Chapter 406: Chapter 158: Bloodbath (Part 2)

As she spoke her last words, Mrs. Shi’s face twisted into a snarl. She was furious and terrified. More importantly, a sharp, twisting pain shot through her stomach. Recalling the duo’s recent secret plotting, Mrs. Shi reasonably suspected that the roast goose she’d eaten today had also been laced with arsenic.

Arsenic could be fatal. At the thought, Mrs. Shi’s legs went weak.

She raised the rolling pin over her head, about to bring it down hard. But in truth, with the pain in her stomach, just maintaining her ferocious expression took all her strength.

But Chen Wanyue didn’t know this. The old hag had beaten her so much she was traumatized. Seeing the rolling pin coming straight for her head, she let out a terrified scream, lifted the elm stool in her hands, and frantically smashed it toward Mrs. Shi.

Mrs. Shi seemed to be begging for mercy, seemed to be screaming in agony, but Chen Wanyue heard none of it. She seemed possessed, crazily bringing the stool down on Mrs. Shi again and again.

Mrs. Shi collapsed to the ground. Next to her was the peddler.

Chen Wanyue saw him, and all her grievances, new and old, surged up at once. She raised the stool and viciously smashed it down on his head.

"Ah!"

"Ah!"

The first scream came from the peddler. The second one was from him as well.

The peddler fainted, then was jolted awake by the pain. As he came to, he saw the stool coming at his face again. He tried to dodge but couldn’t, so he took the second blow right to the head.

Before the third blow could land, the pain caused him to pass out once more.

And the third blow was delivered by the fool, who had gotten out of bed.

The fool grabbed the stool from Chen Wanyue’s hands. Her heart hammered in her chest; she thought he was there to ruin things.

But the fool, woken by the noise, simply frowned. He thought she was playing a fun game, so he copied her, bringing the stool down with vicious force.

The unconscious peddler was once again smashed awake.

This time, his pupils were dilated, and his limbs were twitching. He was conscious for only a moment before another blow knocked him out again.

The fool kept bashing the peddler as if it were a delightful game. Chen Wanyue licked her dry lips, stopped the fool, and directed him, "Don’t just hit that one, hit this one too. She hasn’t bled enough to wash my hands with. You hit her a couple of times."

The fool grinned, drool dripping from the corner of his mouth.

Spurred on by Chen Wanyue’s eager encouragement, he viciously smashed the stool onto Mrs. Shi’s head.

Mrs. Shi screamed herself awake to see her own son’s face before her, twisted and demonic like a soul-reaping messenger from hell.

She also saw the stool in his hands and cried out to stop him. But before the words could leave her mouth, before she could raise her arms, the stool came crashing down again.

Again and again, blow after blow. In the blink of an eye, he’d struck her three or four times.

The fool laughed heartily, thinking this game was incredibly fun.

Chen Wanyue also thought it was incredibly fun and let out a cathartic, booming laugh.

"That’s a good hit! A real good hit!"

Her voice drew the fool’s attention. As if seeing her for the first time, he turned toward her, stool in hand.

Chen Wanyue’s laughter died in her throat.

She slowly stood up and backed away, a stiff, placating smile on her face.

"Guan’er, it’s me, your wife. You can’t hit me. I’m going to have your babies."

Shi Guan’er was the fool’s name. He didn’t understand anything about having babies; he just thought the game he’d been playing was fun. So he raised the stool and viciously smashed it toward Chen Wanyue.

Chen Wanyue screamed as blood splattered all over her head and face.

Seeing the crimson on her hands, a shriek like a night owl tore from her throat. "Help! Help me! Murder!"

The fool frowned at her. Chen Wanyue was terrified. Heart pounding with fear, she watched him raise his arms again and hastily began to tear at her own clothes.

"Guan’er, put the stool down. Let’s go ’ride the horse.’ Don’t you love ’riding the horse’?"

Shi Guan’er did like "riding the horse." An image of her pale, naked body flashed through his mind, and he grew even more excited.

But his raised hand wouldn’t obey him, and he smashed it down on her again.

Chen Wanyue collapsed to the floor, her head and face covered in blood. Her clothes were torn open, revealing the pale skin beneath. Shi Guan’er pounced on her excitedly, like a starving wolf savagely devouring the food before it.

All of this seemed to take a long time, but in reality, it happened in the span of a single moment.

By the time Mr. Shi had called the neighbors for help and they all pushed open the door, they found the room awash in blood.

Blood covered the floor, turning the entire ground into a river of red.

And in the middle of it all, a savage beast with crimson eyes was carrying out its brutal assault.

"Ah! Someone’s been killed!"
