Chapter 479: Chapter 71 - Behind A Reason
My father seemed to be thinking about something that made me look strange in his eyes.
That always happens...
Especially when it comes to my relationship with a woman, furthermore, this woman is a adult woman with a noble title above that of a Marquess.
"I don’t know the details, but something must have happened to Duchess Kaori that made her willing to share important information with you, right?" said my father, who had resigned himself to what I had done to Duchess Kaori.
"What are you talking about, Rom-chan? Of course... ’something’ must have happened to Duchess Kaori if she gave Lily important information and gave permission to those who worship the Goddess of Destruction. Information about the sect that worships the Goddess of Destruction is being targeted by the royal family and the followers of the Goddess Aurora, you know..." My mother said while taking a black paper report containing A1 information.
The black report paper was imbued with a magical energy that slowly broke the seal, which my mother alone knew how to open, without any special tools like those used to seal it.
The black report paper slowly turned into a dull white, filled with important information in my handwriting. There was some additional information from Madam Estelle, but most of it was in my handwriting as someone directly involved with Duchess Kaori.
The contents of the report weren’t particularly important, just the main points of what had happened in Duchess Kaori’s old castle town, an information about the old castle town becoming the Goddess of Destruction’s sacred territory and the newly born monster offspring that were used as currency for the heretical cult’s business was all conveyed implicitly through the key points.
I’m not very good at explaining things in paper reports, so I just organize the important information into a few points and summarize them into a short report that fits on one sheet of paper.
After the black report paper returned to its original form, my mother began to read the report I had written with a sharp look in her eyes.
The atmosphere in my mother’s underground study suddenly became silent, with only the sound of long breaths coming from my mother’s mouth, while my father enjoyed this free time patiently.
"Rom-chan, this is really interesting..."
"This shameless and unethical Duchess has been moving freely using whatever means she has to get something."
"Whether it was luck or some good deed she had done, her small old castle town had turned into the sacred territory of the Goddess of Destruction," my mother said as she threw away the report she had been reading to my father.
Flipppp...
Throwing the report paper containing my important points and some information written by Madam Estelle, my father immediately grab that paper report to read the report with his eyes moving quickly to the right and left.
A speed-reading technique my father often uses to quickly get the latest information.
At first glance, it looks like he’s just moving his eyes from side to side. But he’s actually reading the report he’s holding in his hands.
"Even for a Duchess who has condemned the world and dismissed the Goddess’s miracles as mere nonsense, she has gained access to the sacred domain of the Goddess of Destruction, who is everyone’s enemy?" my father asked, looking at me with a questioning look in his eyes.
I guess...
This is a good time to step in on my Mother and father conversation, so I can clear up some information that they both seem to have misunderstood.
I understand that my parents were shocked by the news that Duchess Kaori’s old castle town had been transformed into the Goddess of Destruction’s sacred territory. However, all of this had its cause and effect, stemming from an action taken by Duchess Kaori.
"I was surprised too, Rom-chan..." my mother replied with a small sigh and looked at me with eyes filled with various questions.
My father and mother...
In moments like these, they were too united to look at me with questioning eyes and assume that I had the answers they were waiting for.
Kirraa...
Kiiirraa...
Ugh! My parents did this to me on purpose.
The look in their eyes seemed to want to know the origin of this.
Mio, who standing beside me, was also staring at me with a curious look filled with stars. Three figures who were curious about the answer to this intriguing question.
I already knew this would happen, but I still felt uneasy after what I had predicted actually happened before my eyes.
I took a deep breath and tried to look relaxed to explain how this happened.
"It all started when Duchess Kaori’s territory was visited by the followers of the real Goddess of Destruction, not the fake ones like the heretical sects... who were being hunted by the royal family and the followers of the Goddess Aurora," I said while looking for a suitable starting point to explain it to Mio and my parents.
"At first, the followers of the Goddess of Destruction helped Duchess Kaori fight back against the plant monsters that were invading Duchess Kaori’s territory and provided defense assistance to the old castle town... which somehow became Duchess Kaori’s main city."
"With such a great contribution, the followers of the Goddess of Destruction gained great trust from the Duchess, so they were allowed to build the Shrine of the Goddess of Destruction, and that was the beginning of the problem..." I slightly relaxed the portion of my story that explained the beginning of the problem.
My father suddenly took out a small bottle from his pocket and opened the cap before asking me, "Let me guess... someone took advantage of that opportunity to profit by using Duchess Kaori’s name, right?"
"Yes, such a thing does exist. But I don’t know what benefits he could gain while Duchess Kaori’s domain is struggling to deal with the plant monster invasion," I replied in response to my father’s question.
Gluupp...
Gluuuupp...
My father drank from the small bottle he was holding, from the smell that slipped out and wafted into my nose; it was a small bottle containing wine.
After taking a few sips and closing it, my father smiled at me as if he saw all the possibilities.
"I don’t want to be presumptuous. However... they’re building the Shrine of the Goddess of Destruction, right?" my father said, leaning back in the chair he was sitting in.
"Y-Yes..." I answered in a soft tone and tried to understand what my father was thinking.
"There are several possibilities, one of which is an attempt to steal building materials or take donations from the followers of the Goddess of Destruction. I don’t know the real answer, because it depends on the morals of the perpetrator."
"I think something like that has already happened. That person has also received divine punishment from the Goddess of Destruction. Whether he will repent or be furious... what is certain is... he can no longer do such things within the sacred territory of the Goddess of Destruction."
"Yes, it’s natural that he won’t be able to do that again. In the sacred territory of the Goddess Aurora, it’s the same... There are divine laws that serve as a watchdog and weigh all the sins that have been committed for everyone, who dare to enter the sacred territories of the Goddess."
My father’s answer seemed reasonable, given his ignorance of the truth about what was happening in the Goddess Aurora’s sacred domain. Rather than being the Goddess Aurora’s sacred domain, it was merely a sacred domain guarded by spirits who had formed contracts with fake Saintesses.
I don’t want to make my father doubt his belief in the Goddess Aurora, so I will refrain from telling him about this.
Srrusshh...
My shoulder suddenly felt a touch coming from Mio’s hand, who, for some reason, looked sullen about something.
"Lily-sama..."
"So this is what Lily-sama mentioned for my own good in the previous conversation?" Mio asked while looking at me with pouting lips.
Mio seemed to have understood the meaning of our previous talks. She, who hated everything related to magic, would definitely hate a place filled with the divine magic of a Goddess.
"Hahaaa..." I laughed wryly after seeing Mio pouting like that.
"That did happen, Mio."
"The decision of a Goddess to make a sacred territories cannot be refused by a mortal, like us."
I tried to calm Mio, who had realized some things.
"Does Lily-sama have any plans to visit the Goddess of Destruction’s shrine in the future?" Mio asked in a low voice, her eyes eager for my honest answer.
"As the Monarch of Holy Destruction, who has been directly appointed by the Goddess of Destruction. Then the answer is yes, Mio," I replied in a soft tone and glanced at Mio.
I didn’t expect Mio to accept my answer with such an open heart. She hated magic, and I still training her to get used to living around it.
But getting used to it and forcing herself to get used around magic, those are two different things.
I also don’t want to force Mio to do something she hates and pretend to like it.
"I will not force you to come with me when I visit the sacred territory of the Goddess of Destruction."
"So just relax, Mio..."
With the gentleness of my voice, trying to calm Mio, I stroked her long black hair and pinched her cheeks gently.
Nyyuuttt...
Nyyuutt...
The gentle pinch pulled Mio’s cheeks, who was pouting.
"Humpphh..."
"I-If that’s what will happen in the future..."
"I-I just need to get used to feels magic... just like Lily-sama is doing to combine sword techniques with magic attack techniques, right?" Mio said while holding back my pinch on her soft cheek.
