Chapter 196: Chapter 199: Her Biological Mother’s Backing
"What? It’s actually Sonia Quincy?"
"How could Sonia Quincy be the Shaw family’s daughter? This is unbelievable."
"The Shaw family’s biological daughter was raised by the Quincy family, but the Quincy family’s biological daughter was raised in Veridia... God, this is so complicated..."
The conference room was in an uproar, but the private hospital room was silent before the TV.
"..." Sonia Quincy stared blankly, her expression vacant, her mind a chaotic mess.
The others in the hospital room all stared at her, not daring to blink. They wanted to say something but didn’t know how to begin.
"...Sonia."
In the end, it was Felix Preston who was the first to step forward, sitting down beside Sonia.
"Sonia," he said, taking her hand, wanting to explain.
"Don’t talk yet." Sonia cut off his unspoken explanation. "Just watch the TV," she commanded.
He nodded and obediently watched the television with Sonia.
On the television screen, Jackson Shaw’s eyes were already brimming with tears.
"Sonia Quincy is the Shaw family’s youngest daughter! She is my and Brianna Bell’s biological child! She isn’t some ’fake heiress,’ and there’s nothing wrong with her character! She is my child, and she is a wonderful, wonderful person!"
Brianna Bell continued, "Some people will stop at nothing, yet they try to use their status to whitewash their actions and inflict further harm on the victim."
"I’ve always believed that being a ’fake heiress’ doesn’t make someone inferior, just as being a ’true heiress’ doesn’t make someone inherently noble. But since a certain someone thinks her status is so impressive, we can certainly compare ’status’ with her. Let’s just see who is more distinguished."
A reporter stood up, asking maliciously, "Excuse me, Mrs. Bell, when you say ’a certain someone,’ are you referring to Cecilia Quincy of the Quincy family?"
"Yes," Brianna Bell admitted without hesitation. "I am talking about her."
"My daughter put her in her place, but she couldn’t accept it. So, she hired an army of online trolls to manipulate public opinion, claiming my daughter’s ’fake heiress’ status doomed her to a life of wickedness. I simply could not tolerate it any longer, so I called this press conference to set the record straight about my daughter’s identity."
With that, Brianna Bell gave a triumphant smile. "As everyone knows, Aethelburg ranks its top ten most powerful enterprises every year, and every single year, Quincy Enterprises is crushed under the heel of Shaw Technologies. While the Shaw family is often teased for being the eternal second-place, the Quincy family is the even more pathetic, perennial third-place."
"How dare the third-place family, with their corporate power and family background so far beneath the Shaws, have the audacity to strut around so arrogantly?"
At this point, Brianna Bell felt there was no longer any need for subtlety and spoke directly to the camera. "Cecilia Quincy, when it comes to status, you aren’t fit to touch a single strand of my daughter’s hair!"
"Just hurry up, go home, and get married. Stop coming out here and making a fool of yourself."
"AHHH!!!"
"AHHHHH!!!!"
Cecilia Quincy snatched a marble figurine from the table and hurled it at the television.
CRASH!
The marble figurine slammed right into the center of the television screen. A black hole instantly bloomed where Brianna Bell’s face had been, and her image vanished.
"AHHHHH!!!"
"Impossible! This is absolutely impossible!" Cecilia Quincy’s hands were clenched into tight fists. As she screamed, her nails dug deeper and deeper into her palms.
"How is this possible? How could Sonia Quincy be the Shaw family’s biological daughter?!"
"Impossible! Sonia Quincy can’t be that lucky!"
"AHHH!!!"
"Cecilia!"
Fiona Dalton ran in from the courtyard and pulled the hysterical Cecilia into her arms.
"Cecilia, it’s all right. Even if Sonia is the Shaw family’s daughter, she won’t be able to walk all over you!"
"Lies! You’re lying!" Cecilia refused to listen. "Shaw Technologies is more powerful than the Quincy family! Once Sonia becomes the Shaw family’s daughter, she’ll walk all over me and bully me!"
"She won’t!" Fiona Dalton hugged her tighter, emphasizing loudly in her ear, "I’m here! Mom won’t let anyone bully you!"
"Mom... Mommy!" Cecilia grabbed her hand and looked up at her, a mess of tears and desperation. "Mommy, I won’t let Sonia become the Shaw family’s daughter! I won’t let her status be higher than mine!"
"I’m the only true heiress of a prominent family! It can’t be Sonia!"
Fiona Dalton said, "Cecilia, regardless of whether Sonia is the Shaw family’s daughter, her status could never be more distinguished than yours! You are the young lady of the Quincy family, the true and legitimate young lady of the Quincy family!"
"But Sonia is the true and legitimate young lady of the Shaw family! Her mother even showed the DNA test results!" Cecilia shrieked, her eyes red.
"Shaw Technologies is so powerful! Before the Lockwood Group emerged, the Shaw family was the undisputed top dog in Aethelburg! Now that Sonia is the Shaw family’s daughter, she’ll have the upper hand in everything, she’ll be more distinguished than me in every way!"
"Mom, I don’t want this! I don’t want this to happen!"
"Cecilia..." For the first time, Fiona Dalton looked troubled in front of Cecilia.
Cecilia struggled out of her mother’s embrace and, placing her hands on her back, began to push her out. "Mom, go figure something out! Find a way to stop Sonia! Don’t let her go back to the Shaw family!"
"I think you’ve lost your mind!"
Finn Quincy walked in, his eyes filled with disappointment as he looked at the hysterical Cecilia.
"Sonia is the Shaw family’s daughter. The Shaws have decided to welcome her back. What right do you have to stop them? Have you had it so easy for so long that you’ve lost your senses?!"
"Dad!" Cecilia cried. "If I don’t stop Sonia, her status will surpass mine! I can’t lose to her!"
"If you don’t want to lose to her, then try being reborn!" Finn Quincy glared at her fiercely. "Cecilia, if you think our Quincy family can’t compare to the Shaws, and that staying here is beneath you, then feel free to go find some other parents."
"Since you look down on the Quincy family, then the Quincy family has no place for you."
"Dad!" Cecilia was intimidated, and her voice instantly dropped by half.
Finn Quincy snapped, "Keep screaming and you can get out!"
"This house is chaotic enough as it is. You two, mother and daughter, stop making more trouble!"
"..." A chastened Cecilia shrank into Fiona Dalton’s arms, no longer daring to cause a scene.
"Hmph!" Finn Quincy scoffed, then turned and strode out of the house.
"Mom..." Cecilia whimpered, tugging on Fiona Dalton’s clothes and sobbing quietly in her arms.
"Sigh..." Fiona Dalton sighed, her plump, well-to-do face drooping with misery.
...
「Meanwhile, in the hospital room.」
Sonia sat dazedly by the hospital bed, her hands anxiously twisting together.
The Shaw family’s press conference had ended. Hannah Sutton told her that her parents and brother were on their way to the hospital.
She was so nervous she could barely breathe, her breath catching in her throat.
