Chapter 28: Chapter 28 Power Shift

Elara’s POV

Walking down the corridor, I pulled out my phone—check. My hood was up—check. The chain around my neck was secure—check. My flannel shirt was properly tucked in—check...

Boxers or briefs?

Briefs, definitely.

I strolled along, unable to suppress the grin spreading across my face.

A tiny voice of doubt whispered in my head: Don’t get ahead of yourself—what if he’s not interested?

But a bolder voice purred back: Dominating men is what powerful women excel at. He won’t stand a chance.

This time, the bold voice won.

I added items to my cart, proceeded to checkout—payment declined!!!

"Damn it!!!"

I stared at the screen in shock. That sinful four-piece lingerie set—430,000 credits?

They might as well have mugged me and tossed me some fabric scraps as consolation.

I closed the app. Time to earn some cash.

The moment I shut down the shopping app, my phone buzzed again—that same number sequence. I immediately rejected the call. Before heading out, I snatched a metal pipe from the vacant room next door.

You’re finished, you little bastard.

I’d always believed I had decent luck—except when it came to zombie encounters.

Well, what do you know. I’d been craving something to beat up, and here came my opportunity.

As for money?

I’d worry about that later.

My mood had shifted dramatically, nothing like my usual cheerful, bright personality. Remembering the phone call from earlier, Alistair quickly activated his powers and switched to 007.

The facility’s main lobby finally had some visitors.

Vance and Jasper lounged on the couch. How many days had it been without any supply deliveries now?

Frankly, Vance was already anticipating watching Elara grovel at his feet soon enough.

No supply stations, no food deliveries, no escape route, and a bunch of half-dead people stuck in this place—if she had any brains, she’d figure out exactly what she needed to do.

"Everything set?" Jasper asked.

Jasper nodded. "Absolutely. Custom-built, cost a fortune. She won’t be getting out of that cage. Vance, you think she’ll be so terrified she’ll plead for mercy once we trap her in there?"

"Wouldn’t begging be more entertaining?"

They exchanged a knowing look and glanced toward the nearby cage.

Elara’s POV

I positioned myself around the corner, eavesdropping on their conversation, and couldn’t suppress a chuckle.

The sound of approaching footsteps made Vance’s lips curl into a satisfied smirk. He was certain Elara, that pathetic woman, must have been suffering here.

When he looked up, he actually saw a disheveled me. I was gripping a steel pipe and honestly looked like I’d been rummaging through garbage.

"Tsk, what the hell happened to you?"

Vance examined me from head to toe, his expression full of revulsion.

"Elara, were you scavenging through trash? How did you end up looking like this? Finally realize that without us, you’re nothing more than a stray mutt?" Jasper rose from his seat, hands shoved in his pockets, sneering. ƒrēewebnovel.com

A woman without spiritual abilities and no money—what could she possibly accomplish even if she made it here?

The few people trapped in this facility probably had no idea who they were—how could they possibly shield her?

A woman only mattered if she possessed spiritual power. Someone like her was merely a toy.

With this thought, Jasper took a bold step forward but froze when he met my gaze.

It had been a while since they’d last seen me, and I could see the confusion flickering across his face as he studied my appearance more closely.

Jasper gulped. I noticed how his eyes lingered on me with a different kind of hunger than before.

Previously, they’d dismissed me as worthless, so none of them had ever laid a hand on me, directing all their attention toward Beatrix instead. But recently, Beatrix had been keeping both him and Vance at arm’s length.

Beastmen had urges. Since Beatrix wouldn’t allow them near her, they’d redirected their desires back to me.

I was just a worthless woman anyway. With supplies cut off, I must have endured plenty. Plus, with that whole public divorce scandal exploding—they’d become the laughingstock of everyone. Shouldn’t I compensate them for that humiliation?

"Keep your distance from me." ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

I raised my eyes calmly, but my face was too delicate to convey much menace. Combined with the original owner’s "outstanding" reputation, my words didn’t discourage Jasper at all—they only emboldened him.

"What are you acting coy for? Forgotten how you used to beg me? We made a mistake not touching you back then. Now I’ll rectify that."

This was exactly what Alistair heard the instant he successfully switched accounts.

The light on 007’s chest pulsed violently twice, and I could sense his shock at witnessing this side of me—so different from the person he’d observed before.

"Elara!!!" Vance bellowed in horror after snapping back to reality.

"So you two aren’t just repulsive with your words—you’re rotten to the core too?" I aimed the steel pipe at Vance and continued, "Didn’t I tell you that you could only speak when I gave you permission? Hmm?"

"What?"

Vance looked bewildered for a moment, and before he knew it, I brought the pipe crashing down on his skull, sending him plummeting to the ground so forcefully he was practically buried in it.

He spat out a mouthful of blood, staring at me in disbelief as I planted my foot on his face.

"Comfortable? Not quite what you had in mind, is it? Thought I’d be on my knees begging you?"
