Chapter 17: Chapter 17: I Am Also Willing to Believe in You

Sonia Quincy’s eyes widened, and she stared at him in utter confusion.

’Has he lost his mind? What is he rambling about?’

"Get away from me!" Sonia Quincy slapped Willow Quincy’s hand away. Her action made Willow’s eyes turn red. Instead of leaving, he grabbed her shoulders tightly with both hands.

"Sonia Quincy, I’m trying to save you. The person Felix Preston offended is Ethan Lockwood. He’ll never be able to get back on his feet."

"Bullshit!" Sonia Quincy stared directly into Willow Quincy’s eyes, her own gaze sharp and fierce. "I know my husband. None of you get to decide his future!"

"Willow Quincy, you’ve disliked me since we were kids. Now that I’m down on my luck, you show up saying you want to save me? Do you think I’d believe you?"

As she spoke, Sonia Quincy gritted her teeth and broke free from Willow Quincy’s grip. "I’ve already been kicked out of the Quincy Family. I have nothing to do with the family, and nothing to do with you. Go back to living your life as a young master and stop meddling in my affairs. Felix Preston is the husband I chose, and I’m happy to stand by him."

After speaking, Sonia Quincy swept back her loose hair, left Willow Quincy standing there, and turned to walk away.

Willow Quincy stared intently at her back. After she had taken a few steps, he suddenly called out to her again. "Sonia Quincy, you’re insane! Felix Preston is dirt poor, and instead of running, you still want to build a life with him!"

Sonia Quincy looked back at him, her brow furrowed slightly. "Were you eavesdropping on me?"

"Yes," Willow Quincy admitted readily.

Sonia Quincy’s lips twisted into a mocking smile. "You’re sick..."

Willow Quincy: "I’ll ask you one more time. Are you going to get an abortion and a divorce, or not?"

Sonia Quincy lightly uttered two words: "I’m not."

Willow Quincy was so angry his breathing became erratic. "Fine. This is your choice."

Sonia Quincy ignored him, turned, and walked a good distance away before hailing another cab.

It was almost five in the afternoon when she got home. Sonia Quincy sent Felix Preston a message on WeChat, asking when he would be back.

Felix Preston was probably busy, as there was no reply to her message.

Sonia Quincy rested on the sofa for a while. When she felt it was about time, she got up, went to the kitchen, and opened the refrigerator, wondering what to make for dinner.

BUZZ BUZZ—

She had just taken the ingredients out of the fridge when Mina Jennings sent her several pages of collaboration details.

She was so engrossed in reading the details while trimming the vegetables that she didn’t even notice Felix Preston had come home.

"What are you looking at?" Felix Preston asked curiously, placing a clean insulated container on the kitchen counter.

"Huh?" Sonia Quincy slowly snapped out of it and turned to look at Felix Preston beside her, a wide smile instantly spreading across her face.

"You’re back! Did the meeting about the collaboration go well?"

Felix Preston nodded, the corners of his lips turning up in a gentle smile, his eyes soft. "It went very well. I’ve made contact with people from the Sinclair Group. In a few days, after I rush to finish the detailed proposal and send it over, I’ll be able to compete for the first round of projects."

"Oh..." Sonia Quincy didn’t really understand these project matters and couldn’t offer any professional insights, so she could only offer encouragement. "Well, keep up the great work. I’m sure you’ll have no problem."

"Thanks." Felix Preston smiled politely. After pausing for a few seconds, he asked his earlier question again. "So, what were you looking at?"

Sonia Quincy openly pushed her phone in front of him. "A contract. I interviewed for a customer service job today, and after considering it all afternoon, the studio decided to hire me. Starting tomorrow, I’ll be an employed woman."

"Customer service?" Felix Preston picked up Sonia Quincy’s phone. Looking at the non-disclosure agreement on the screen, he subconsciously asked a series of questions.

"Which studio’s customer service? What do they sell? Do they know you’re pregnant?"

Sonia Quincy answered each question patiently. "The studio is called Blue, and it specializes in jewelry and accessories that young people like. The person who interviewed me is the studio’s owner, and I told her I was pregnant right when we met. She was very understanding and assigned me a work-from-home customer service position."

"This way, I don’t have to go to the office to clock in. I can just work from home on my computer."

"That’s great, isn’t it?" Felix Preston scanned through the NDA and, seeing no red flags, handed the phone back to Sonia Quincy. Out of the corner of her eye, Sonia had been watching his every move. Seeing that he didn’t exit the contract to look at anything else, her tense heart finally relaxed a little.

"Yeah," she said, turning off the screen and putting her phone away. With a calm expression, she spun her tale: "The studio owner saw I was pregnant and still looking for a job, so she immediately guessed that my family was having financial difficulties. As one woman to another, she wanted to help me out, so she made an exception to hire me and even gave me a special position."

"I see," Felix Preston said after washing his hands. He walked over to Sonia Quincy’s side and started helping her trim the vegetables. "So you went to the coffee shop today for the job interview?"

Sonia Quincy: "That’s right."

"Okay." Felix Preston believed her. After that, he didn’t ask any more questions, only saying, "You’re pregnant, so you have to take care of yourself. If you feel tired or unhappy with the work, just quit immediately. Besides the research project, Evan Yates and I have taken on other odd jobs to make money. I can support you and the baby. You don’t have to work so hard."

Hearing this, Sonia Quincy was stunned. ’Felix Preston... he believed me that easily?’

She raised her head and studied the man beside her. He wore a pair of frameless, silver-rimmed glasses that rested on the high bridge of his nose, adding a touch of gentleness to his handsome, cool profile.

His head was lowered, focused on carefully trimming the vegetables in the basket. He exuded a comforting, husbandly aura.

"I... I was at the coffee shop for a long time today. Aren’t you afraid that everything I just said was a lie?" she asked tentatively, staring at Felix Preston’s eyes behind his lenses.

"Not at all," Felix Preston answered, his reply both frank and simple. "You’re willing to believe in me, so I’m willing to believe in you."

"..." Sonia Quincy’s heart skipped a beat, as if it had been struck by something heavy. She opened her mouth, originally intending to say something in agreement, but the words that came out were completely different.

"You pulled an all-nighter. You even have dark circles under your eyes. Stop trimming vegetables and go to the bedroom to get some sleep. I’ll call you when dinner is ready."

Felix Preston: "It’s fine, I’m not in a rush. I’ll help you cook, and once we’re done eating, I’ll go... YAWN..."

Before he could finish his tough-guy act, Felix Preston let out a huge yawn, and involuntary tears streamed from the corners of his eyes.

"..." Sonia Quincy stared at him blankly.

He took off his glasses with one hand, wiping his tears while turning his head to peek at Sonia Quincy.

"..."

The moment their eyes met, they both burst out laughing.

"Still trying to act tough when you’re this exhausted?" Sonia Quincy sighed helplessly and pushed Felix Preston’s back, shooing him right out of the kitchen.

"Go get some sleep. I’m a slow cook, so you can get at least an hour of rest."

"Alright, then." Felix Preston didn’t insist. "I’ll leave it to you, then. I’ll do the dishes after we eat."

Sonia Quincy: "Okay."

Felix Preston obediently went into the bedroom, but he didn’t stay there to rest. Instead, he came out carrying his pillow and blanket and skillfully made a bed on the sofa.

"You... you’re still sleeping on the sofa?" Sonia Quincy asked, surprised.
