Chapter 108: Chapter 109: Sonia Quincy Has Gone Mad, Frightening Everyone
"Wh-what is all this?" Mrs. Preston put down her chopsticks and stood up from the sofa, looking bewilderedly at the three menacing figures at the door. "What kind of scene are you making here? This is my son’s hospital room!"
"What kind of scene are *we* making? Hmph," Fiona Dalton sneered caustically. "You should be asking your precious daughter-in-law that question."
Mrs. Preston frowned. "Why should I ask Sonia? You’re the ones causing trouble, not her. Why are you trying to pin the blame on Sonia?"
"...What do you mean, ’pin the blame on her’?" Fiona Dalton was not happy to hear that. She grabbed Cecilia Quincy’s arm, yanked her forward, and pointed a finger at Sonia Quincy, who was slowly and deliberately clearing the tableware on the sofa. "Miss Preston," she said, her voice filled with uncontrollable rage, "Sonia brought this on herself! Why don’t you turn around and ask her what kind of vile things she said when she ran into Cecilia in the elevator yesterday?"
"She lived with our Quincy Family for twenty years, for crying out loud! She hears her own brother is injured and in the hospital, and not only does she not visit, she actually curses him! Is she even human? She’s an absolute animal!"
"Sonia Quincy," Cecilia Quincy said, standing to the side with red-rimmed eyes. Though she looked quite aggrieved, she still held her back ramrod straight.
"I know you hate me. I know you don’t like me. But I only told you about my brother being injured and hospitalized because I wanted you to reconnect with the family and try to mend our relationship. But what did you do? It’s one thing not to appreciate the gesture, but to go and curse my brother? Don’t you know he’s still in a coma? Even the doctors don’t know when he’ll wake up!"
As Cecilia Quincy spoke, she worked herself up until she was crying. She wiped away a tear and looked at Sonia Quincy with a face full of sorrow. "Sonia, you went too far this time. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have tattled to Mom and Dad."
"Cecilia..." Fiona Dalton’s eyes grew misty as she listened, her heart aching as if it were about to break.
"Cecilia, my sweet girl, you don’t have to explain anything to her. For an ungrateful wretch like her, you should tattle on her eight hundred times a day! Let her learn the lesson she deserves!"
The mother-daughter duo worked in perfect sync, one playing good cop, the other bad cop, as they tore Sonia down until she seemed worthless.
Mrs. Preston couldn’t stand it any longer and cut in sarcastically, "Listen here, you two. This is my son’s hospital room. I’ll thank you to watch your filthy mouths. If you don’t know how to speak like decent human beings, you can go outside and learn before you come back."
"Hey... what’s that supposed to mean?" Suddenly berated, Fiona Dalton’s face darkened. "Your family..."
"Get out."
Sonia Quincy, who had been silent the whole time, finally spoke. Though she had only uttered two soft words, the chilling indifference within them made both Fiona Dalton and Cecilia Quincy shudder.
Cecilia Quincy’s brow furrowed. She stepped in front of Fiona Dalton protectively and glared at Sonia. "Sonia, is that any way to speak to Mom? Have you no sense of propriety or respect for your elders?"
Sonia Quincy rose from the sofa, holding her belly as she slowly walked toward the door. Just as Cecilia had wished, she added a bit of "propriety" to her words. "Get the hell out! Crawl back to whatever hole you came from!"
Cecilia was shocked. "Sonia, you—"
"Out!"
Sonia repeated the word, walking alone to face this disgusting family of three. "All of you, get out. If you have something to say, say it outside the door."
Fiona Dalton, furious at being cursed out, planted her stout body forward and said belligerently, "I refuse to leave! I’m going to expose his wife’s true, venomous nature right here in Felix Preston’s hospital room!"
Sonia couldn’t be bothered to argue with her. Seeing that Fiona was determined not to leave, she simply started to physically push them out. "Out! All of you, get out!"
Fiona Dalton, completely disregarding the fact that Sonia was pregnant, pulled her arm free and shoved her on the shoulder. "Sonia Quincy, you dare lay a hand on me again?"
Sonia stumbled back a few steps, lost her footing, and nearly fell to the ground. Fortunately, Mrs. Preston rushed over and caught her just in time, helping her steady herself.
Mr. Quincy, who had been hiding outside the door without a word, took two steps forward at the sight, looking as if he wanted to help Sonia up.
But Sonia didn’t even spare him a glance.
"Fiona Dalton." Sonia clutched her stomach protectively, her gaze fixed on Fiona, a slightly crazed smile playing on her lips.
"If you’re not afraid of having two lives on your conscience, then by all means, keep making a scene at Felix Preston’s door."
"Wh-what do you mean?" Fiona Dalton didn’t quite understand what Sonia was saying.
Sonia’s lip curled into a sinister smile. "I mean, if you keep shouting and disturbing Felix Preston’s rest, I’ll take this child and smash my head against you until I’m dead! I’ll make you a murderer. I’ll make your son, Willow Quincy, suffer the consequences of your actions, and he’ll be trapped in his coma, never to wake up again."
"You..." Fiona Dalton’s eyes widened, genuinely terrified by Sonia’s madness.
Sonia’s smile grew wider, more joyful. "Didn’t you call me venomous? The more venomous a person is, the more troublesome their ghost becomes. If you’re not afraid of my ghost haunting Willow Quincy and dragging his life away, then by all means, keep making a scene."
"A-are you insane?" Fiona Dalton had always been domineering, but this was the first time she’d ever been threatened by a madwoman like Sonia.
Sonia raised an eyebrow. "Don’t believe me? Why don’t you test me? See if I dare to die right in front of you and haunt your son for the rest of his life."
Fiona Dalton: "You—"
"Mom, let’s just go outside for now." Cecilia Quincy was the first to lose her nerve, grabbing Fiona Dalton’s arm and trying to drag her out. "Sonia has completely lost her mind. You can’t reason with a lunatic."
Fiona Dalton was unwilling to back down, but she was also genuinely afraid Sonia might do something terrifying right in front of her, so she had no choice but to let Cecilia pull her out.
The nauseating people finally left the room. The crazed look on Sonia’s face instantly faded by half.
She gently patted Mrs. Preston’s hand, which was still supporting her, and advised in a relatively gentle tone, "Mom, you stay in here with Felix. I’ll go out and handle them myself."
Mrs. Preston was worried. "Sonia, there are three of them, and it’s obvious they came here specifically to target you. How can you go alone? I’ll go with you."
"There’s no need." Sonia smiled at her and said softly, "Just stay with Felix. He needs someone with him more right now."
Without waiting for Mrs. Preston’s reply, she walked straight out of the hospital room, pulling the door closed behind her.
CLICK. With that sound, Felix Preston was securely shielded behind her.
She faced the three maniacs from the Quincy Family alone, yet her face showed not a trace of fear or guilt.
Fiona Dalton didn’t beat around the bush. The moment Sonia was standing steadily, she pointed a finger in her face and demanded, "Sonia Quincy, when you ran into Cecilia in the elevator last night, did you or did you not curse Willow?"
Cecilia Quincy tilted her chin up arrogantly, waiting for Sonia to be judged.
But Sonia answered with perfect composure, "Yes, I cursed him."
"Why?" Fiona Dalton raged. "You knew Willow was seriously injured, and yet you still cursed him. What are your intentions?"
Sonia: "My intention was for him to die."
"You—" Sonia’s calm, blunt admission was completely beyond Fiona Dalton’s expectations. Fiona suddenly choked, at a loss for how to retaliate.
In the end, it was Cecilia Quincy who stepped forward. "What did my brother ever do to you? What right do you have to curse him to die?"
Sonia: "I curse him because I feel like it."
"..." Cecilia Quincy’s mouth fell open in horror. "You curse him because you feel like it? Then does that mean I can curse Felix Preston right to your face? Does that mean I can curse Felix Preston to die an early death?"
