Chapter 128: Let’s End This.
Chapter 128
He looked up to see Annie gathering more energy in both palms with a beautiful smile, that looked particularly devilish in this exact moment.
"Wow, you’re pretty fast on your feet handsome, I’ll give you that. But it’s a shame that you’ll have to die today.... But I really don’t want to kill someone as handsome as you."
"Then why not just let us go and I’ll give you my number," Alex grinned despite the burns on his arms. "I promise I’ll even text you in the morning."
"Hmm.. really tempting deal honey, but I’m afraid I can’t do that. The boss is counting on getting his woman tonight. And I really can’t afford to disappoint him."
"Shame."
[That’s my host. You’ve really improved your flirting skills. Alright I’ll leave you to handle the battle]
Immediately, two crimson orbs of fiery red energy that looked like half the size of the previous one began to take shape.
Alex watched them with a serious gaze. Just the previous one from earlier could have severely injured if not killed him, if he had not reacted on time.
Now two more, though half the size of the previous ones were about to head his way. He couldn’t dodge them so the only thing he could do now was activate his trump card.
Alex’s eyes then turned the familiar shade of light purple with faint distinct clock-like design as he activated the Eyes Of Chronos ability.
Suddenly, in his vision the world turned into a sepia toned landscape of frozen motion before his vision was thrusted forward, projecting scenes of the next 7.5 seconds into the future.
He saw exactly when Annie’s hands would move. He saw when the first orb would launch toward his chest and the other would head toward his legs before a third unexpected attack would hit the ground behind him to stop his retreat.
’Dammit! what a poisonous woman.’
He was also lucky to see the blast zone that will overlap together to leave only a thin safe zone, before the Eyes Of Chronos finally deactivated.
With that brief but very important knowledge he had just gained, Alex became prepared for the incoming attacks with a steady gaze in his green eyes.
The moment Annie launched the two attacks, before immediately following it up with the unsuspecting third attack, Alex made his move.
He first moved two steps to the right and jumped three meters high as the third ball of concentrated energy came flying behind him. Then he hurriedly pushed his speed to the limit and pivoted to the exact spot where he knew the blast range wouldn’t touch.
The ground heaved as the sound of a loud explosion was heard afterward, followed by a rapid surge of hot air reaching high temperature around the area before it finally receded.
As thick smoke and dust covered the aftermath began to simmer down, Alex finally emerged from the smoke, narrowly escaping the lethal radius of the attack by a hair’s breadth. freēwēbnovel.com
He moved quickly toward Annie in a zig zag formation with his eyes once more a familiar shade of light purple.
With the next knowledge he gained he was able to avoid the next set of attacks, especially one that was heading toward his face with a bit of difficulty, by narrowly ducking low.
After hurriedly sliding under another ball of energy moving at a terrifying speed, Alex finally closed the long gap between them.
For the first time since the battle began, Annie’s beautiful face was directly in front of him.
Alex could clearly see the smooth texture of the flawless skin on Annie’s face, and the way her seductive light blue eyes widened ever so slightly as he breached her dead zone.
Just as Alex tensed his muscles and gathered his strength into his right arm to strike her stomach and knock her out, Annie let out a strange smile, causing a bad feeling to immediately surge through Alex.
Before he could understand why, Annie suddenly grabbed the nearest person close to her. Number nineteen, the last surviving Grade C Assassin.
The man barely had time to react before Annie yanked him forward with relative ease and shoved him right in front of her body, using him as a living shield while simultaneously pushing herself backward into a swift retreat.
"W-what... Leader?!" His terrified scream echoed loudly.
In the exact same split second, her other delicate palm snapped forward, firing a dense ball of concentrated energy directly into the center of number nineteen’s back.
Her twisted logic was flawless. Since her highly destructive balls of energy required a physical target to trigger their explosions, she was purposefully using her own subordinate as the trigger.
She knew Alex was absurdly fast enough to dodge a direct attack even though he was only a vanguard Realm expert, the same as hers, but she wanted to force a localized unavoidable point blank explosion right in his face.
"What the hell?!" Alex cursed out loud, his eyes widening in shock.
Everything happened too fast.
He hadn’t anticipated such a ruthless move from this damn woman, mainly because when he had previously used the Eyes Of Chronos to see 7.5 seconds into the future, the unexpected move happened to be outside the ability’s time range, therefore he was caught off guard by the crazy trap.
His only option right now was too bear it and hope to survive. So instinctively crossing both of his scorched forearms into a tight X-shape in front of his body, Alex gritted his teeth so tightly that they almost threatened to crack.
At the same time the energy sphere collided with Number Nineteen.
BOOOOOOOOM!!!
The dark night lit up into a fiery color of crimson bright light. The poor Number Nineteen disappeared instantly. The unfortunate assassin didn’t even leave behind a complete corpse.
The explosion swallowed him whole before expanding outward like a miniature sun. A violent shockwave then erupted across the area.
Alex, first of all felt the blinding blistering heat hit him first, followed soon after by the force, causing intense pain to explode throughout his body.
The insane blast launched him backward like a broken ragdoll through the thick black smoke.
Alex slammed heavily into the scorched earth, tumbling violently across the dirt for nearly fifteen meters straight before finally grinding to a stop against a large rock nearby. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
For several seconds he simply lay there. Breathing heavily as the smell of burnt flesh filled the air.
Pain. Pure pain! Right now his both arms were burnt to the point that his bones were beginning to show. Parts of his shoulders looked scorched with major burn marks. The side of his chest had turned an angry shade of red. Even major portions of his skin had started blistering.
With whatever he could muster, Alex slowly pushed himself up. But the simple movement sent a fresh wave of agony surging through his battered body.
"That crazy woman..." He winced. "Sacrificing her subordinate without blinking just to save her thick behind and launch that damn attack! Once I catch her, I’ll make sure I copy her power as compensation for today."
Far away Annie calmly walked forward, her boot softly crunching against the ground.
Her expression remained composed. Maybe almost beautiful. Almost! Because right now Alex knew that this damn woman was absolutely insane.
"Honestly, I don’t know what I was thinking but I expected better from someone like you who was able to easily kill the undying fiend, even if the weakling was an Early Realm Awakened, he was still difficult to put down. Sigh. Killing you will hurt my heart just as much as it hurts you."
After saying that she raised one hand, causing a massive amount of crimson energy, comparable to the first attack she had launched at him, to immediately gather above her palm.
But this time the surrounding air distorted from the heat. Even the ground beneath her feet began to crack like it was made out of ice.
Alex’s face darkened. This attack was comparable to the very first attack she had launched at him in terms of size but at the same time it felt far different.
First of all, her face was growing pale, showing that she was putting a considerable amount of primordial essence into that attack, and second of all, the energy ball was turning both denser and a darker shade of crimson by the second.
Annie forced out a beautiful smile and said.
"You’ve entertained me enough. Let’s end this so that I can go get a good night’s rest."
Alex looked at her with a fearful gaze, causing Annie’s enchanting smile to grow an inch wider. Just as she was about to launch the ominous sphere filled with chaotic red energy toward him, Alex suddenly curled his lips into a mocking smirk.
Perfect, he had her exactly where he wanted her.
With his right hand which had been secretly clutching a rock the size of a child’s fist, the whole time, he tensed his pain filled muscles, channeling some strength into his arm, then he hurled the rock directly at the glowing sphere of energy in Annie’s palm.
The moment the rock left his hand with a whoosh, Annie’s light blue eyes shrank to the size of needles.
Her eyes widened in horror as she recognized what he was doing. Her own technique looked like it was going to be her undoing. The rock was going to trigger the contact detonation while the sphere was still resting right in her hands!
