Chapter 204: Chapter 204: Please Don’t Leave Me
He leaned down slightly, his eyes fixed on Adrian’s sleeping face. "Baby..." he murmured. "What if we just leave it in the past?"
Adrian slept far longer than Matteo expected.
Matteo waited up, hoping his boyfriend would wake for dinner, but Adrian remained fast asleep, sleeping right through the evening.
It wasn’t until the dead of night, at 2:16 a.m., that Adrian finally stirred.
Matteo, who had only managed to fall asleep an hour earlier, woke instantly to the sound of shifting sheets.
Adrian quietly climbed out of bed and walked over to his usual spot by the window, staring out at the dark grounds.
He picked up his phone and checked a message from Maya. The two of them had been secretly coordinating a plan behind Matteo’s back.
Adrian remained by the window for hours.
Matteo lay perfectly still in the darkness, watching him in silence and wondering what was going through his mind.
Around 5:00 a.m., Adrian finally stood up and walked back over to the mattress.
Instead of heading to his own side, he came around to Matteo’s.
Matteo immediately closed his eyes, pretending to be asleep beneath the soft glow of the nightlight, waiting to see what Adrian would do.
Adrian lifted the heavy duvet and climbed onto the bed before stretching out on top of Matteo, resting his full weight against his chest.
He fumbled awkwardly with the blanket for a moment, struggling to pull it back over them both.
Matteo reacted on instinct. Keeping his eyes closed, he reached down, grabbed the edge of the duvet, and pulled it up smoothly until they were both covered.
Adrian leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to Matteo’s forehead before wrapping his arms tightly around his neck. Matteo mirrored the embrace, holding him close. Even though the position was physically uncomfortable with Adrian’s weight pressing down on his chest, Matteo endured it gladly.
Within minutes, Adrian’s breathing evened out as he fell back asleep. Matteo smiled into the dark, closing his eyes as exhaustion finally claimed him again.
The next morning, the persistent ringing of Adrian’s phone woke them both.
Adrian groaned softly, making no effort to lift his head from Matteo’s chest.
The phone continued buzzing relentlessly.
Even though they were both awake, neither of them seemed willing to break the embrace.
Eventually, Matteo lifted a hand and gently stroked Adrian’s back. "Babe," he murmured softly, "the call might be important."
Adrian sighed against his shoulder before finally sitting up and checking the screen. "It’s Maya," he murmured.
"Who’s calling?" Matteo asked, watching him closely.
"Maya," Adrian repeated as he slid off the bed.
He glanced at the phone again before looking back at Matteo. "I’m going to take this outside."
Matteo gave a tight nod. "Okay, baby."
The moment the door clicked shut behind Adrian, a heavy knot formed in Matteo’s stomach. Since when did Adrian need to leave the room just to talk to Maya?
He tried to shake off the paranoia, telling himself that his boyfriend probably just wanted some privacy. But the uneasy feeling lingered.
Later that morning, after they had showered and eaten breakfast, with Matteo carefully keeping track of Adrian’s medication, the two of them were lounging on the living room couch.
Adrian was resting against Matteo’s chest as they watched television when his phone suddenly vibrated with a new message.
Almost immediately, Adrian tilted the screen away, blocking Matteo’s view.
He typed a quick reply, locked the phone, and settled back against Matteo as though nothing had happened.
The secrecy continued throughout the day. It increasingly felt as though Adrian was hiding something important.
That night, just as they were about to turn off the lights and go to sleep, Adrian’s phone rang again. He immediately got out of bed and stepped into the hallway to answer it.
Determined to find out what was going on, Matteo rolled onto his side and pretended to be asleep by the time Adrian returned to the room.
"Babe?" Adrian whispered softly.
Matteo didn’t move.
He kept his breathing slow and even, giving no indication that he was awake.
Assuming his boyfriend was asleep, Adrian quietly climbed back into bed beside him and set his phone on the nightstand.
As he rested his head back on Matteo’s chest, the phone buzzed once more. Believing Matteo was deeply asleep, Adrian brought the phone close to his face, holding it right over Matteo’s chest to reply.
From his angled position, Matteo peeked through his eyelashes, his eyes locking onto the open chat window with Maya.
Maya: Then what about Matteo?
Adrian: I’m going to leave him. I’m not planning on coming back.
Before Matteo could read anything else, Adrian suddenly sat up straight to continue typing, completely blocking the screen.
Matteo’s heart violently slammed against his ribs, his blood turning to ice. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
Adrian is planning to leave me.
The thought completely broke him. He lay frozen, waiting until Adrian finally put the phone away and fell into a deep sleep.
Even then, Matteo didn’t move immediately.
He waited several more minutes, making absolutely sure Adrian was asleep.
Once he was certain, Matteo carefully slipped the phone from the nightstand. He tried entering the passcode he knew by heart, but Adrian had changed it.
Matteo’s stomach sank.
He tried several other combinations in quick succession, but none of them worked.
Every attempt ended in failure.
By the time he finally set the phone back where he had found it, sleep was the last thing on his mind.
He spent the rest of the night staring at the ceiling, trapped in a spiral of fear and uncertainty as he waited for the sun to rise.
When Adrian opened his eyes the next morning, he found Matteo already sitting up, staring blankly ahead. "Good morning, baby," Adrian said, blinking sleepily.
Matteo forced his expression to soften, though his throat felt tight.
"Good morning, love."
He couldn’t bring himself to admit that he had seen the text. Instead, he waited in silence, terrified of whatever Adrian was about to say.
Adrian got out of bed and headed for the bathroom.
After spending a few minutes inside, he returned to the bedroom. He lingered at the edge of the bed, looking nervously at Matteo.
"Baby..."
"Yes, love?" Matteo answered instantly. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Adrian took a slow breath. "I want to tell you... Maya is coming to pick me up tomorrow. I’m going to spend some time with her before I come back to you."
Matteo’s jaw clenched. "Why are you going there?"
"I haven’t spent any quality time with my sister lately, and she misses me," Adrian explained. "I just want to go there for a while."
"Isn’t Maya living with her fiancé now?" Matteo asked, his voice growing sharp.
"Yes, she moved in with him."
"Then what are you going to do there?" Matteo demanded, stepping out of bed. "When you have your man right here to take care of you?"
Adrian rubbed his forehead, looking exhausted. "You’re stressing me out... I’m going to my sister’s place. I’m only telling you so you know."
"You are not allowed," Matteo snapped, his voice echoing through the room. "Permission denied. You are not stepping foot out of this house. I’m not allowing it, and I do not agree."
Adrian didn’t have the energy for a screaming match. "Why are you raising your voice at me? It’s just my sister’s house."
"You are not going anywhere!" Matteo shouted, stepping directly into Adrian’s space, his imposing frame towering over him.
"Why? She’s my sister!" Adrian yelled back, a flash of frustration breaking through his quiet demeanor.
"Yes, I know she’s your sister!" Matteo roared, his composure finally breaking. "But I’m terrified that the moment you walk out that door, you’ll never come back to me!"
Adrian blinked, completely taken aback.
