Chapter 517: Episode 515: Terrifying Husbands
Roxy took the silver tablet from Mr. Dune’s shaking hands.
She looked down at the bright, glowing screen. She expected to see a security video of someone trying to hop over their tall iron gates, or maybe a fire somewhere on the mountain. Instead, the screen was completely filled with bright red "BREAKING NEWS" banners from human television channels.
Roxy quickly scrolled through the headlines.
Massive Underground Crime Ring Exposed Overnight! Corrupt Billionaire CEO Files for Sudden Bankruptcy! New York’s Biggest Mafia Boss Found Tied Up Outside Police Station! Stock Market Crashes for Three Major Tech Companies!
Roxy blinked, her green eyes scanning the wild news reports. It looked like the entire criminal underworld of New York City was completely falling apart all at the exact same time.
"I don’t understand," Roxy said, looking up at the giant, terrified security guard. "What does this have to do with us?"
Mr. Dune wiped a drop of nervous sweat off his forehead. He pointed a thick, shaking finger at the tablet.
"It’s them, Madam," Mr. Dune breathed heavily. "It’s your husbands. They aren’t just going to the city to make normal money. They are completely, ruthlessly dismantling the criminal empires of New York."
Lira gasped from the couch, her hands flying up to cover her mouth.
"Mr. Syris is freezing bank accounts and taking down the dirtiest, meanest billionaires in the city," Dune explained, talking incredibly fast. "Mr. Zarek and the others are physically going into the worst, most dangerous neighborhoods and clearing out the gangs. They are ripping the city’s bad guys to shreds! It’s a total bloodbath on Wall Street and in the streets!"
Roxy stared at him. She finally understood.
Her husbands weren’t just working a boring office job. They were completely cleaning up the city. They were destroying every single bad guy, every single corrupt boss, and every single dangerous criminal so that nobody could ever, ever threaten Roxy again. They were making sure her new world was perfectly safe.
It was an absolutely terrifying display of their power in the human world.
"Madam, this is way too dangerous!" Mr. Dune panicked, looking out the big glass windows toward the forest. "They are picking fights with the scariest people on Earth! What if those criminals decide to fight back? What if they find out where we live and come for them? What if they come up the mountain? I need to call for backup. I need fifty more guards out there right now!"
Mr. Dune, a huge, tough military veteran who had fought in real wars, was practically shaking in his heavy black boots.
Roxy looked at his panicked face. She looked at the tablet showing the "scary" human criminals in handcuffs. She thought about her husbands—six giant, magical apex predators who used to fight fifty-foot-tall shadow monsters and giant dragons for fun.
And suddenly, Roxy couldn’t hold it in anymore.
She started to laugh.
It wasn’t a small, polite giggle. Roxy tipped her head back and let out a loud, beautiful, totally genuine laugh. It bubbled up from her chest and echoed warmly through the fancy sitting room.
Mr. Dune stopped panicking. He froze, staring at her like she had suddenly grown a second head. Lira looked just as confused, sitting stiffly on the soft couch.
"Madam?" Mr. Dune asked, totally bewildered. "Why are you laughing? This is a serious threat!"
"Oh, Dune," Roxy smiled, wiping a happy tear from the corner of her eye. She handed the silver tablet back to the giant, terrified guard. "You are overreacting. You really don’t need to call for backup."
"But the mafia—"
"The mafia is nothing," Roxy brushed him off, waving her hand casually in the air. "I know my husbands better than anyone. They are not in any danger. I promise you, Dune, even if a thousand angry humans marched up this mountain with heavy guns, they would never, ever defeat them. My husbands would probably just be annoyed that they were late for dinner."
Mr. Dune blinked his eyes, completely lost for words. He didn’t know the Kings were magical beasts, but the absolute, totally unbreakable confidence in Roxy’s voice made him stop shaking.
He slowly nodded his head. "If... if you are sure, Madam."
"I am completely sure. You can go back to your post, Dune. Everything is perfectly fine," Roxy smiled warmly.
The big security guard bowed his head respectfully and walked out of the room, still looking a little bit confused, but his panic was gone.
When the heavy wooden doors clicked shut, Lira leaned forward on the couch. The sweet human girl looked very nervous. She twisted the belt of her fluffy white robe around her fingers.
"Are you sure, Roxy?" Lira asked quietly, her big brown eyes full of worry. "Those news reports looked really scary. They are fighting some really bad people down there."
Roxy turned around to face her best friend. The soft, sweet smile on her face slowly changed.
Her green eyes darkened with pure, ancient power. She stood a little taller. For the very first time, Roxy fully realized who she was in this new world. She wasn’t just a rich girl living in a big house. She wasn’t just a spoiled wife getting shiny pearl necklaces on a Tuesday.
Her husbands were conquering an entire city just for her. They were tearing down the bad guys and building a brand-new kingdom. She was the absolute Queen of a newly conquered city.
Roxy gave Lira a dark, beautiful, highly confident smile.
"Do you doubt your friend?" Roxy purred smoothly.
Lira stared at Roxy’s fierce, glowing face. The nervous worry completely vanished from Lira’s chest. She shook her head quickly, a huge smile breaking out across her face. "No. I don’t doubt you at all."
Later that evening, the sun finally went down behind the tall pine trees.
Lira had hugged Roxy goodbye and climbed back into the armored black car to go back to her apartment. The giant mansion was quiet, peaceful, and warm.
Roxy was in the massive, formal dining room. The private chefs had cooked an incredible, huge feast. There were giant silver platters loaded with thick, juicy steaks, roasted potatoes, fresh green vegetables, and warm, buttery bread.
Just as the grandfather clock in the hallway chimed loudly, the heavy oak front doors of the mansion pushed open.
The Kings were home.
Roxy walked out of the dining room into the grand entryway. The six men stepped inside, completely filling the space with their massive, terrifying presence.
They didn’t look like businessmen anymore. They looked like absolute, terrifying mafia bosses who had just won a massive, bloody war.
Torian groaned happily, ripping his dark silk tie off his neck and tossing it onto a small table. Kaelen cracked his neck loudly, rolling his broad shoulders to loosen his stiff muscles. Ren and Caspian looked completely exhausted but totally calm. Syris was typing one final, fast message on his black phone before turning it completely off and sliding it into his pocket.
They were taking off their expensive, dark suit jackets, revealing the tight, crisp dress shirts underneath that stretched over their huge muscles. They brought the cold, sharp smell of the city night air inside with them, mixed with a dark, dangerous energy.
"Welcome home," Roxy smiled brightly.
The dangerous energy instantly melted away the absolute second they heard her voice. The cold, scary mafia bosses completely vanished, replaced by six totally devoted, loving husbands.
"Hello, my heart," Zarek rumbled.
The Dragon King walked right up to her. He didn’t look tired at all. He looked powerful, proud, and incredibly hungry. He followed her into the warm dining room, sitting down at the head of the massive, long wooden table.
Roxy stood right beside his chair. She picked up a heavy silver spoon and gently scooped a large serving of hot, roasted potatoes onto his clean white plate, helping him with his food exactly the way he liked it. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
Zarek watched her carefully. He reached his large, calloused hand up and slowly wiped a tiny, almost invisible speck of gray dust off his bruised knuckles. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
He had spent the entire day tearing down the worst criminals in the city, but right now, his bright golden eyes were focused entirely on her. They were burning with a deep, heavy, unbelievable heat.
Zarek reached out and gently grabbed her wrist, stopping her from putting the silver spoon down.
He pulled her hand toward his mouth and pressed a hot, slow kiss right to her pulse point. His golden eyes locked onto her green ones, completely ignoring the giant feast sitting on the table in front of him.
"Everything is settled," Zarek whispered. His deep, vibrating voice sent a sudden, massive shiver of heat straight down Roxy’s spine. "The city is officially secured. No one will ever bother us again. Now... we have an entire week just for you."
