Chapter 275: Chapter 278: There Is a Problem with Renee Sinclair’s Information

Felix Preston took out his phone and called Evan Yates right in front of Jude Quinn.

"Hello?"

The call connected, and a male voice, also disguised by a voice changer, came through the receiver.

Felix Preston stared menacingly at Jude Quinn as he spoke to Evan Yates on the phone. "The villa Willow Quincy bought is on Misty Peak Mountain in Kyloria. The previous owner was a man named Wallace Usher."

Evan Yates: "Got it! I’ll look into it right now!"

Felix Preston: "Okay."

Then he hung up.

"Jude Quinn, if you dare lie to me about a single thing, I’ll send all this evidence straight to the police!"

"No, I wouldn’t dare!" Jude Quinn’s round, stout body was kneeling perfectly straight, as if swearing an oath to Felix Preston.

"Sir, you can check anything you want! If I told you even half a lie, I’ll bash my head in and die right here in front of you!"

"..." Felix Preston shot him a speechless look before turning and leaving the basement.

But strangely, he didn’t close the basement’s iron door.

The wide iron door, large enough for two people, was left wide open. The morning light, a symbol of freedom, stung Jude Quinn’s eyes.

Jude Quinn’s heart stirred with a foolish impulse.

But the next second, a clatter of chaotic footsteps suddenly sounded at the doorway.

Immediately after, four or five hulking, burly men walked in from outside.

"...What’s going on?" He stared blankly at the burly men who had surrounded him, swallowing nervously. "Wh-What do you want?"

"..."

The burly men didn’t speak, just stared at him with grim, sinister expressions.

He shrank back, deliberately raising his voice to bolster his courage. "Don’t try anything funny! Your boss already said he wouldn’t report me!"

"I said I wouldn’t report you, but I never said I wouldn’t do other things to you."

Felix Preston’s voice sounded from the doorway once again.

Jude Quinn whipped his head around, peering through the gap between the burly men’s legs to see Felix Preston standing not far away.

"...Boss, what do you mean by this?" he asked cautiously.

Felix Preston ignored him, only giving a cold command. "Do it. Just don’t kill or permanently cripple him."

"Yes, sir!" the burly men answered in unison.

"What?" Jude Quinn still hadn’t understood Felix Preston’s meaning.

Felix Preston couldn’t be bothered with him anymore. With a slight turn of his tall figure, he quickly disappeared from the doorway.

"...Wait, Boss!"

Jude Quinn was still bewildered when the burly men’s fists began to rain down on him.

"AH!"

"AHHH!!!"

"Don’t hit me, don’t hit me, AHHH!!"

"I thought we agreed to cooperate peacefully! Why are you hitting me?! WHY!!!"

Screams like a pig being slaughtered echoed from the basement. Felix Preston took off his mask, his brow furrowed in annoyance.

"Hah..." Evan Yates sneered and said viciously, "The man’s an animal. It’s a shame we can’t just kill him outright!"

Felix Preston shook his head, a hint of sorrow in his expression. "I’ll leave the rest to you. I’m taking my men and heading to Kyloria immediately."

Evan Yates: "No problem. Have you given Director Collins a heads-up?"

Felix Preston took off his overcoat, picked up another one from a chair, and put it on. "I’ll talk to him later. Have you been able to contact Renee Sinclair?"

"Ah..." Evan Yates sighed. "Not yet. I’ve called Renee Sinclair several times, but she hasn’t picked up."

"It’s fine." Felix Preston pulled a pair of glasses from his coat pocket, gave them a quick wipe, and put them on. "I’ll handle contacting Renee Sinclair. You just focus on things here."

"I’m leaving. Call me if anything comes up."

Evan Yates saw him to the door. "Be careful on the road. I’ve already got people looking into Wallace Usher. If all goes well, we should have something by noon today."

"Good." Felix Preston patted his shoulder, gave him a faint smile, and left with his car keys.

The black Mercedes exited the underground parking garage, turned right, and then sped straight toward the Aethelburg-Kyloria Expressway.

Before getting on the expressway, he first called Kevin Collins to report on the matter concerning Willow Quincy.

That morning, the task force’s investigation finally had a breakthrough. After a lengthy search, they had finally spotted a suspicious vehicle on a surveillance camera near the auto repair shop.

Coincidentally, the owner of that car was a former employee of the Quincy Group. Although he had left the company long ago, he had never lost contact with Willow Quincy.

His appearance cast a great deal of suspicion on Willow Quincy. So, when Felix Preston mentioned that Willow Quincy had bought a secondhand villa, Kevin Collins immediately took this lead seriously and reported it to the task force.

The task force began its investigation at once.

Felix Preston didn’t hide anything from Kevin Collins, confessing his plan directly.

"Uncle Collins, I’m already on my way to Kyloria. If the task force finds anything new, please be sure to tell me immediately."

"Felix, you..." Kevin Collins had intended to scold him, but on second thought, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for him.

"Ah..." Kevin Collins sighed helplessly, ultimately holding back his reprimand.

"You... oh, you. I don’t even know what to say to you anymore."

Felix Preston’s face was taut. "I’m sorry, Uncle Collins. I won’t cause you any trouble."

Kevin Collins: "I’m not worried about you causing me trouble. I’m worried you’ll get emotional and act rashly! Felix, once you get to Kyloria, you stay put. Don’t you dare take one step near Misty Peak Mountain without my permission!"

"Willow Quincy is exceptionally cunning. You absolutely cannot alert the enemy, understand?"

"I understand. Thank you, Uncle Collins." Felix Preston’s agreement was docile.

But Kevin Collins knew it was all an act. Ruthlessness and cruelty were his true nature.

"Be safe on the road, and report your location to me at all times."

Felix Preston: "Okay."

After hanging up, he immediately called Renee Sinclair.

Renee Sinclair must have finished whatever she was doing, because she answered his call quickly.

"Hello, Felix Preston."

"The information you gave me was wrong," Felix Preston said, not beating around the bush and getting straight to his conclusion.

"...What?" Renee Sinclair was stunned. "What was wrong with the information I gave you?"

Felix Preston: "I kidnapped Jude Quinn. He confessed that Willow Quincy bought the villa from Wallace Usher. To curry favor with Willow Quincy, Usher also gifted her the mountain estate."

"The estate is located on Misty Peak Mountain in Kyloria, not on Mount Rubicon in Norbane."

"...Huh?" Renee Sinclair was momentarily dumbfounded.

Felix Preston said gravely, "Jude Quinn’s confession has many discrepancies with the information you gave me. The name of the owner, the origin of the estate, and its specific location—none of it matches what you said."

"I’ve thought it over, and I’ve decided to trust Jude Quinn. He’s a coward who’s afraid of death, so there’s no way he would dare lie to me under duress."

Renee Sinclair: "So you’re saying I lied to you?"
