Chapter 1075: Chapter 1074: Shen Bailian Tries to Harm Others, but Ends Up Hurting Herself
After they left, the night was already deep. Chen Ming stood there blankly scratching his head. "If there’s nothing else, I’ll go back and rest."
Bo Nianyao, though, called him back. "Chen Ming, you got scared, huh? Don’t take it to heart. That little brat’s been spoiled rotten by her Bo mom—afraid of nothing and no one. She figures if she messes something up, I’ll clean up her ass for her, and if not, there’s still Xichen. What happened today... actually doesn’t really count as a big deal, just some mischief."
Chen Ming used to hang out with Gu Anxi too, and he’d never have thought a single bout of mischief from her could turn the world upside down. For a moment he didn’t even know what to say, but deep down he understood: with this one stunt, Anxi had pulled off several things—
Qin Siyuan would probably be able to use this incident to cash in a favor from the Wang Family. Jiangcheng was the Wang Family’s base; in the future, Qin Siyuan’s work there would go a lot smoother.
He... would be meeting Beauty Song many more times.
Wanqing probably had some feelings for Professor Bo, and Anxi had given her a knock.
She’d wrapped all those things up in one go. Someone as straightforward as Chen Ming, with just one track in his gut, could never have come up with that. It left him full of admiration.
Bo Nianyao, however, didn’t take it seriously and was still all smiles. "Chen Ming, come on, let’s have a little drink together. It’s been a long time since we relaxed a bit."
Chen Ming was tempted too, and sat down right away. The auntie went off happily to fix some snacks for the drinks.
Over on this side, Gu Anxi stretched lazily and called out to Bo Nianyao, "Bo Daddy, I’m going to bed."
Bo Nianyao lifted his eyes to look at his son and cleared his throat lightly. "Xichen, don’t be too harsh."
Bo Xichen let out a laugh. "How could I!"
But though he said he wouldn’t, once they got upstairs it was another story. Gu Anxi got a real beating from him. When he was done, she lay sprawled over his legs sulking, with two teardrops at the corner of her eyes that wouldn’t quite fall.
Bo Xichen reached out and pinched her little face. "Will you dare do it again?"
She lay there, crying pitifully. "I won’t dare anymore."
He chuckled, flipped her over like she was a little dumpling egg, and kissed her cold little face. "Alright, no more crying."
Gu Anxi refused to look at him; her eyes and nose were all red, and she really had been beaten pretty badly.
Besides, Little Uncle Bo hadn’t said a word before he just went straight in with his hands.
Her little face was buried against his waist as she muttered under her breath, "Hitting your wife really isn’t a good habit."
He smoothed her hair, lowered his head, and spoke in a hoarse voice. "I’m not going to spell out what you did wrong. You know it in your heart. Otherwise you wouldn’t have been so obedient and let me hit you, would you?"
She still didn’t speak, one arm wrapped around his lean waist, the other fiddling with his buttons. After a while, she suddenly let out a low chuckle. "Little Uncle, you’re jealous, aren’t you?"
He gave her a smack, his voice completely hoarse. "How could I!"
He didn’t admit it, but Gu Anxi knew, and he himself knew too. The two of them fell silent, and in that silence there was a faint trace of ambiguity. After that, everything shifted...
Downstairs, honest Chen Ming drank his little wine and started worrying. "Mr. Bo, is Anxi alright? Just now, from the way Professor Bo looked, is Anxi... going to get a beating?"
Bo Nianyao took a satisfied sip of his wine and smiled at Chen Ming. "Chen Ming, you’re not married yet, so you probably don’t fully understand the things between a husband and wife... I know you’ve had a brief relationship or two, but that really is just the tip of the iceberg. How could the way two people get along be that one-sided? Don’t worry about it, it’ll all be fine after tonight."
Chen Ming held his glass, and his heart gave a little tremor, making him inevitably think of someone...

On the other side, things at the Wang Family were not nearly so peaceful.
Wang Kefu had gotten himself into trouble, and Wanqing was dragged down along with him. Right now she felt like she’d been tied up and held over a fire.
When they got back, the Wang Family’s elders and juniors held a little family meeting. The main point was to have Wanqing talk to Qin Siyuan and use their old feelings to move him.
Wanqing naturally wasn’t willing, but she had no one on her side in this household. Only the Wang Family’s second sister-in-law was willing to say a few words for her.
The second sister-in-law laid into Gu Anxi for a good while, saying nothing more than that the child was too heartless and wouldn’t spare any feelings for her relatives. Listening to that made the old man and old lady feel thoroughly displeased. The old lady said, "What’s the use of saying all that? In the end, it’s still Kefu being stupid enough to go stir things up."
She lowered her voice and added, "Is Anxi the type you can just mess with?" From her vantage point two generations up, she usually found the girl contrary. Even though she was Ke Ru’s child, Ke Ru was warm, straightforward, and simple by nature, nothing like this kid, who either kept her mouth shut or, once she did open it, dug pits so deep you couldn’t fill them in.
The second sister-in-law of the Wang Family seized the moment to pick up the thread. "Old lady, don’t be too hard on Wanqing. They’re all just young girls. I’ve noticed Anxi’s thoughts run a bit deep. Maybe..."
She gave a little laugh before continuing, "I’ve seen that Wanqing and Xichen know each other. Maybe Anxi misunderstood something, so she deliberately made things hard for Wanqing. Anxi has a strong sense of possessiveness; that’s one possible reason too."
The atmosphere instantly turned cold.
Wanqing’s lips moved, and she found she couldn’t get a single word out.
The second sister-in-law still smiled as sweetly as a flower. "If that’s the reason, then we just treat the right illness. From now on, Wanqing can stay a bit farther away from Xichen, avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings, and then give Anxi a proper apology. As for Young Master Qin, with the old feelings between them, I believe he won’t refuse to give us that bit of face."
After she finished, the old lady nodded. "Xiufen, you’re getting more and more sharp. You really lay things out clearly; it all sounds quite reasonable."
Then she looked over at Wanqing, actually quite full of disdain. "You heard what your second sister-in-law said. Now I’ll knock some sense into you too. Xichen is not the same as Kefu. Yes, he’s good-looking and has a good family background, but someone like that is not for you to covet. He’s not like Kefu, stupid enough to abandon his wife and child for you and your belly. No matter what you’re thinking now, you’d better cut it off early."
Wanqing bit her lip, her eyes rimmed red. "I’m not."
The second sister-in-law stepped in to smooth things over. "If Wanqing says she’s not, then she probably isn’t."
The old lady still felt unhappy, thinking this was a bringer of bad luck at their door. The Wang Family’s relationship with Anxi had already been stretched tight, and now this—this woman had egged Kefu on to do something like that; who knew what would happen in the future.
After the Wang Family members left, Wanqing sat alone in the living room, crying.
The second sister-in-law stayed with her, handing her tissues, then said, "Wanqing, don’t blame me for laying things bare. I’m saving you here. Last time I saw you talking to Xichen, I already thought something felt off."
She patted the back of Wanqing’s hand. "Once you step through this door, you have to follow the rules. If these kinds of thoughts get found out by Big Brother, it’d be a disaster. He might not care how he himself carries on, but you... you can’t."
