Chapter 89: 89-Wise choice

’Tell your men to lower their weapons. He is a battle and a war that none of you can win,’ Kyan heard in his head.

His body clammed up for a split second before he released the tension and acted normal once more. Why? Because the voice wasn’t new to him. He had heard once before in the scene he saw in the light.

His eyes darted down to the fish tank in his hand, and as expected, the fish was staring right back at him with intensity that could melt his brain.

Kyan’s focus faded from the fish, and the warning in his head to the colour of the fish’s eyes thar matched the stranger looking up at him and his men.

’Violet-black?’ In all of beastworld, there was only one beast known for such rare eye colour, and the name of that beast was also revealed in the scene he saw. ’What are the chances?’ Kyan wondered.

"Drop your weapons," he told his men. If the intruder was who he thought he was, then they were in for a lot of trouble.

’Wise choice,’ he heard again.

Kyan debated the next course of action. Because after his men lowered their weapons and retreated back, Sseraphis hadn’t moved an inch. He remained in the same crouching position, looking up. The only difference was that his eyes weren’t wandering over the beasts around him. They were locked on him.

Thinking about the curses and poisons tormenting the beastworld at present, the reputation that followed depicting the cruelty of the nine-headed snake. He didn’t dare act out.

He followed his hands in a respectful motion and bowed his head. "This lowly merchant greets your Lordship," he let out.

Sseraphis blinked. His face remained calm, but a storm of chaos was brewing in his mind. ’Lordship?’

The title sounded familiar like he’d heard it a thousand times before. But he couldn’t place the face before him, and with the blockage in his head, he had no idea if the beast was friend or foe.

Kyan waited for a response. An order, a dismissal or punishment from Sseraphis but after several breaths, he heard nothing so he forces his head up and for a brief second dared to meet those venomous eyes that dominated the Abyssal Coil and sent shivers to the dynasty.

The violet-black slit-pupiled eyes met his red eyes, and the strength behind Sseraphis’s clear eyes forced his to drop and about contact.

"Your Lordship, do not take offence. We were simply alarmed by your sudden appearance and acted on impulse. Be generous and forgive us?"

His subordinates were stunned speechless. None of them recognized Sseraphis because as much as the snake was famous and had a legacy that ran through the realm, his face was mostly known in the capital.

Sseraphis had gone to great lengths back then to ensure his portrait wasn’t painted or spread around during his stay on the surface. Because he feared inviting his enemies in the abyss to destroy the peace of his home.

They looked at each other and at their leader, who was busy bowing at the intruder. ’Greetings, your Lordship," they chimed, following Kyan’s lead.

Sseraphis stood up. His eyes landed on the fish tank. His heart felt like it was being pulled from his chest towards the fish like they were made from the magnetic components and could attract anywhere.

"The fish," he said.

Kyan looked down at the fish. He recalled that not only was it a seven-headed snake, but it was a member of the Noxveil family, Sseraphis’s brother.

He lifted the fish tank towards Sseraphis as a show of good faith. "It’s not mine to begin with. I’m willing to give it to you."

His subordinates were taken aback. There wasn’t a single one of them that didn’t know how badly their boss treasured the weird looking fish. In the years they’ve known him, he hadn’t let the fish out of his sight since he found. He prayed for its safety in temples and fed it rare treasures, hoping it receives an awakening and developed human form.

To see a day thar he hands the fish to a stranger like it meant nothing to him was a rare sight to see. They held their breaths and watched the interaction with anticipation.

Sseraphis kept his eyes locked on the fish. The block in his head didn’t let up for him to remember why he was connected to the fish. The pull that drew him to the fish felt like the sane bond that bound him to his mother, but he couldn’t recall if his mother had distant relatives that were of fish descent.

And then the form of scales on the fish caught his eyes, and he froze. He recognized the scales as one of snake heritage, not just any snake but the Noxveil bloodline.

His mind raced to his knowledge of the Nox. The Lokiwe form is mentioned, and it’s a fish form that snakes of high level can take to hide in plain sight.

"I didn’t say I wanted it," he let out but didn’t look away. The Loliwe form was a forbidden technique in his family, and without a study of the Nox, it was close to impossible to pull it off so flawlessly. Which made the snake hiding in the fish tank all the more interesting to him.

"A white blooded snake?" His eyes grew more curious.

Kyan lowered his head, and he too stared at the fish. He was deeply troubled about why the seven-headed snake insisted on making things hard for him by refusing to show itself. In the vision, the fish had attracted Sseraphis, and together, they left for the underwater palace while he was dragged down there by the white string of fate that linked him to Ssoren.

’Sseraphis appearing here is too early. Perhaps the bond hasn’t formed yet, and I am free to walk my own path,’ he thought with relief. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

As much as a relationship with the Noxveil family was enviable and sought after, he didn’t want it. Being connected to rich and influential beasts meant attracting rich and influential enemies like the emperor and getting tortured. He refused such a fate. freёwebnovel.com

"I don’t think that I am the right beast to be hosting your brother. Since you’ve arrived, I should hand him over to you," he let out, sounding genuinely relieved.

"Brother?" Sseraphis paused. Of all his brother who grew up under the sea in the care of his parents, there were none that had reached a level strong enough to practise the lokiwe form.

The one who came close was his twin Ssirel, but that crazy fellow had no talent for such a complicated technique.

"Show yourself," he said.

He opened his hand, and an ancient wooden covered book with glowing silvery edges and seal appeared on his palm. On the cover the word ’Nox’ glowed brightly.

"Come out or face the consequences," he warned. With a click onto the lock, the pages flew open to an eerie page that had an image of a fish with snake scales drawn on it with instructions written in ancient tongue. "The Darwa should be a good technique to counter the lokiwe form," he spat out.

Kyan and his comrades had no clue what that method was, but the fish stilled, and the water in the tank froze over.

The next second, the fish tank cracked, and the out flipped the fish in midair. As it landed on the ground, it transformed into a human form, and telling it apart from Sseraphis was hard. Even Sseraphis couldn’t stand the resemblance.

Same purple hair, purplish-black eyes, same cold aura, and the ink painted skin and fingertips. It was like looking at a reflection in the mirror, except one was dressed plainly while the other was dressed in expensive white robes.

"The darwa... you’d strip your brother’s body of his scales and true skin?" Ssoren asked, baring his teeth. "How inhumane."
