Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Just Wanting to Humiliate Her
’Ethan Lockwood?’
Perhaps it was the tacit understanding between husband and wife, but Felix Preston immediately guessed the answer in Sonia Quincy’s heart.
Sonia Quincy put her phone away without replying to him.
"How can there be people like you?" Cecilia Quincy said, nestled in Ethan Lockwood’s arms as she feigned indignation on the Preston Family’s behalf.
"If he fell, go to the hospital. If you want compensation, call the police and get a lawyer. What’s the point of harassing a pregnant woman? Besides, slipping and falling is a perfectly normal occurrence. Your husband’s injury isn’t entirely the Preston Family’s fault. You’re just making an unreasonable scene and bullying people!"
"..." Ms. Armstrong was suddenly as if tamed, not daring to utter a single peep in front of Ethan Lockwood and Cecilia Quincy.
"Let’s go, Ethan. Let’s go look at the house," Cecilia Quincy said, tugging on Ethan Lockwood’s hand and giving him a sweet smile.
Ethan Lockwood shot a fierce glare at Ms. Armstrong. "Mm."
"Miss Quincy, Mr. Lockwood, this way, please." Lawrence breathed a sigh of relief and took the lead to guide them.
Sonia Quincy walked into the living room with her arm linked through Mrs. Preston’s, silently making way for them.
"Sonia, it must have been so hard for you these past few days. I hope you and the baby weren’t too affected by that woman?" Before looking at the house, Cecilia Quincy didn’t forget to express her hypocritical concern for Sonia Quincy.
Sonia Quincy’s lips twitched in a cold smile. "I’m fine. Thank you for your concern, Cecilia."
Cecilia Quincy shook her head, her gaze toward Sonia Quincy filled with intense pity. "Your life must be so difficult right now. That woman has been harassing you for so long. You should have contacted me for help sooner! Ethan and I are very busy with work, but we still have time to lend you a hand."
"..." Sonia Quincy’s attitude was dismissive and harsh. "Just go look at the house."
Cecilia Quincy’s expression immediately became aggrieved. "I... I was just trying to help you."
"Let’s look at the house first, Cecilia." Ethan Lockwood squeezed her shoulder and said with a smile, in a voice loud enough for Sonia Quincy to hear, "Isn’t it easy to help Sonia? If you like this house, I’ll buy it. Once Sonia gets the money, all her problems will be solved."
Cecilia Quincy: "That’s right! Then let’s hurry up and look at the house."
Ethan Lockwood took her hand and dangled it in front of Sonia Quincy as if showing off. "Let’s go."
Sonia Quincy: ’...A pair of psychos...’
It was sickening just to look at them.
"Wow, the layout of this house is amazing! Even the smallest secondary bedroom has such a big window!"
"Ah, the master bedroom’s balcony faces this magnolia tree directly! If I turn this into my studio, I could see it every day!"
"A breeze is blowing in, it’s so cool! The ventilation in this house is fantastic! I love it so much!"
Cecilia Quincy was like a sparrow, chirping with amazement at every room she saw.
It was getting on Sonia Quincy’s nerves.
"I love this house so much, Ethan! I want it!"
After completing their tour and returning to the living room, Cecilia Quincy had already made her decision.
Ethan Lockwood looked at her, his eyes full of adoration, and walked with her to stand before Sonia Quincy.
"Sonia, we’re buying this house. Name your price."
Those few words were loaded with Ethan Lockwood’s lofty arrogance.
Sonia Quincy’s lips pressed into a tight line. She didn’t answer him.
He raised an eyebrow and said in a tone dripping with charity, "What’s wrong? Afraid I won’t accept if you name too high a price?"
"Money is the one thing I, Ethan Lockwood, don’t lack. I’ll accept your asking price even if it’s double the original. After all, we’ve known each other, and you’re about to have a baby. Just consider the extra money a gift for the child from Cecilia and me."
"That’s right," Cecilia Quincy chirped in agreement, her smile jarring. "Even though we’ve had our unpleasant moments in the past, that’s all over now. I don’t want to dwell on it. Go ahead and name your price. Ethan and I won’t get mad."
"Heh..." Sonia Quincy laughed, a laugh born of pure anger.
"Name your price, Sonia," Cecilia Quincy said, watching her, unable to wait to hear the number. "Your life is so difficult right now; you must be desperate to sell the house for cash. It just so happens that I really like this house, so if you sell it to me, I can help you out as a matter of course. You don’t have to feel bad about it."
"..." Sonia Quincy was still smiling, but she didn’t say a word.
Cecilia Quincy studied her expression. Thinking her smile seemed bitter and that she was too proud to speak up, she said in a considerate tone, "Sonia, if you’re really having a hard time with this, just think of selling the house as doing me a favor."
"I want to open a jewelry design studio, and Ethan and I have been running around for days looking for a suitable place. Now that I’ve finally found one, I really don’t want to miss out."
"I’m begging you, please just name a price and sell me the house?"
"..." Sonia Quincy gritted her teeth. This lunatic was going to be the death of her.
When Sonia still didn’t speak, Cecilia Quincy turned to Lawrence. "Lawrence, what’s the asking price for Mrs. Preston’s house?"
Lawrence quickly replied, "3.58 million, and it comes with a tandem parking space."
"3.58 million..." Cecilia Quincy thought for a moment, then generously raised the offer. "I’ll pay seven million. Sonia, sell me the house."
’Seven million...’ It was a tempting number.
If Sonia Quincy were shameless, she might have actually agreed in a heartbeat. But unfortunately for them, she still had some pride.
It was a matter of principle. She wouldn’t drag her own dignity and that of the entire Preston Family through the mud for seven million.
Cecilia Quincy tilted her head to look at her, the smile on her face suddenly turning sour. "Sonia, sell me the house and you’ll get the money immediately. With money, you can also resolve the conflict with that woman at the door. After all, her husband was injured in this house. It’s not right for you to keep delaying payment for his medical bills."
"Heh..." Sonia Quincy still didn’t respond to her.
"Sonia, what are you still hesitating for?" Seeing that she still wouldn’t agree, Ethan Lockwood’s lips curled into a mocking smile.
"Do you think seven million is too little? How about I give you eight million? Surely you’d be willing to sell for eight million, right?"
"Hmph..." Sonia Quincy scoffed, glaring at the man before her with a twisted smile. She desperately wanted to smack his big, smug face with a slipper.
Her silence began to irritate him, and he could no longer hide his malice when he spoke again. "Sonia, don’t push your luck. You’ve already ended up in such a miserable state, how have you still not kicked that greedy habit of yours? Cecilia has already given you plenty of face. What more do you want? Do you want to ask for twenty million right off the bat, just like you used to?"
Sonia Quincy clutched the hem of her clothes, silently balling her hands into fists.
’Actually, the best way to retaliate against Ethan Lockwood right now would be to arrogantly declare that she wouldn’t sell him the house. But the house wasn’t hers; it was Mrs. Preston’s. She had no right to make that decision.’
"Mr. Lockwood, I find you rather disrespectful. I don’t believe our Sonia has ever said she would sell the house to you, has she?"
Mrs. Preston, who had been silent the entire time, suddenly spoke up, and her few words made everyone’s expression change.
"Mom..." Sonia Quincy’s eyes widened as she turned to look at the woman beside her in disbelief.
Mrs. Preston raised a hand and placed it lightly but firmly on Sonia Quincy’s lower back. Her tone was resolute as she said, "Sonia, this house is yours. You can decide for yourself whether to sell it or not. However, I feel that a classless buyer like Mr. Lockwood is completely unworthy of our Sonia’s house."
