Chapter 204: Chapter 207: The Lady Boss’s Treat
"Heh..." Evan Yates shook his head with a cold laugh. "It’s true you can know a person’s face but not their heart. If you hadn’t told me all this, I would’ve actually thought he was some kind of deeply devoted, lovesick fool."
"A lovesick fool?" Felix Preston’s eyes narrowed, filled with scorn. "Him? He doesn’t deserve the title."
"Ugh..." Evan Yates sighed, growing more speechless the more he thought about it. "Whenever his late wife is mentioned, George Sutton’s eyes well up with tears. The way he wipes his eyes and repents... he’s a better actor than the pros."
"If you ask me, he chose the wrong path in life. He shouldn’t have gone into business. He should’ve joined The Southern Opera Troupe to perform."
Evan Yates really had it in for George Sutton. They had already driven two kilometers, and he was still cursing indignantly.
Felix Preston took off his glasses and began to methodically clean the lenses amidst the tirade.
After carefully wiping both sides of the lenses clean and slightly adjusting the angle of the temples, Felix Preston put his glasses back on. Just then, Evan Yates’s cursing finally stopped.
"Preston, you shouldn’t have told me what a heartless, despicable scoundrel George Sutton is. Now I feel disgusted just thinking about him."
Felix Preston gave a helpless smile. "Whether I told you or not, George Sutton would still be that kind of person."
"Don’t dwell on it. We’re businessmen. In business, you look at profits, not character. Even if he’s rotten to the core, we still have to work with him if it’s necessary."
"I know." Evan Yates frowned, looking displeased. "George Sutton not only invested in us, but he also paid for a new studio for us out of his own pocket. No matter how much I hate him, I’ll still keep up appearances."
"Mm," Felix Preston nodded. "George Sutton has been very generous to us. Though his generosity is more about assuaging his own guilt, as the beneficiaries of this situation, we have no reason to refuse."
"Business is business, and his personal life is his personal life. No matter how rotten his life is, it has nothing to do with our business."
"Let’s not worry about him anymore. Get ready to take on the new challenges ahead."
Evan Yates took a deep breath. "Alright!"
...
George Sutton’s funds arrived quickly. On the fifth day after the contract was signed, the three million he invested was already in the account of Felix Preston’s studio.
Moreover, the new studio he was paying for out of his own pocket was already mostly finished.
"Sandy, look at Auntie. Auntie’s right here..."
Lynn Preston twirled a rattle drum, making Sandy giggle happily in his crib.
Charlotte Shaw lay lazily in bed, sluggishly trying to finish a design for a client.
"Sister-in-law, are you still not done with that leaf?" Lynn Preston glanced at her, and seeing her looking completely stressed out, asked out of curiosity.
Charlotte Shaw put down her tablet, her face completely expressionless.
"I’ve already drawn the leaf. I just can’t get the color right."
Lynn Preston asked, "What color is so hard to mix?"
Charlotte Shaw looked at her blankly. "A colorful white."
"...A colorful... white?" Lynn Preston’s mind was in a knot. "What kind of color is that?"
"I don’t know." Charlotte Shaw turned off the tablet and tossed it to the foot of the bed. "I’m not drawing anymore. I haven’t even finished my postpartum confinement. To hell with drawing their picture."
"Exactly," Lynn Preston agreed.
Charlotte Shaw scooted over to the crib to play with the baby alongside Lynn Preston.
The little guy loved to laugh, especially when Charlotte Shaw made him. As soon as she took out a toy to play with him, he would GIGGLE nonstop.
"Oh no, the little bug is going to bite Sandy’s little foot..."
"HEHEHE..."
"The little bug is crawling, crawling, now it’s coming to bite Sandy’s little ear..."
"HEHEHEHE..."
Sandy stared adoringly at Charlotte Shaw with his big, round eyes. When Charlotte casually picked up a caterpillar toy and teased him with it, he laughed so hard his eyes crinkled into slits.
’This little stinker is just too cute.’ Charlotte Shaw’s heart was melting from his cuteness. She couldn’t help but pull out her phone, record a video of his silly laugh, and send it to Felix Preston.
—Your son.
Felix Preston replied a few minutes later.
—I see my son, but where’s my wife?
Charlotte Shaw opened her camera, snapped a picture of herself with a raised hand, and sent it.
—Your wife is here.
Felix Preston: Let me see my wife.
Then he immediately started a video call.
"Ahem..." Charlotte Shaw cleared her throat and sent Felix Preston a warning before accepting the call.
—Lynn is right next to me, so don’t you dare say anything crazy.
Felix Preston replied in a flash: Yes, darling.
A corner of Charlotte Shaw’s mouth quirked up in a smile. Only then did she accept the video call, feeling reassured.
"Charlotte." Felix Preston smiled gently from the other side of the screen, his eyes sparkling.
Charlotte Shaw waved at him, then immediately flipped the camera to show him Sandy.
Lynn Preston said, "Sandy, your daddy’s here."
"Uh..." As if he understood her, Sandy immediately responded with a babyish gurgle.
Felix Preston adjusted his glasses. He couldn’t help but put on a baby voice whenever he spoke to Sandy.
"Sandy, do you see Daddy? Daddy’s right here."
Sandy stared with his big, clear eyes, his gaze fixed on the rattle drum in Lynn Preston’s hand. He clearly did not see his dad.
Charlotte Shaw openly mocked him, "Sandy only has eyes for his toys. He has no time to look at you."
Felix Preston chuckled. "You heartless little thing. Forgetting your dad the moment you get a toy."
"HAHAHAHA." Lynn Preston laughed, gloating. "Bro, are you guys done moving the studio?"
Felix Preston flipped the camera to show her the messy studio. "Not yet. We probably won’t be completely done until tomorrow afternoon."
"I’m dead tired... I’m dead tired!!" Evan Yates howled as he passed behind Felix Preston. "Sister-in-law, I need water! I need milk tea!!"
Charlotte Shaw replied, "Alright, I’ll order some for you in a bit."
Felix Preston pursed his lips. "Just get him a cheap lemonade. For a cup of that, you could make him climb eight flights of stairs five more times."
Sandy was completely absorbed in playing, with no time at all for Felix Preston. So, Charlotte Shaw simply flipped the camera back to herself and enjoyed the view of Felix’s handsome face.
"Evan Yates is getting cheap lemonade. What about you? I’ll get you something too."
Felix Preston "poked" her cheek through the screen. "I’ll drink anything. You can choose for me."
Charlotte Shaw propped her chin on her hand and nodded dazedly. "Okay. And while you’re at it, ask the other employees at the studio what they want. It’s my treat."
"OOH!" Evan Yates passed by the camera a second time, yelling at the top of his lungs, "The boss’s wife is treating us to milk tea! Everyone, come place your orders!"
"WOOHOO!!"
The moment Evan Yates’s voice fell, a series of excited whoops erupted in the studio. The employees, all covered in dust and grime from the move, crowded behind Felix Preston and waved at Charlotte Shaw on the screen.
"Thank you, Lady Boss!"
"I want pizza too, Lady Boss!"
"I want fried chicken!"
Charlotte Shaw made an "OK" sign at the camera. "You got it all!"
"Sister-in-law, it’s about time for me to go."
The video call had just ended when Lynn Preston put down the rattle drum and stood up from her chair.
"Liam Joyce is planning to confess his feelings to me tonight. I should probably go and settle things with him."
