Chapter 374: Wrong
If he should make a full shield, then his power would be spread, and with his calculations, it’s not something that will hold against Kaelthorn’s attack. After all, the Imprisonment he’s using is stronger on the inside than out.
So he made smaller shields and then warped them around different parts of his body. His neck, his chest, and part of his head.
All of these barely took two seconds, and yet, Vale felt a chill sweep through his body. Time seemed a frozen thing as a sense of danger made his spine tingle.
Kaelthorn wasn’t going for a frontal attack! He was already behind Vale!
He reacted as fast as he could, twisting his body away, but it did little as two lengths of bright light plunged into his body. Sharpness carved into his flesh, one cutting from the shoulder while another came from below and stuck into his spine bones as he finally managed to get away, but the damage had already been done.
Green light, tiny sharp light infused into his flesh and blood, began to corrode his bones and wipe him out from the inside.
Vale shuddered and fell to his knees, his eyes widened in astonishment as if he absolutely could not believe what was happening to him.
A vicious grin covered Kaelthorn’s face, and although most of the brightness had faded away from his limbs, there was still enough to cause more damage. "Without doing anything more, you’ll get destroyed by my sharpness. But I like finishing jobs."
Vale was angry, his face had darkened with a combination of anger and pain. The red light in his eyes dimmed and then flared as he shouted. "Demonlord’s Command!"
Instantly, his blood roared to life. A terrible aura of bloodlust and pure domination swept from him in a visible haze of red. It was so overpowering that Kaelthorn froze, his limbs refusing to work as if he was suddenly under the gaze of a powerful monster.
But Vale cared little for all of that as his blood worked to sweep the red energy from his body. In an instant, nothing was corroding his body anymore. And yet his wounds were inflicted by a top-tier technique of a Master Knight, and they refused to heal.
He had already lost control of his left arm due to the bones and muscles getting damaged. The rest of his body was also getting tangled and sluggish because his spine was hit.
Without hesitation, he sat down in a cross-legged position. His wounds would take a while to heal. He would need to stabilize himself first.
Kaelthorn looked at him in surprise. Uneasiness settled in him. That attack was his ultimate one, and even if it did not immediately cut him down, then it should have destroyed his body from the inside. Also, what’s this aura on him? An aura that made one want to prostrate themselves!
"You actually wiped away the power destroying you? How did you do that?"
Kaelthorn knew he had already lost a chance. He did not know how his power was wiped away, but with the remaining power, then he should be able to finish it. After all, Vale was terribly wounded already. freёwebnovel.com
The Great Mantis Dance is his ultimate technique, and yet it’s a technique that left him dry and useless after each use. Sometimes he had to use days to return to his normal self.
’...I’ll kill him. We can’t use someone this strong as a puppet. It’s better to kill him than to leave him behind. Even if I die, then at least I’ll take the threat with me. We never thought he’ll be this strong! He’s an Errant Knight!...’
The two watched each other wearily.
Kaelthorn knew which faction would eventually win the battle, but it would come with heavy losses. After all, the others are just as powerful, and they lost the element of surprise.
He began to walk toward Vale, his dark eyes filled with resolve.
Vale asked. "Why? The Company Captains will fall today. No matter what, you won’t win."
Kaelthorn smiled bitterly. "The outcome of this battle is already determined. Whether you win or I win doesn’t really matter. The Hinterlands is already the property of another, we are only here to sweep out the remnants and prepare the way."
"Tachibana," Vale said, and he watched Kaelthorn flinch.
Vale’s eyes narrowed. So that’s how they saw things. The Tachibana Clan. Of course he knew they were the ones behind it, but the information was given by Isolde, and he dared not believe in it heavily, but now he had confirmation. And now he knew Matsumoto didn’t just join the Tachibana, they’ve become like their dog!
This made Vale shiver somewhat. A group of six strong Master Knights becoming dogs to others....just like that? The Matsumoto should have at least twenty or more Master Knights, and yet they’ve become a tool used by the Tachibana to carve up the Hinterlands! They can’t even be bothered to do it by themselves!
Kaelthorn stopped walking. "You know about them? Oh, of course you do! Isolde told you! Of course she did."
His voice carried a bitterness that Vale didn’t understand. He raised his left hand, palm forward. "Before we kill each other, I would like to know what’s going on at least."
Kaelthorn looked at him strangely. "You don’t....ah! You don’t even know anything. You fool! The Hinterlands always have a Master. Your father would have told you all of this if you hadn’t killed him. After all, the Athrimir Clan knew more about this than all of us!"
His voice turned mocking. "After all, you guys are the guardians set up to look after the Hinterlands! You had the strongest Master Knights while everyone failed around!"
What?
Vale looked at him, speechless. "What the fuck are you talking about? Guardians of the Hinterlands? Just because my father doesn’t want war to tear apart the Hinterlands? Is this what you reduce him to?"
Vale was getting angry on behalf of his father. The man had involved himself in the Hinterlands matter, acting as peacemaker and warmaker to stop the different factions from fighting each other, and yet all he got was their ungrateful asses talking down on him!
If the man had not invested so much in others, then maybe he’d have had time for his family and not fallen into the trap of the Old Man!
Different emotions flashed in Vale. He knew his father was taken over by the Old Man, his emotions and mind bent and twisted, but even that did not make him feel better, but more angry and confused about everything.
He had mostly buried this, but Kaelthorn brought it all rushing back.
Kaelthorn now stared at him strangely, and it took a while for Vale to understand that he was staring at him with pity! "Ah....Vale Athrimir. You’ll be the only Athrimir to die without the guilt of your family. Not that your family cares, you fucking bastards!
"And you. You are the most ignorant fool of all! You even fell into Isolde’s hand. Do you even know what she is? Who she is?"
Vale blinked, then his eyes focused. "What is she? Who is she?"
Kaelthorn opened his mouth to speak when suddenly, he stiffened. The air around him warped and twisted before his head exploded! Just like that! As the space around there had simply compressed and shattered. Splattering blood, brain matter, and splintered bones.
Vale stared wide-eyed as the body fell with a thud, the green light he had gathered going dim. He could only stare at the body in shock because even he didn’t see the attack coming!
Something....is wrong. Is the Hollow Grave here already? Isn’t that just too soon? Shouldn’t they be late because according to the Company Captains’ plan, they will attack at night? The Hollow Grave should also come at night to use the chance created by the chaos to kidnap Vale. freeweɓnovel.cøm
And since the fight is happening now, they would be caught off guard and receive the message late, so they’ll come hurriedly and when they start fighting with those that remain, Vale would use that chance to escape with his men.
It was a shaky plan, but it was all he had, and it might even work. At most, he’ll have to fight some of the Hollow Grave. But no matter what, he had been certain that three forces would clash.
But now.....
"Isolde!" Vale shouted.
He knew she was around somewhere watching him, he could feel her gaze on him.
And before long, the space in front of him shimmered slightly and she appeared. She was in human form and held a small metal ball with enchantments etched on the surface. An artifact!
She gave him a curious look. "You think I’ve not made an escape in this madness you caused?"
Vale gave her a flat look. "Why did you kill him? You should give a reasonable answer now before I kill you."
Vale’s voice was shorn of everything except pure intent to kill.
