Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Bai Su Comes to the Disabled Tribe
Bai Su nodded. "That’s right. He was in a wheelchair, but after eating my food, he said he could feel his legs again. It would be wonderful if he could make a full recovery."
Lu Tingyan abruptly shifted back to his human form, snatching the little rabbit from the water and cradling her in his palm. "Your food can even cure the disabled?!"
Bai Su was startled by his sudden, intense reaction. "I’m not really sure... We won’t know if it can heal them until we try."
It quickly dawned on Lu Tingyan.
’That’s right. If his food could heal the spiritual power trauma of a Level 9 Beastman like him, then healing those disabled individuals—most of whom were only Sixth and Seventh Level—would naturally be much easier!’
Cradling Bai Su as if she were a priceless treasure, Lu Tingyan said, "Susu, you are truly a gift to me from the Beast God!"
He hugged the little rabbit and showered her with kisses, leaving her so covered in slobber that her fur bristled with indignation.
’But I just washed my fur until it was spotless in the water!’
She kicked him in the face, leaving a perfect little rabbit-paw print, but Lu Tingyan wasn’t the least bit annoyed. Instead, he just grinned foolishly.
Bai Su said, "...I didn’t think I kicked you that hard. Did I knock you silly?"
Lu Tingyan kissed her fluffy little rabbit face. "Alright, baby, get some rest for now. There’s something I want to talk to you about tomorrow."
Bai Su was exhausted and didn’t have the energy to think about anything else. Lu Tingyan scooped her up, and she fell asleep almost instantly, nestled in his palm, completely unaware of when he finished blow-drying her fur.
「The next day.」
Lu Tingyan briefly explained the situation with the retired, disabled Beastmen who were being housed by the Bear Beastman Tribe.
Bai Su quickly understood. "You mean, you want to use my food to see if it can heal their disabilities and help them regain their independence?"
Lu Tingyan nodded. "You just keep making and selling your food as usual. I’ll transport it and distribute it to them."
Bai Su nodded. "Of course. It’s a good thing if we can help them."
"But I’d like to go see their situation for myself first."
Lu Tingyan ruffled the fur on her little head. Seeing that she showed no disgust at the mention of the disabled, but was instead exceptionally eager to help, made his heart soften. "Alright."
Lu Tingyan started to get up, ready to leave with her.
After a moment’s thought, Bai Su pulled him to a stop. "Wait a minute. It’s my first time visiting your territory. It wouldn’t be right to go empty-handed, would it? Let me go home and prepare some food!"
Lu Tingyan pulled her back, amused. "You don’t have to..."
Bai Su shot him a glare. "Of course I do! Yesterday was the day we got engaged. If you, the leader, aren’t going to give them any special perks, can’t I at least bring them some tasty treats to lift their spirits?"
Her earnest, determined expression made Lu Tingyan’s heart flutter. He absolutely loved how she already saw them as a single unit.
It gave him a profound sense of stability and security.
’Hmph. How could that stupid snake, Li Chenlin, who’d freeze to death just from an air conditioner, possibly compete with him?’
Bai Su had Lu Tingyan take her back to her mountaintop food shop. She grabbed over ten pounds of pre-made beef jerky and packed it into a small, collapsible storage container.
When the two of them arrived at the military headquarters, the soldiers on the training grounds grew excited at the sight of an exquisitely beautiful young female following Lu Tingyan, complete with fluffy rabbit ears dangling at the sides of her face.
The men nudged each other, none daring to approach, but they couldn’t stop sneaking glances in their direction.
Lu Tingyan’s icy gaze swept across the training field. "Feeling idle?"
The Wolf Beastman soldiers immediately snapped their heads back and resumed their drills, their expressions turning serious, disciplined, and fierce.
Bai Su called Yodel over and handed him a portion of the beef jerky. "I brought some snacks I made myself. There might not be enough for everyone, but I’ll bring more next time."
Yodel quickly thanked her and took the jerky.
Fortunately, only Lu Tingyan’s one hundred elite guards were training on the field today, so one bag of beef jerky per person was just about enough.
’The rest, I can keep it all for myself!’
The Wolf Beastmen had excellent hearing. At the mention of food, they all perked up with excitement. ƒreewebɳovel.com
’And it was handmade by the boss’s woman, no less!’
Lu Tingyan led Bai Su toward the Disabled Tribe’s area.
Bai Su nodded, and before they had gone far, a uniform, earth-shaking roar erupted from behind them. "Thank you, Sister-in-law! Thank you, Boss!"
The shout was so sudden it made her rabbit ears twitch in surprise. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
Lu Tingyan turned and shot them a glare. But when he saw them all grinning foolishly at him, flashing their big white teeth, he couldn’t help but let out an amused curse before leading Bai Su away.
Bai Su actually quite liked the lively atmosphere. She turned and gave the group a smile before following Lu Tingyan.
"Ouch! You stepped on my foot!"
"The sister-in-law is gorgeous! The boss is incredible. He’s a quiet one, but when he makes a move, it’s a showstopper!"
"Damn, our sister-in-law is stunning!"
"Get outta here! Is that any way to compliment someone?"
Bai Su and Lu Tingyan arrived at the quarters for the Disabled Tribe.
Bablo was helping his younger brother hang bedsheets out to dry. He froze when he saw Bai Su and Lu Tingyan, but then his face lit up with excitement.
’Could it be? Is it really happening?’
At this hour, most people were just getting started with their day—working outside their homes, sunbathing, or watching over the small children who were playing and roughhousing nearby.
Lu Tingyan had them all gathered together.
Bai Su began handing out the beef jerky she’d brought, explaining the purpose of her visit. "I heard from Bablo that some of you have eaten my food and that your conditions have improved significantly. That’s why your Leader Lu asked me to come and see for myself."
Seeing their blank expressions, Bablo quickly interjected, "She’s the owner of the Mountain Wild Game shop I told you all about! The food you ate was made by her."
A murmur went through the crowd, and they looked at her with hope filling their faces.
"So it was you!"
"The leader actually brought you to see us."
Bai Su continued, "If my food really is effective for you, I’m willing to provide a long-term supply until you’ve fully recovered. That’s why I’m here today—to see how many of you respond to it and get a headcount."
However, there were far more disabled people here than she had anticipated. The beef jerky she’d brought might not be enough.
"Liar!" a sharp female voice suddenly cried out from the side.
Bi Yue rushed over from a distance with a group of Bear Beastman soldiers. She shot Bablo a venomous glare before turning to Lu Tingyan. "Leader, have you been taken in by this fraud, too?"
Lu Tingyan’s eyes turned cold. His aide, quick to read the situation, stepped forward, seized Bi Yue, and kicked the back of her knee to force her down. "Who do you think you are? How dare you act so disrespectfully toward the Leader?"
Bi Yue’s face flushed with anger as she struggled. "Let me go! I am Bi Yue, daughter of the Bear Clan Tribe’s leader! I am a commander in the army, with the rank of lieutenant!"
The aide pressed her down harder, looking exasperated. "Failing to salute the Leader upon seeing him—is this the military discipline of your Bear Beastman?"
Bi Yue knew she had been too rash and was forced to relent. "Greetings, Leader. This subordinate is Lieutenant Commander Bi Yue, responsible for the military administration of the Bear Clan Tribe."
Lu Tingyan gave her a cold glance but didn’t allow her to rise. "You have publicly slandered my fiancée. Produce evidence to back up your claim, or I will have you disciplined according to military law."
