Chapter 28: 28: Noble Law
Adrian did not answer right away.
He looked at Lucard with wide eyes, and for the first time since Jenny had seen him, the proud young lord of House Ravencroft looked panicked. He had not even seen when Lucard came. One moment Tina was standing in front of Jenny. The next moment, Tina had been slapped so hard that she flew into a tree. Adrian did not even have time to react.
That scared him.
Adrian was a mage. He was not a weak one among young nobles. He had mana, spells, and the Ravencroft family’s bloodline. But unlike many mages, he had also trained his body. His reaction speed and physical movement were comparable to a Rank One knight. Because of that, he had always felt proud. He believed that even if a swordsman came close, he could still react fast enough to protect himself.
But Lucard had appeared and slapped Tina before he could even move his fingers.
That meant Lucard was faster than him.
Or worse, Lucard was someone he could not read.
Adrian swallowed without noticing it.
Lucard ignored him for a moment and looked at Jenny.
Jenny was still holding her cheek. Her eyes were full of water, and the red mark on her face had already started to swell. She was trying not to cry. She was trying to stand straight. She was trying to remain Jenny Vardros, the proud daughter of a baron family, even after being humiliated in front of her former fiancé and his lover.
Seeing her like that made Lucard’s chest feel strange.
He definitely did not care about them.
That was what he told himself.
Jenny was not his real sister. Jake was not his real brother. House Vardros was not his real family. He was the Blood God Lucard, a being who had ruled over blood, fought gods, and died in Null. These mortal attachments should have meant nothing to him.
But when he saw Jenny’s watery eyes, sadness and anger rose inside him at the same time. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
It was annoying. It was uncomfortable. It was not his emotion, or at least he did not want to admit it was his emotion.
"This must be because of the heart curse," Lucard thought coldly. "That dead brat is still making noise inside this body."
Tina was still on the ground near the tree, but her mouth had recovered faster than her balance. She screamed while holding her swollen cheek.
"Adrian. What are you doing? Kill him. Kill that bastard right now."
Adrian’s face twitched.
Tina pointed at Lucard and shouted even louder, "If you are a man, then kill him. What are you waiting for? He slapped me in front of you. He slapped Tina Karswell. Are you going to stand there like a scared servant?"
Adrian’s pride could not take that.
Fear was still in his heart, but Tina’s words stabbed his ego. Jenny was watching. Jake was watching. Peter was watching. Even garden servants hiding far away were watching. If he did nothing after Lucard slapped Tina in his own family garden, then his name would become a joke.
Adrian raised his hand.
Black gray mana gathered around his fingers.
"Lucard Vardros," Adrian said with anger in his voice. "You touched someone you should not have touched."
Lucard looked at him. "I know. My hand feels insulted."
Adrian’s face darkened. He pushed his palm forward.
A bone white spear formed from mana and shot toward Lucard. The spell was fast. It was made from Ravencroft death magic, and the spear carried a cold feeling that could weaken flesh if it touched the body. Peter immediately moved in front of Jenny and Jake.
"Stay behind me," Peter said.
Lucard did not need him to say that, but he did not stop him either.
The bone spear came close.
Lucard stepped to the side.
The spear passed beside him and struck the stone path behind him. The stone cracked, and cold white smoke rose from the broken place.
Adrian’s eyes widened. Lucard had dodged too easily.
He raised both hands and created three more bone spears.
Lucard moved before the spells were fully released.
He crossed the distance between them like a shadow. Adrian tried to step back, but Lucard was already in front of him. Lucard grabbed Adrian’s wrist and twisted it.
His bone cracked. Adrian screamed.
The bone spears shattered in the air before they could fly.
Lucard pulled him forward and punched him in the stomach. The punch was not full strength, but it was enough to fold Adrian’s body. Air rushed out of his mouth. His eyes bulged. Before he could fall, Lucard grabbed his collar and slapped him across the face.
Paak!
Adrian’s head turned to the side.
Lucard slapped him again from the other side.
Paak!
Adrian stumbled, but Lucard held his collar and did not let him fall.
"You like noble pride," Lucard said. "Then stand properly while I remove it."
Paak!
Another slap landed.
Adrian’s cheek swelled. Blood came from the corner of his mouth. He tried to gather mana again, but Lucard placed one hand over his chest and pressed lightly. Adrian felt his blood move strangely inside his body. It did not leave him, but it trembled as if it wanted to obey Lucard more than it obeyed its owner.
Adrian froze.
"What are you?"
Lucard smiled coldly. "The person you should not have insulted."
Tina screamed again and rushed toward Lucard from the side. She had pulled a small magic dagger from her sleeve. The blade had green poison on it. Her face was swollen, but her anger was larger than her pain.
"You lowborn dog."
Lucard did not even turn fully.
He caught her wrist before the dagger reached him.
Tina’s eyes widened.
Lucard looked at the dagger, then at her.
"Poison. Good. At least your personality matches your weapon."
He squeezed her wrist.
Tina screamed and dropped the dagger.
Lucard pulled her forward and slapped her again. freёwebnovel.com
