Chapter 202: Chapter 205: I Will Only Acknowledge Her

Charlotte Shaw: "Because my mom’s coming to sleep with me in a little while!"

Felix Preston: "Oh..."

SLAM!

The door slammed shut right in front of him. Holding his pillow, he stood at the doorway, utterly dejected.

SLAM!

A few seconds later, a similar slam echoed from above him.

Felix Preston glanced upstairs and saw Mason Shaw trudging dejectedly down the stairs, a pale yellow, floral-patterned pillow in his hand.

"Mason?" Felix Preston called out, confused.

He looked over at the voice and gave Felix Preston a bitter smile. "Fancy seeing you here, Felix."

As he finished speaking, his gaze shifted downward and landed on the light green pillow with sheer lace trim in Felix Preston’s hand. He froze for a moment, and the bitter smile on his face instantly morphed into a brilliant one.

"Well, well. You got kicked out, too?"

Felix Preston adjusted his glasses, looking a bit sheepish. "I wasn’t kicked out. Mom wanted to sleep with Charlotte, so she just had me move to another room for the time being."

"...Oh." Mason Shaw’s smile froze, and his mood instantly soured.

Felix Preston glanced at his pillow and asked curiously, "So, what about you?"

Mason Shaw walked down the stairs with a wooden expression. "Isn’t it obvious? I got kicked out."

"Why?" Felix Preston asked, his expression turning gossipy.

Mason Shaw walked over to him. "Because I messed up again... Come on, we can room together tonight."

"...Huh?" Felix Preston was a bit taken aback.

Mason Shaw didn’t care whether he agreed or not, walking right up, slinging an arm around his shoulder, and steering him away.

"We’re both outcasts in this world; why not spend the night together?"

"Felix, do I really look like some big, clumsy oaf? Why does your sister-in-law always scold me for not knowing my own strength?"

Felix Preston: "...Huh?"

Mason Shaw: "Hey, has my sister ever yelled at you like that?"

Felix Preston shook his head. "Charlotte never yells at people like that."

"Wow, my little sister is that well-behaved?" Mason Shaw said in surprise.

Felix Preston: "Charlotte’s never yelled at me, but she’ll yell at other people."

Mason Shaw: "What does she say when she yells?"

Felix Preston: "She calls people dumbasses, and tells them the thing on their neck is a tumor. When she gets really mad, she’ll order people to jump off a building. Or she’ll tell them to eat rat poison, saying that if they eat it and die, it just proves they were a rat spirit in human form."

"BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!" Mason Shaw roared with laughter. "My little sister is hilarious!"

Felix Preston smiled, too. "Charlotte is incredibly endearing. I’m always happy when I’m with her."

Mason Shaw: "No wonder you love her so much..."

Felix Preston: "I really, truly do love her."

...

With that whole mess of things finally resolved, Felix Preston felt much more at ease. Next, he would prepare to focus on settling a debt he owed.

"Even though Mr. Sutton didn’t say anything at the time, he’s definitely still upset that you’ve kept him waiting for so many days. When you go in, make sure your attitude is sincere and apologetic. You absolutely cannot offend Mr. Sutton again, understand, Preston?"

At the gate of the luxurious villa, Evan Yates anxiously reminded Felix Preston again and again.

Amused by his nervous state, Felix Preston couldn’t help but laugh. "Do you really need to teach me something that simple?"

"Tsk..." Evan Yates picked up the gift box at his feet and shot Felix Preston a reproachful look. "Preston, am I teaching you? I’m reminding you!"

"That Cecilia Quincy has been driving you crazy lately. I’m afraid you haven’t calmed down yet, and if Mr. Sutton says something harsh, I’m worried you’ll just blow up at him!"

Felix Preston chuckled. "Am I that reckless?"

Evan Yates: "Not reckless. Crazy!"

"Preston, sometimes you really are crazy."

"For example?" Felix Preston raised an eyebrow, finding Evan Yates’s description novel.

Evan Yates said with a serious expression, "Like when you slapped Cecilia Quincy. Or when you knelt outside the hospital room praying for your wife. Or when you laid into those tabloid reporters!"

"Preston, I’ve known you for over a decade, and I’ve never seen you lose it like this. It’s no exaggeration to say you weren’t this crazy even when the company went bankrupt."

"Hmph," Felix Preston said with a slight smile, curling his lips. "Evan, if the company goes bankrupt, I can start over. But if something happened to my wife, in this vast world, where could I possibly find another one like her?"

"..." Evan Yates was taken aback. He suddenly understood why Felix Preston had been acting so frantic.

"Preston... That was shallow of me."

Felix Preston shook his head and patted Evan Yates’s shoulder gently. "Evan, when you find someone you truly love, you’ll understand how I feel even better."

Evan Yates pressed his lips together and nodded firmly. "Yeah!"

"Let’s go in." Felix Preston straightened his back, turned, and rang the doorbell. "Let’s hope Mr. Sutton is a bigger man and will give us another chance."

Evan Yates clenched his fist. "He will!"

...

While fate doesn’t always grant one’s wishes, it occasionally bestows a bit of good fortune upon those who work hard.

Just as Felix Preston had hoped, George Sutton proved to be a bigger man. He not only easily forgave them but also gave them another chance to make amends.

"Mr. Preston, I can certainly give you a chance, but before I do, I need you to agree to one request of mine," George Sutton said with a smile, leaning back on the sofa.

Felix Preston replied humbly, "Please, Mr. Sutton."

George Sutton: "My request is simple. I just need you to tell me the whole story, from beginning to end. Just tell me everything clearly."

"..." The request was indeed simple—so simple that Felix Preston was a bit stunned.

But he quickly composed himself and told George Sutton the whole story, from beginning to end.

When he finished listening, George Sutton’s eyes held a newfound admiration for Felix Preston.

"So that’s how it was. I never would have thought... Mr. Preston, you’re a man who truly values loyalty and relationships. I’ve been navigating the business world for decades, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen someone choose their wife over their career."

Felix Preston: "You can always fight for your career again, but you only have one wife. If anything had happened to her because I hesitated, I would never have been able to forgive myself."

"Haha..." George Sutton chuckled. "Mr. Preston, why put yourself under so much pressure? Don’t they say wives are like clothes? If you lose one, you can always find another."

"No." Felix Preston rejected his statement, his tone severe. "My wife is my life. I’ll only ever have her. If something were to happen to her, I would never allow anyone to take her place."

"Oh?" George Sutton said dismissively. "Aren’t you speaking a bit too soon, Mr. Preston? Who can say what the future holds?"

Felix Preston smiled. "I don’t need to say anything for certain. Time will prove my feelings."

"..." George Sutton stared at him, the smile on his face slowly fading.
