Chapter 208: Chapter 211: Let Me Hear You Call Me Husband
"BWAHAHAHA!!"
"BWAHAHAHAHA!!!"
Jasper Linden’s disastrous blind date stories were a dime a dozen. Lynn Preston had been laughing all the way home, and she was still cracking up even as they reached her apartment building entrance.
Jasper Linden let her laugh. He wasn’t mad at all; he was even in the mood to comfort her instead.
"I won’t come up. You should go get some rest. Don’t waste your energy getting worked up over that scumbag Liam Joyce."
"I know." Lynn Preston wiped away tears of laughter from the corners of her eyes and patted Jasper Linden’s shoulder. "Don’t you be in such a hurry, either. Blind dates are all about fate. If you can’t find the right person, don’t force it. Let your parents nag all they want. As long as you’re shameless enough, they’ll be helpless."
"Mm." Jasper Linden smiled and nodded, then suddenly pulled out his phone to show Lynn Preston something.
"Huh?" Lynn Preston’s eyes widened in surprise. "Isn’t this my resume? What are you doing with it?"
Jasper Linden: "That studio, ’Whatever,’ is run by a childhood friend of mine. I’ve mentioned you to him before, so he sent me your resume as soon as he received it."
"...No way!" Lynn Preston’s lips parted slightly, her bright eyes filled with astonishment. "What a coincidence! I can’t believe I sent my resume to your childhood friend’s studio! So, did he tell you whether I got the job?"
"Hmm..." Jasper Linden narrowed his eyes in thought. "He didn’t say whether you’d be hired, only that with your qualifications and work experience, you might be a bit overqualified for his studio."
"Not overqualified, not at all! I’m definitely not overqualified!" Lynn Preston waved her hands frantically. "The salary he’s offering is even higher than what Liam Joyce paid me. I’d be more than willing to work there—I’d enjoy it! I’m not overqualified in the slightest!"
"Alright." Jasper Linden raised an eyebrow and put his phone away. "In that case, I’ll find some time to convey your strong desire to work there and tell him to get your workstation ready in advance."
Lynn Preston: "Really?!!!"
Jasper Linden retorted, "Do I have any reason to lie to you?"
"...Thank you!!!" Lynn Preston grabbed his arm, shaking it back and forth in excitement. "I owe you one, Jasper Linden! The day I officially start, I’ll take you out to dinner!"
Jasper Linden smiled nonchalantly, a corner of his mouth curling up. "You don’t have to treat me. I should be the one treating you. You’re my blind-dating strategist, after all. I still need your help with my love life."
Lynn Preston puffed out her chest with a look of utter reliability. "No problem! You can count on me!"
"Mm." Jasper Linden took two steps back and waved. "It’s getting late, so go on up and get some rest. Even though you don’t have to go to work tomorrow, a good night’s sleep is still essential."
Lynn Preston: "Okay, bye."
Jasper Linden: "Bye."
Mrs. Preston got off work a bit late today. After dinner, she went over to the Shaw family’s home to play with her grandson for a while, so when Lynn Preston walked in, she saw her mother still at her desk, preparing lessons under the lamp.
"Mom, you’re still up?" Lynn Preston leaned against the doorway as she changed her shoes, already accustomed to the sight.
Mrs. Preston adjusted the glasses on her nose and hummed softly in response.
After changing her shoes, Lynn Preston walked toward her room, pulling things out of her pockets and tossing them all onto the sofa as she went.
"..." Mrs. Preston shot her a weary glance but didn’t immediately scold her. Instead, she asked with a half-smile, "Lynn, who was that young man who dropped you off? He didn’t look like Joyce to me."
Hearing this, Lynn Preston’s back suddenly stiffened.
"...That wasn’t Liam Joyce." After a moment’s pause, she said in a flat tone, "It was Jasper Linden."
"Linden?" Mrs. Preston looked up, a hint of surprise in her tired eyes. "Linden was the one who brought you home?"
"Yeah." Lynn Preston pushed open the bathroom door but stood in the doorway without going in.
Mrs. Preston turned to look at her. "Why did Linden bring you home? What about Joyce? Didn’t he hire an assistant specifically to drive you around?"
"...There won’t be a Joyce anymore." Lynn Preston didn’t hide anything, telling her mother everything that had happened that night.
"Liam Joyce is a good friend of Ethan Lockwood’s, and he took part in the scheme against the Preston family. I’m disgusted by him, so I cut ties."
Those two short sentences made Mrs. Preston’s expression instantly darken. She frowned and slowly took off her glasses.
"Alright." She didn’t say anything more about it, just smiled at Lynn Preston. "Lynn, go take a shower first. After that, get a good night’s sleep. Don’t rush to find a new job. We can talk about it after you’ve had some time to rest."
"...Mm!" Lynn Preston nodded.
Mrs. Preston: "Go on, take your shower. You’ll be a clean, fresh Lynn when you’re done."
Lynn Preston felt a sting in her nose, but she wouldn’t allow herself to cry over Liam Joyce, so she fought to keep a smile on her face.
"Okay!"
...
"Felix Preston! I want to dance!"
First thing in the morning, Charlotte Shaw brandished her phone at Felix Preston and declared this with great conviction.
Felix Preston came out of the bathroom with a toothbrush in his mouth and beckoned to Charlotte Shaw.
"Coming!" Charlotte Shaw scurried over with tiny steps and dutifully snuggled into Felix Preston’s arms.
With his mouth full of foam, Felix Preston mumbled, "Why the sudden urge to dance?"
Charlotte Shaw looked up from his embrace, her gaze fixated adoringly on his lean, elegant neck and the sexy prominence of his Adam’s apple. "My followers on Douyin just passed ten million, right? So for the past few days, a lot of fans have been sending me private messages asking for a special giveaway. I didn’t know what to give, so I asked in the comments, and they were all unanimous—they want to see me dance."
"Have you decided what dance you’re going to do?" Felix Preston asked with a smile, ruffling her hair.
Charlotte Shaw shook her head. "I-I’m not very coordinated, and my dancing is kind of awful, so I plan to find a really simple one to learn."
"Sounds good." Felix Preston put his arm around her, leading her into the bathroom to keep him company while he finished getting ready.
"Besides dancing, are there any other perks for your fans?"
Charlotte Shaw leaned against him and said languidly, "Yep. I’m also going to pick twenty fans and send each of them a necklace I designed myself. Each one is worth at least four figures!"
"Mm." Felix Preston looked at her in the mirror, giving her an appreciative glance. "Very nice."
Charlotte Shaw: "Then I’ll go pick a dance right now!"
With that, she turned to run off, but a second later, Felix Preston suddenly grabbed her wrist and yanked her back.
"Oof!" She stumbled back into Felix Preston’s arms and looked up at him, bewildered. "What’s wrong?"
Felix Preston wrapped his arms around her waist, his gaze dropping to the small mole on the tip of her nose. He put on a deliberately stern expression. "Charlotte, there’s something I’ve been wanting to talk about for a long time."
Charlotte Shaw was taken aback by his overly serious expression, a sense of nervousness creeping into her heart.
"What is it?"
Felix Preston tilted his head slightly. "You always call me by my full name, but you’ve never once called me ’husband’."
"Why is that?"
