Chapter 14: Public enemy

"There is definitely something fishy going on..."

Compared to how he acted furiously on the outside, Cole’s thoughts were surging at lightning speed. From the people around him, he sensed a calculated attack against him.

Someone was definitely pulling strings from behind. Otherwise, the crowd would not have turned against him so quickly.

This was something Cole knew well. Although his reputation in the Saint Family was terrible, the family members still respected his father, Theo Saint. As such, they normally would not dare do anything to him.

So even if he felt nothing for the original Cole’s supposed mother, he still had to continue pretending. With a furious face, he shouted, "Get my mother’s name out of your damn mouth!"

Saying this, he charged forward. After ten percent fusion with the Lightning Worm bloodline, his physical strength had increased by leaps and bounds. The distance between him and the middle-aged man was significant, but even then, in the blink of an eye, Cole was directly in front of him. The middle-aged man barely had time to react before he suddenly felt his vision spin, and a sense of wetness filled his mouth.

By the time the middle-aged man landed on the ground, the crowd of people suffering and watching with gloating expressions on their faces finally caught up, their eyes instantly turning furious.

"How dare this trash son attack his elders!"

"Someone call the guards and teach him a lesson!"

Those words had barely left their mouths when Saint Family guards dressed in full-body armor came rushing out and quickly separated Cole from the middle-aged man.

Cole had a ferocious look in his eyes as he scanned the crowd, seemingly trying to engrave the face of every person present into his memory.

Maybe it was the aura of violence surrounding Cole or something else, but whenever his gaze landed on them, the crowd instantly backed away.

"If in the future I hear any of you trash-talking my mother, your fate will be the same. Don’t think I am the same weak young master of the Saint Family. If any of you dare cross the limits, be prepared to face the consequences."

As someone coming from another world, Cole wanted to maintain a low profile until he better adapted to this one. But the constant bullying and trash talk were starting to get on his nerves.

He needed to set an example so these people would not dare behave in this manner again in the future.

"Young master, are you okay?"

Trisha came running from the back, her expression pale and seemingly worried that Cole might have injured himself.

She could tell the middle-aged man was at least at the late-stage Nascent Trainee Realm, yet the young master had been able to defeat him in one punch.

Just as she was thinking, a possibility popped into her head.

Don’t tell me he used those forbidden potions again...

There were various kinds of potions that could allow one to gain incredible strength for a short amount of time, but this strength came at the incredible cost of lifespan and vitality.

Thinking about this possibility, her panic deepened even further.

Still, for the time being, Trisha pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind and tried her best to calm Cole down.

"Young master, please don’t harm yourself over these lowly people."

"Someone like him is not worth hurting yourself for."

By this time, the crowd of people attracted by the commotion had grown larger and larger. There were now more than a hundred people watching from the sidelines. Some of them had no idea what was going on at first, but after asking around, they soon got a full idea of what had happened.

"Young Master threatened to kill old Janc and his family..."

"When he refused to kneel, Cole and his servants ganged up on him and beat him..."

"What? He really did this? How dare he..."

The crowd grew furious, with righteous indignation on their faces.

While Cole belonged to the higher upper echelons of the Saint Family, the middle-aged man was just like them. If Cole could brutally beat the middle-aged man for no reason, then he could do the same to them and even to their families.

In just a matter of minutes, the eyes of everyone present turned hostile.

Cole felt this change, and his heart grew alert.

The suffering he had sensed in his heart deepened.

There was definitely someone pulling the strings from the back, but who?

Just as he was thinking, the face of an arrogant young man flashed through his mind.

Amorpheus...

His arrogant cousin was the most likely culprit, but the next moment Cole shook his head. There was no reason for Amorpheus to go this far. His uncle would never allow this.

Moreover, the position of heir that he had always wanted was already his, so there was no reason for him to do this.

Then who is it? What would they gain by turning the entire family against me? Hmm... to force me to leave the Saint Family?

Multiple possibilities flashed through his head, but none could explain the situation correctly.

While he was lost in thought, Trisha quickly dragged him out of the limelight, taking him back to his small lab.

Once inside, Trisha questioned him with a stern expression on her face.

"Young master, be honest... did you take those forbidden potions again?"

What the hell...

Cole looked at her with a dumbfounded expression. However, upon closer inspection, he realized she was being serious.

Before he opened his mouth to speak, he went through his memories to identify what those so-called forbidden potions were that she was talking about.

He soon realized what she meant, and her concern made sense.

However, instead of feeling worried, his eyes brightened slightly. He had been worried about how to explain the sudden surge in strength... and now he did not have to worry.

Thousands of thoughts surged through his head, but he did not say anything. Sometimes staying silent was the same as confirming.

Seeing him react like this, Trisha let out a sigh.

"Young master, when will you learn..."

At some point, Trisha’s aura had completely transformed. She no longer looked like a loyal servant, but rather like a concerned elder sister worried about her younger sibling’s safety.

Cole did not interrupt her, but simply listened silently, waiting for the storm to pass.

All this time, the only person who truly cared about him in this world was this young woman, who was willing to help him in any way she could. He did not want to disappoint her by pointlessly arguing.

One hour passed, but Trisha showed no sign of stopping. In the end, Cole’s ears started to hurt. He shook his head and started walking away.

Trisha noticed this and shouted, "Young master, I am not finished! Where are you going?!"

"I am going out to catch a breath."
