Chapter 826: Chapter 429: Afraid My Baby Is Too Hungry, Can’t Feed Her Enough (2)
Taking advantage of the secretary’s moment of confusion, Evelyn gently took her hand: "I’ll leave it to you then. If these young girls are just having fun, that’s fine, but I’m afraid they have bad intentions, wanting to ruin someone’s marriage. Please keep an eye out for me. Naturally, I can’t tell Joshua about this. We’ll have many good days ahead, right?"
Evelyn implied that they could cooperate for a long time; after all, without significant mistakes, Joshua wouldn’t change people easily, and after she had her child, she’d rightfully become Madam Hughes. If they formed an alliance, one could get the benefits they deserved, and the other could get firsthand information about her husband’s whereabouts and actions, fulfilling mutual needs.
Clutching the brooch and card tightly, the secretary watched Evelyn, clad in a luxurious fur cape, slowly enter the elevator. She smiled lightly at her as she left, but the smile seemed full of hidden meanings......
In the office, Joshua looked at the documents brought to him, but his mind was on the person still sleeping soundly under the soft quilt. She hadn’t woken up just now; when he went in to see her, her breathing was even, and she slept very peacefully.
He smiled bitterly; he was now like a naive young man of eighteen or nineteen, completely without self-control. No matter how much he looked at her, he never felt tired of it. His heart was entirely captivated by her, rising and falling with her every breath.
She was becoming less guarded and more reliant on him. He was ecstatic about this change, knowing how rare it was to gain such wholehearted, unconditional trust.
Only he understood this, so he cherished it even more and worried more about losing it. He wanted to keep her in his world, not remembering or recalling anything. She was living happily now, Joshua thought selfishly, believing this was the best for her. He exhausted all his efforts just to let her blossom under his care like a vibrant flower......
Having slept comfortably, Avery Jane hazily opened her eyes. No, this wasn’t her big bed at home, how distressing, she lamented quietly in her heart.
She recalled lunch today, chatting idly with the girls while organizing materials, and then receiving a call. He said over the phone that he had a nice gift for her and wanted her upstairs immediately. Hearing his cheerful voice, she quietly sneaked upstairs. His image in a plain white shirt today was unbearably charming, causing her to think about him all morning.
He was already waiting by the elevator. As soon as she stepped out, he pulled her into the office’s lounge. Opening the small bottle in his hand, the scent slowly diffused, light yet rich and intense, a peculiar and enticing fragrance. His deep gaze confused her until he stripped her clothes, laying her on the bed to enjoy a massage, a pure pleasure and comfort that eventually lulled her to sleep.
The warm breeze gently blew in the room. Avery quickly got out of bed, found her clothes, and dressed rapidly. Glancing at the time, it was almost five o’clock. She had slept for two hours—a pattern of getting inadequate sleep lately. At this rate, she figured she might lose a few years off her life, worn out by his nightly antics.
The lounge door quietly opened, an enticing curve on Joshua’s lips. Sneakily, the person behind approached, slender, soft arms circling his broad shoulders: "Why didn’t you wake me, letting me sleep so long?"
Her sweet, gentle voice, with a hint of teasing blame, almost melted his bones. Wasn’t this her true nature? Was she also this playful with Lucas Yates, as it all seemed so natural as if she’d done it countless times? Intense jealousy almost overwhelmed him.
"You’re so lazy yourself, how can you blame me?" Joshua pulled her forward onto his lap, the well-rested girl exuding an enticing fragrance like a blossoming flower nourished by rain and dew......
With her arms around his neck, she lowered her head shyly, saying, "It’s all your fault; if it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be so sleepy."
With her in his arms, Joshua’s heart surged with tenderness; he wanted to devour her bit by bit, but he couldn’t. He merely held her, gently comforting. Avery looked up at his extremely handsome features, annoyed, she lightly bit his chin: "This can’t go on in the future." No more wild nights; it was too crazy.
Joshua chuckled wickedly, a sudden scarlet hue flashing from his cool eyes, suppressing her lips with a commanding desire. His magnetic voice hushed and hoarse: "I’m afraid my darling might be too hungry, not full enough, so I must make sure you have enough....." Her gentle complaint only brought his teasing, instantly making Avery blush and her heart race.
"I’m not talking to you anymore. I need to hurry down; I don’t even know how to explain myself to them." After disappearing for the entire afternoon, likely facing an inquisitive interrogation from them, besides, she still carried a faint yet undeniably noticeable scent of roses on her, a real headache.
"I’ve already had your department supervisor sign off; you’re considered out handling official business for the day; no one will check on you." Stealing a kiss on her cheek, Joshua held two more documents; once completed, he could leave. Today, she slept so soundly; he could take her to the outskirts for some wild game, to relax. He always found ways to keep her life full and enriching, making her too busy to think about the past.....
