Chapter 8: Younger Brother
"Amorpheus Saint..." Cole muttered in a low voice as a series of dark memories flashed through his head. As the top-tier certified trash of the Saint Family, he had multiple haters, but their hatred was only verbal. The only one who had taken things to the extreme was this cousin of his, Amorpheus, the son of the vice head of the Saint Family.
For even the slightest second, the simple and gentle smile did not fade from Amorpheus’s face. He looked like the pure epitome of kindness as he slowly walked toward Cole. His simple actions attracted the eyes of everyone present in the hall.
Holy shit, isn’t that Young Master Amorpheus? Damn, he is so handsome. Just one look and my heart is stuck...
A couple of young Saint Family members muttered with awe in their eyes. It didn’t matter whether it was male or female, everyone present felt their heartbeat accelerate.
Amorpheus was completely opposite of Cole. He was handsome, talented, and respected by all.
There were even voices in the family that wanted him to be the next heir of the Saint Family in place of Cole, and with each passing day, these voices were getting louder and louder.
In just a few moments, the news of Amorpheus’s arrival spread throughout the library. Everyone rushed out to catch a glimpse of the talented young master.
In no time, a crowd of people surrounded the two of them. No matter how crowded they became, they maintained a respectful distance from the two young masters, waiting from a distance.
Amorpheus looked at the surrounding crowd for a very brief moment. A subtle hint of annoyance flashed through his eyes. He then looked at the crowd with a sweet smile and slowly said, "Everyone, could you please give us both a moment alone? I have some important matters to discuss."
Immediately, the crowd responded.
As you wish, Young Master...
It would be our honor!
Please forgive us for disturbing you, Young Master...
In no time, all the crowd surrounding them dispersed.
Cole looked at Amorpheus with an indifferent gaze and asked, "What do you want?"
His question was simple and clear. He had already gathered the information he needed, and there was no time to waste.
"As rude as ever, big brother. Here I come rushing to ask how you are doing..."
Hearing those words, Cole’s eyes narrowed to slits.
What do you mean by what am I doing? What could even happen to me?
By the end of his sentence, Cole paused for a brief moment, when his gaze suddenly sharpened.
Or could it be you want something to happen to me?
Silence.
Following Cole’s words, a suffocating silence fell over the hall. Then suddenly Amorpheus laughed out loud.
Of course, every moment I wish something bad to happen to you.
Not just that — even now I have four assassins watching your every move. One step outside the family premises, and watch your head roll to the ground.
Is this what you think of me, big brother? If this was the case, do you think you would have been able to live for so long?
Amorpheus’s face was dead serious. His eyes were sharp as blades, showing maturity and shrewdness that was not common among people of the same age. Just one look, and anyone could tell this young man was extraordinary, like a diamond that grew harder and more precise through relentless pressure.
Forget about all these things. Now let me ask something important. It’s already been more than a week since Uncle Theo was supposed to return. Do you think...
Those words made a chill run down Cole’s spine. He had a very bad feeling in his heart. He knew Amorpheus better than the palm of his own hand; he would not say anything for no reason.
Could it be something happened to the family head...?
As this possibility flashed through his head, Cole’s face darkened in real time.
...
Hah! He is completely clueless about Uncle’s situation... That is to be expected. There is no way a man like Theo Saint would leave something so precious with a clown like Leo... If Cole doesn’t have it, and Uncle Theo neither, then where did it go...?
Amorpheus’s thoughts surged like lightning, analyzing every possible clue.
Just as he was thinking, suddenly his expression changed. His gaze moved toward the simply looking ring on his index finger. Thin strands of smoke were coming out of the ring, rising slowly upward.
He looked at Cole and hurriedly said, "Cousin, you take care of yourself. I have something more important to do. We will continue this conversation later."
With those words, he didn’t linger for long and hurriedly left, his steps light as feathers, not letting his emotions affect his body language.
Cole watched him leave with a puzzled look on his face. It was only when Amorpheus completely disappeared from view that he came out of his dazed state and muttered under his breath:
Saint, what is the probability that the recent attack that the original Cole suffered had something to do with this Amorpheus Saint?
[Starting a new task, processing the request!]
[Warning! A task is already running in the background. The process might take some time...]
[Warning! There is not enough data about the assessment target. Please observe the target closely for an accurate result.]
[Gathering clues, calculating changes in body language, studying behavior, language...]
[No clues found.]
Multiple windows appeared in front of his vision one after another, but none gave him the possibility that he was looking for.
Just as Cole was about to give up, suddenly something changed.
[Minor change in facial expression detected. Replaying the scene.]
Suddenly, the small windows in Cole’s vision shifted, turning into a live-action scene of Amorpheus speaking, but this time at a very slow speed — a thousand times slower.
For a moment, the carefree smile on Amorpheus’s face disappeared, replaced by the cold and calculated smile of a predator.
Indeed, just as I thought...
Cole was not surprised. It was something he had already been expecting. The guy was two-faced, and might be involved in the recent attack as well.
