Chapter 123: Chapter 123: A Terrorist?
Neo turned to her and offered a nod.
"Do it. But keep the collateral damage to a minimum. The bystanders should not get hurt," he added.
"As you say, darling!"
Swoosh!
She turned into a shadow, then all of a sudden appeared directly before the Special Forces.
The squad leader, instantly on high alert, signaled to open fire.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Torrents of specialized bullets whistled through the night air, targeting Noir’s beautiful figure with merciless precision.
However, she remained perfectly calm. She simply waved her hand, and a shimmering dark barrier formed around her, blocking all the bullets with ease.
Then, she placed her right forefinger gently against her ruby-like lips.
"Mind of Shadow, Spirits of the Forgotten... Awaken, Zoten!" she chanted, and instantly, the surroundings turned deathly cold.
Alongside the creeping frost, the heavy scent of ancient demonic magic filled the air.
The squad of Metahumans, already on edge, tried to attack Noir, but suddenly found that their feet refused to move.
"What’s going on? Why can’t I move?"
"She must have done something!"
"Captain, do something!"
Just then, their own shadows, cast by the bright spotlights above, started to move on their own.
One by one, the shadows stretched and twisted, coalescing into a singular, massive shadow holding a giant scythe like a true God of Death.
"Ah, the human realm! It has been such a long time. My lady, is it you who summoned me?" the Shadow Demon asked, turning to Noir with a humble smile.
Noir exuded the absolute bearing of a true sovereign.
"I did, Zoten. Go, claim these human souls as a sacrifice!" she commanded coldly.
"Your will is absolute, My Lady," Zoten replied.
The massive Shadow Demon then raised its scythe high into the air. The blade was not forged from metal, but from pure, compressed darkness and the agonizing wails of condemned souls.
The seven white-suited Beyonders, the pride of the Federal Guards, frantically tried to push their cosmic energy to the absolute limit. The squad leader’s cybernetic eye glowed a blinding crimson as his muscles bulged against the invisible force binding him.
"Break! Break free!" the Senior Officer roared, blood leaking from his nose as he tried to force his body to move. But the shadow-bind was absolute.
"Kekeke..." Zoten let out a hollow laugh that chilled the blood of everyone in the room.
Then, with a single, fluid motion, the demon swung the massive scythe horizontally.
Swoosh!
There was no deafening explosion. There was no collateral damage, no shattered walls, and no flying debris, perfectly adhering to Neo’s indirect command.
Instead, a silent pitch-black crescent wave of energy passed effortlessly right through the bodies of the 7 elite Beyonders.
For a fraction of a second, time seemed to freeze.
Then, the glowing auras surrounding the high-tier Metahumans began to dim and instantly vanished.
Their white battle suits remained entirely completely undamaged, not even a single scratch marring the high-tech plating.
But, the vibrant light of life within their eyes was instantly snuffed out.
After all, Zoten had not cut their bodies, it had cleanly reaped their souls.
Thud. Thud. Thud.
One by one, the seven untouchable elites collapsed onto the marble floor like puppets whose strings had been abruptly severed.
Witnessing this horror, the remaining forces started trembling.
The Federal Guards standing by the doors lowered their weapons, their hands shaking so violently they dropped their rifles clattering to the ground.
Outside, the hovering combat drones ceased their targeting protocols.
Their AI systems unable to comprehend or calculate the threat level of the entity that had just bypassed all physical defenses.
The cowering politicians and business elites behind the energy shields covered their mouths, tears streaming down their pale faces.
No one dared to scream. No one dared to even breathe too loudly.
Zoten bowed deeply toward Noir, then dissolved inti the shadows.
"All done, darling!" Noir said as if she had done a trivial matter.
Neo was calm. He already knew she coukd take down Metahumans with ease.
"Zestia. Leon," Neo called out.
Leon blinked, snapping out of his deep shock. As a Type 6 Metahuman himself, he knew exactly how powerful that squad had been.
As such, seeing them erased in the blink of an eye without even a fight made his blood run cold.
He quickly nodded, gesturing for Zestia to follow.
Neo and his team decided to take the broken Marcus with them to interrogate him thoroughly.
Dragging the whimpering executive out to the streets, they boarded their unmarked anti-gravity car and shot into the neon-lit night sky. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Strangely, the combat drones and heavily armed aircraft did not give chase. The command centre controlling the blockade had likely realized that pursuing such a terrifying rogue entity would result in nothing but meaningless destruction.
However, high above the atmosphere, orbital military satellites and a microscopic tracking bug deployed in the sky relayed their exact coordinates back to the command center.
Inside the Counter-Terrorism Affairs Division, the atmosphere was tense.
Bang!
"This is unacceptable!"
Director Sterling slammed his fist down onto the reinforced glass of the central strategy table, cracking the surface.
The high-ranking officers and tactical analysts in the war room trembled.
"Two hundred of our finest Federal Guards, paralyzed by fear! Seven elite Type-5 Beyonders from the Special Forces, eradicated in less than a second without firing a single shot!" Sterling roared angrily.
"And now, this ’Neo Godson’ has abducted the Regional Director of the Byzon Company right in front of the entire planetary elite. We are the laughingstock of the Federation!"
"Sir, we have locked onto the target using out finest Tracking Bug, and the orbital satellites are also following their anti-gravity car’s heat signature. They cannot escape."
Director Sterling finally smiled.
"Excellent job Mark! Now, deploy the Mecha Riders and prepare the Nuclear Blaster. Neo Godson is a terrorist, and he needs to be exterminated without warning."
"But sir, there is a complaint stating that his mother and sister were kidnapped by an unknown organization. Why not look into that case as well?" a young woman suggested carefully. "I do not think it is wise for us to provoke a talented Beyonder like him."
She gradually shrank back, her shoulders slumping as she felt the heavy, increasing weight of the room’s attention suddenly turning toward her.
The Director grew so enraged that the veins on his forehead visibly bulged.
"Emma, you are suspended for one month!"
"What? Why, sir?" Emma asked in a panic.
"Because you spoke out of turn. That is all," Sterling stated ruthlessly. "We are slaves, and slaves cannot tell their masters what to do."
