Chapter 16: Episode 016: Meeting with the Sisters.
"Why do you think your Queen wants to see me?"
Rue asked as she slowly put her head out the carriage window. The wooden wheels were loud on the dirt road. She had to speak up so Caius could hear her. He was standing right beside the carriage window, though.
Caius just shrugged. He looked completely bored. He was actually a little angry. His quiet morning time with Rue was cut short by a random royal guard. That was highly annoying.
I actually wanted to see if I could take her again....
’What are you thinking, Caius... she is pregnant!’
He groaned internally.
But it wasn’t an entirely bad morning. He got to see her in a brand new dress. It was a soft pink dress. He finally figured out the exact colours that suited her pale skin best. She even styled her silver hair into two neat pigtails. He couldn’t get over the sight. It was driving him absolutely crazy.
If it were up to him, he’d lock her inside their new wooden cabin. He’d never let her out until their little hatchlings were running everywhere. That was a solid plan.
"Is she a nice person?" Rue asked, snapping him out of his possessive thoughts.
Caius chuckled. The dark sound vibrated deep in his massive chest. "It’s not her you should be scared of, little bunny. It’s her sisters."
Rue frowned. She stared at his broad back. She didn’t understand what that meant. How scary could they really be?
She finally understood when they arrived at the palace.
The building was massive. And she was currently trapped inside it with three very tall women surrounding her completely. They didn’t give her an inch of breathing room.
One woman was incredibly beautiful. She had wavy black hair and bright purple eyes. She carried the distinct aura of a literal saint. Another was Gianna. The princess still had her loud energy, bright green hair, and green eyes. The third woman was also striking. She had sleek black hair and hard, black beaded eyes that looked right through people.
Rue felt incredibly small in the middle of them. She was a single bunny in a room full of apex predators.
Should I say hi?
She flashed them a wry smile to avoid feeling suffocated.
"Oh my gods, she’s so cute!" the purple-eyed saint squealed. She clasped her hands together.
"I’m cuter," Gianna stated flatly. She crossed her arms.
"She looks so soft, too," the black-eyed woman added. She reached a hand out to poke Rue’s cheek.
Rue reacted on pure instinct. She didn’t like being poked. She slapped the woman’s hand away. It was a sharp smack. She let out a soft, highly awkward laugh right after doing it, realising she just hit royalty.
The woman didn’t get angry. Her face actually lit up like a Christmas tree. "She’s as feisty as mum."
Before Rue could process that statement, the woman lunged. She pulled Rue into a massive, inescapable hug. She completely squished Rue’s face against her large breasts. Rue couldn’t breathe. The air was entirely gone.
"Caius!" the saint shouted across the grand room. "How could you get this cute little one pregnant? Can she even handle it?"
Caius didn’t look apologetic at all. He actually struggled to hold back a loud laugh. He was actively reading Rue’s mind through the mate bond.
Get me out of here. She’s crushing my ribs. Help me. I’m going to suffocate.
Rue threw him a desperate glare from over the woman’s arm.
"You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?" a new voice cut through the noise.
Caius straightened his spine immediately. His amusement vanished like smoke.
Tanith stood near the elevated throne. The basilisk queen looked down at her sisters. "Let her go."
The black-eyed woman immediately stopped being handsy. She dropped her arms and stepped back. All three sisters moved to Tanith’s side like obedient soldiers. They sat down at a very large, polished meeting table.
Rue scrambled backwards. She ran straight to Caius and hid right behind his large, protective frame.
"I can’t help but say that you really hit the jackpot," the saint said. She smiled sweetly at Caius. "She’s a beautiful mate."
"Even Gianna doesn’t stand a chance," the black-eyed woman added with a smirk.
Gianna slammed her hands onto the heavy desk. Her green eyes flashed.
"Gia," Tanith warned softly.
One single look from the basilisk queen and they all piped down instantly. Rue watched the exchange closely from behind Caius. Tanith was literally the boss here. She held all the power. The purple-eyed saint was the mother hen. She was the only one who could openly support or calm Tanith down. The other two were the chaotic younger siblings.
Rue was so keen on studying the sisters that she missed the warning signs completely.
Caius scooped her up in one smooth, fluid motion, sat down in a large wooden chair and placed her directly onto his lap.
Rue froze completely solid. She turned her head to look at his sharp jawline.
"Caius," Rue whispered through her teeth. "I can just sit down next to you. There are empty chairs."
He tightened his thick arms around her waist. He trapped her there. Her face instantly flamed hot.
"Do you want them to see how undone I am for you?" Caius whispered back. His tone was low, rough, and incredibly delicious.
Rue’s face turned beet red. She felt something distinctly hard poking against her thigh. He wasn’t joking. She squeezed her eyes shut.
He’s ridiculous. Everything’s ridiculous.
She raised her head to find all four royal females staring at her with wide, highly curious eyes. They definitely saw the whole interaction.
Rue waved a small hand at them to distract them. Definitely thinking of where she could dig a small hole to bury herself. "Please carry on with what you wanted to say."
Tanith chuckled. It was a very rare sight. The ice Queen actually found her funny.
"I’m Tanith," the queen started. "Ruler of the Swamps." She pointed to the purple-eyed woman sitting to her right. "This is Iris. The Alpha Mother of the Snow Forest." She pointed to the black-eyed woman. "That’s Tyara. Queen of the City of Gold. The Kingdom of the White Tigers."
Tanith looked at the green-haired girl pouting at the end of the table. "And you already know Gianna. Princess of the Swamps."
Hearing her name, Gianna snapped her head away. She lifted her chin in absolute pride and refused to look at Rue.
Rue felt a weird, unexpected warmth in her chest. She actually chuckled. She felt like Gianna was just playing the part of the cute, grumpy sibling. It wasn’t threatening at all.
She reminds me of my little Zino, my cat.
"From this day onward, you can consider us your sisters," Tanith declared smoothly. Her voice carried heavy weight. "Fate brought you to us. If you need anything, even absolute power, we’ll give it to you."
Rue scratched the back of her neck. This was a lot to process. Surprisingly, Gianna didn’t object to the sister comment at all. She kept her mouth shut and stared at the wall.
Rue decided she had to return the gesture. She definitely didn’t appreciate this many powerful people knowing her business, but she had to be polite to the royalty. It was basic survival.
"I’m Rue," she started. She paused. She so badly wanted to say she was Rue Rossi. She wanted to claim the human name from a life that ended alone. But she remembered the reality. She was no longer Rue Rossi. That girl died. "I’m Rue of the Rabbit Tribe."
Iris smiled warmly. Her purple eyes shone. "It’s so nice to meet you, Rue. Whenever you need a shelter, or if Caius bothers you too much, the Snow Forest will always welcome you. Everywhere you go, as long as you mention your name, you’ll be allowed in."
Rue flushed a light pink. She was slightly embarrassed. They were going to absolute extremes for a rabbit they had just met. It didn’t make logical sense.
"But why?" Rue asked. Her voice came out smaller than she intended. She looked at the four powerful women. "I’m just an insignificant rabbit. I’m not worth wasting time on. I could die in mere seconds right here, and it wouldn’t even matter to the world."
A low, violent, vibrating growl erupted from Caius’s chest. It rumbled against Rue’s back. It startled her completely. He hated it when she talked about dying.
But I was saying the truth. frёewebnoѵēl.com
Life is insignificant.
The other females tightened their expressions. The easy, welcoming smiles vanished, and the room finally felt colder than it was originally. Even Iris wasn’t taking that statement lightly. The saint’s purple eyes turned hard and serious.
Iris placed her hands flat on the heavy wooden table. She looked at her sisters.
"Tanith," Iris said quietly. "Shall we speak to our little doe alone?"
Everyone turned to look at Iris. Tyara and Gianna looked highly confused by the sudden request.
"Only I, Tanith, and little Rue,"
