Chapter 252: Chapter 255: Willow Quincy Is in Trouble
"Hmm?" Willow Quincy heard something off in Aunt Bell’s words. He looked down, adjusting the cuffs of his sweater as he walked downstairs. "Did Sonia say something to you?"
Aunt Bell followed behind him, frowning, and gave a troubled "mhm."
Willow Quincy asked, "What did she say?"
"Sigh..." Aunt Bell let out a gloomy sigh before she hesitantly began to speak, repeating word-for-word all the harsh things Charlotte Shaw had said to her the day before.
Willow Quincy couldn’t care less that she had been yelled at. He only cared about what Charlotte Shaw had said.
Charlotte Shaw’s temper had never been good, and the impulsive things she said when she was emotional were far from pleasant.
Although Willow Quincy was long used to Charlotte Shaw’s sharp tongue, he couldn’t help but feel a surge of emotion upon hearing the words she used to push him away.
"She really said that?" he asked, his face dark and his voice cold.
Aunt Bell’s tone was certain. "Sonia really did say that. If you don’t believe me, you can check the surveillance camera in the room!"
"...I see." Willow Quincy’s voice suddenly grew dejected, and he said nothing more.
Aunt Bell followed closely behind him, comforting him with concern. "Mr. Quincy, you don’t have to be so disheartened. Sonia was just brought to your side; it’s normal for her to be resistant."
"You’re so handsome and so rich. As long as you’re willing to put in the effort and treat Sonia well, I’m sure she’ll be moved by you one day!"
Hearing this, Willow Quincy’s steps faltered for a moment as he descended the stairs.
"Really? Will she really... be moved by me?"
"Of course!" Aunt Bell said with absolute conviction. "I’m a woman too, so I know exactly what Sonia is thinking. She just broke up with that Felix Preston, so of course she isn’t willing to accept you right away. That would make her seem like she doesn’t care about her past relationship. She needs some time to convince herself."
"I..."
BUZZ BUZZ—
BUZZ BUZZ—
The sudden vibration of a phone cut Aunt Bell off.
Aunt Bell tactfully fell silent, giving Willow Quincy a quiet environment to answer the call.
Willow Quincy took out his phone. A single glance at the caller’s name on the screen made his sharp brows furrow instantly.
"You can go downstairs."
He said this to Aunt Bell, who was lingering beside him, before answering the phone.
"Okay," she replied, and immediately scurried downstairs.
Willow Quincy held the phone for a few seconds, waiting until the sound of Aunt Bell’s footsteps faded down the stairwell before he answered the call.
"Hello."
"Mr. Quincy, we have a problem."
"What kind of problem?" Willow Quincy turned on the spot and strode back upstairs.
"It’s the new project we just took on!" The person on the other end sounded frantic. "You need to call a video conference right away. If we delay any longer, this is going to be a disaster!"
"Understood," Willow Quincy said.
He returned to his room, rushed to his desk, and immediately started an emergency video conference.
At 12:30 PM, Aunt Bell came upstairs right on time to deliver lunch.
"Just leave it there." Charlotte Shaw was sitting on the bed, her tone much colder toward Aunt Bell than before.
Aunt Bell placed the food on the dining table. Seeing that Charlotte had no intention of coming over to eat yet, she didn’t rush to get out the utensils for her.
"Sonia." She studied Charlotte Shaw’s expression and, risking another scolding, said, "Mr. Quincy has been in a meeting in his room all morning. He hasn’t had a single bite to eat. Look, how about you take some food in to him?"
"...Why should I take it to him?" Charlotte Shaw shot Aunt Bell a sideways glance, looking completely exasperated. "Are Willow Quincy and I on good terms? Why should I be the one to bring him food just because he hasn’t eaten?"
"Well..." Aunt Bell stammered, unable to come up with an answer.
Charlotte Shaw rolled her eyes at her. "Me, bring him food? I’d thank the heavens if he starved to... Huh? What did you just say?"
Charlotte Shaw was halfway through her tirade when she suddenly realized the hidden information in Aunt Bell’s words.
"You said Willow Quincy has been in a meeting all morning?"
"Yes." Aunt Bell’s brow was deeply furrowed, her face etched with worry for Willow Quincy. "After Mr. Quincy left your room, he suddenly got a phone call. I don’t know what the person on the other end said, but right after he hung up, he dove into his room for a meeting and hasn’t come out since."
"...How many hours has he been in the meeting?" Charlotte Shaw asked, feigning calmness.
Aunt Bell calculated the time. "Mr. Quincy went into his room at 9:30 this morning. It’s been over four hours now."
"Over four hours..." Charlotte Shaw narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "Even a shareholders’ meeting doesn’t take that long, does it?"
"What shareholders’ meeting?" Aunt Bell asked curiously.
"Nothing, I was just talking nonsense," Charlotte Shaw said dismissively. "By the way, do you remember how Willow Quincy reacted when he got that call?"
"His reaction?" Aunt Bell scratched her head, thinking hard. "Mr. Quincy didn’t have a huge reaction. His face just darkened a bit, and he seemed a little angry."
"Ah..." Charlotte Shaw raised an eyebrow, but couldn’t deduce anything from that.
"Sonia," Aunt Bell pressed on, steeling herself. "Mr. Quincy only listens to you. Why don’t you bring him something to eat after you finish your meal?"
"Not going." Charlotte Shaw got out of bed and sauntered over to the dining table to eat.
"If he’s hungry, he knows how to find food himself. I’m not taking him anything."
"But Mr. Quincy is busy," Aunt Bell argued.
"Hmph," Charlotte Shaw sneered, her tone malicious. "Being busy is good. It’d be best if he worked himself to death!"
"Sonia!" Aunt Bell said, displeased. "You... How can you say that about Mr. Quincy?"
Charlotte Shaw glared at her impatiently. "I’ll say what I want about him. Keep talking and you can die with him!"
Aunt Bell: "..."
Being old, she couldn’t stand hearing the word "die," so she reluctantly shut her mouth.
After eating, Charlotte Shaw went back to bed for a nap. When she woke up, it was already almost four in the afternoon.
Willow Quincy still hadn’t come out of his room.
Charlotte Shaw was now certain that he must have run into trouble.
But as for what kind of trouble, she would have to do a little probing to find out.
She rolled out of bed, put on her slippers, and crept to the door of Willow Quincy’s room.
Willow Quincy had told her she could enter his room whenever she wanted, so she deliberately didn’t knock, simply turning the handle and strolling right in.
Willow Quincy was sitting in front of his computer, but he wasn’t wearing headphones.
Charlotte Shaw glanced over, and the flicker of anticipation in her heart was instantly extinguished.
"Sonia?" Willow Quincy was pleasantly surprised to see her come in. He stood up from his chair, leaning on the desk with both hands and beaming at her. "What brings you here? Were you getting bored in your room?"
