Ye wisely lowered his head and remained silent.
Unfortunately, the brief peace did not last long.
A sudden cry escaped Su Qinglan’s lips.
"Ah!"
The sound immediately drew everyone’s attention. A powerful wave of pain surged through her body, causing her face to turn pale. Her fingers clenched tightly around the bedsheets as she struggled to endure it.
Grandma Lin’s expression changed instantly.
"There really is another one."
Su Qinglan nodded weakly, her breathing becoming uneven.
"It hurts..."
Another sharp pain swept through her stomach, forcing her to suck in a cold breath. The sight made Rong Ye’s heart tighten painfully.
Without hesitation, he rushed to her side.
"Lanlan!"
His usually calm and elegant face was filled with undisguised panic. He immediately took her hand into his own.
"Are you alright? Does it hurt very much?"
Su Qinglan looked at him, and the moment she saw Rong Ye standing beside her, her eyes suddenly became red.
Despite the pain, she managed a small smile.
"Rong Ye..."
"You came..."
His chest ached at the sight.
Gently squeezing her hand, he lowered his voice.
"I’m here."
"You don’t need to be afraid."
As he spoke, a stream of warm and gentle energy flowed from his body into hers. The soothing power traveled through her meridians, easing some of the pain almost immediately.
Su Qinglan released a shaky breath and felt the pressure lessen slightly. A relieved smile appeared on her face.
At the same time, Hu Yan and Xuan Long silently moved closer. One sat beside her on the left. The other sat on her right. Hu Yan carefully wiped the sweat from her forehead with movements so gentle that they hardly seemed to belong to the usually fierce tiger beastman.
"Lanlan," he said softly, "we’re here. You don’t need to worry."
His voice had never sounded so tender.
Xuan Long remained silent as always, but his large hand never loosened its grip around hers. His golden eyes remained fixed entirely on her face as though nothing else in the world existed.
Meanwhile, Grandma Lin continued her work calmly.
"Good. Take a deep breath."
"Again." freewēbnoveℓ.com
"Push."
Su Qinglan followed her instructions and gathered her strength.
Another intense wave of pain crashed through her body. Every muscle tightened as she gritted her teeth and pushed with all her strength.
Then suddenly something slipped out. The entire room froze. Silence descended instantly.
Even Su Qinglan blinked in confusion.
Grandma Lin quickly reached forward to catch whatever had emerged, but the moment she looked down, her eyes widened.
"Oh."
Her expression immediately became strange. Everyone’s hearts jumped into their throats.
"What happened?"
"Is the cub alright?"
"What is it?"
Several voices spoke at once. For a moment, Grandma Lin simply stared at what she was holding before slowly raising both hands.
Resting in her palms was a smooth white egg. The room instantly became silent.
An egg. It was actually an egg. A perfectly round white egg.
For several long seconds, nobody spoke. Then, as if guided by a single thought, every head slowly turned toward one person.
Xuan Long. The snake beastman froze. His mind went completely blank.
An egg?
His egg?
