Chapter 293: Chapter 296: Infiltrating the Mountain Villa
BUZZ—
BUZZ—
The car had just crossed into Kyloria when Willow Quincy received a call from Faye Lane.
He stared at the name on the screen for a few seconds before finally answering the call.
"Hello."
Faye Lane: "Mr. Quincy, this is Faye Lane."
Willow Quincy’s reaction was cool. "I know. Is there a reason for your sudden call, Captain Lane?"
"Mr. Quincy, aren’t you supposed to be recovering in the hospital? How is it that right after you left the police station, you left a body double in your room and disappeared?"
Faye Lane didn’t bother beating around the bush, tearing down all his pretenses with her first words.
Willow Quincy froze for a moment, his heart skipping a beat.
"...You’re joking, Captain Lane." He forced a smirk, struggling to maintain his composure. "I just went home to take care of some private family matters. I’ll be back as soon as I’m done."
Faye Lane: "And how long will these private matters of yours take, Mr. Quincy? I have important business waiting for your cooperation back here."
Willow Quincy chuckled softly. "No need to rush, Captain Lane. I’ll be back tomorrow morning."
"No." Faye Lane shut him down immediately. "I’m giving you four hours, Mr. Quincy. If I don’t see you at the hospital in four hours, I’ll have to personally bring the task force’s experts to Kyloria to find you."
The moment she said the word "Kyloria," Willow Quincy knew he was done for.
But he didn’t panic in the slightest. He was still smiling as he said, "Alright. I’ll see you in four hours, then."
Faye Lane: "I hope you’ll be on time, Mr. Quincy."
Willow Quincy: "I will be."
With that, he hung up.
"Willow, what do we do now?" Mona looked at Willow Quincy, his face pale. He was too panicked to even sit still.
"The police saw through our trick. Should we turn around and go back to Veridia right now?"
"No." Willow Quincy put down his phone, his sharp features set in a grim, stubborn expression. "Keep driving. Ignore them."
"...Huh?" Mona was dumbfounded.
"Keep driving!" Willow Quincy suddenly roared. "To Kyloria, to Nimboria Manor! I have to see Sonia!"
...
Meanwhile, at the Veridia Police Department.
A plainclothes detective stood before Faye Lane and said in a low voice, "Captain Lane, the Kyloria Police Department has units ready. They can move as soon as you give the order."
Faye Lane glanced at her watch, thought for a moment, then ordered, "Tell them to officially move out in five minutes."
The detective: "Yes, ma’am!"
Faye Lane: "What did Chief Collins say? How much longer until the task force reaches Kyloria?"
The detective reported, "Chief Collins and the task force experts are already halfway there. They’re expected to enter Kyloria in about an hour and a half."
"Got it." Faye Lane grabbed her jacket from the back of her chair and quickly put it on. "Go tell the Kyloria team not to make any rash moves before the task force arrives. But if Willow Quincy tries to take a hostage and escape, that’s another story."
The detective: "Yes, ma’am!"
Faye Lane: "Also, if Finn Quincy comes asking about Willow Quincy’s situation, just tell him that Willow is fine. Say that while his name hasn’t been cleared, we currently can’t prove he’s the one who kidnapped Charlotte Shaw."
"Understood?"
The detective nodded. "Understood!"
「At that same moment, on Misty Peak Mountain.」
"Nimboria Manor is just ahead." Mason Shaw pointed to a white villa in the distance, panting as he spoke. "That’s the villa Willow Quincy bought from Wallace Usher."
"Are you sure?" Jasper Linden asked, still uneasy.
Felix Preston adjusted his glasses. "Positive. I just sent a photo to Evan Yates, and he said Wallace Usher confirmed this is the villa Willow Quincy bought. Plus, the route we took up here was the one Wallace Usher provided."
Riley Chase put his hands on his hips, still catching his breath. "So, should we go in and take a look?"
Felix Preston: "Of course we’re going to check it out, but we can’t all go. Willow Quincy is cunning by nature. He’s definitely set up a lot of security around the manor. He knows all of us, so if we show our faces, we’ll definitely tip him off."
"That’s why, Riley Chase, you’re the only one of us who can go in."
"No problem!" Riley Chase agreed instantly, without a moment’s hesitation.
"What about us?" Jasper Linden asked. "What do the rest of us do?"
Felix Preston: "The rest of us can follow you to the manor gate. If there’s a chance, we’ll sneak in. If not, we’ll wait outside to provide backup for Riley Chase."
Riley Chase wiped the sweat from his forehead. "Preston, how am I supposed to get in?"
Felix Preston had already thought about this on the way up the mountain.
He pulled his phone from his pocket and sent Riley Chase a message on WeChat.
"I’ve sent you Wallace Usher’s number. You’re going to pose as a maintenance worker for the manor to get in. If they don’t believe you, call this number, and Evan Yates will back you up."
Riley Chase: "Okay!"
Felix Preston took the backpack off Jasper Linden’s shoulders and pushed it into Riley Chase’s hands. "Wear this. It’ll make you look the part."
Riley Chase immediately slung the backpack on. "So, I’m going now?"
Felix Preston nodded. "Yeah. You go on ahead. We’ll follow behind you."
Riley Chase: "Got it!"
With the simple plan settled, the group split into three small teams and approached Nimboria Manor under the cover of darkness.
Five minutes later, Riley Chase reached the main gate of the manor.
Sure enough, Willow Quincy had stationed plenty of bodyguards at the manor. The moment Riley Chase got close, three burly men immediately surrounded him.
"Stop!"
The man in the lead blocked Riley Chase’s path menacingly. "This is a private manor. Unauthorized personnel are not allowed. Go back where you came from!"
"I—I’m not unauthorized personnel! I’m a maintenance inspector for the manor!" Riley Chase straightened his back and explained with feigned confidence.
"...A maintenance inspector?" The man narrowed his eyes, sizing him up. "A private manor has maintenance inspectors?"
"Of course it does!" Riley Chase deliberately raised his voice. "The manors on this mountain may be private, but they all belong to the same developer. I’m an inspector from the developer’s side, responsible for regular inspections. If I find a problem, I contact the repair crew to come fix it."
"...Really?"
Riley Chase’s story was convincing, but the man was still half-doubting.
"Of course it’s real!" Riley Chase pulled out his phone, pulled up Wallace Usher’s number, and showed it to him. "I have your manor owner’s number. If you don’t believe me, I can call him right now and have him vouch for me."
The man glanced at his phone, and his expression changed slightly when he saw the name Wallace Usher.
"This Wallace Usher is the former owner of the manor. He sold it half a year ago. You didn’t know that?"
