Chapter 8: The Six Wills

As the body of the Bloodfang wolf hit the ground, they all felt it, the slight tremble beneath their feet.

Rentaro blinked, then glanced at his fist. He felt it, the bones of the wolf shattering the moment his fist made contact, its internal organs shifting and imploding from within.

It was dead before it even hit the ground!

[You have slain a Bloodfang wolf!]

[You have gained one Evolution point!]

"Whoa..." The Bloodfang Wolves were just D-tier beasts. And by default, Awakeners who were lucky enough to obtain a Soul-Shard fell under the Early Stage rank.

In the Sanctuary, Awakeners have ten ranks, ranked from bottom to top — Grade zero, Grade one, Grade two, Grade three, Grade four, all the way to Grade nine.

Each grade was considered a big realm on its own because the power difference between Grade one and two is unimaginably high, however each grade was divided into four stages — The early stage, the intermediate stage, the upper stage and the peak stage.

These were the four stages an Awakener needed to evolve beyond to attain the next Grade.

Additionally, by crossing the threshold of the Peak Stage of Grade Zero, an Awakener automatically becomes a Soul-Hunter.

The Bloodfang Wolves, being D-tier beasts, were comparable to Awakeners within the rank of Grade 0 Early Stage, in other words, they were a rank below or at the same as the five awakeners.

However, because of the Nexus Code, Rentaro’s limitations were breached, transforming his physical attributes of an early stage awakener, to the Upper Stage.

"It really is God-Tier..."

"Rentaro!" Eliza’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts, and he turned around immediately as two Bloodfang Wolves charged at him.

"I still don’t understand my Class ability, but at least for now, this will have to do!"

Rentaro slowly curled his fingers into a tight fist, his muscles tensing as he stepped forward. In one swift motion, he struck. His fist slammed into the first wolf’s stomach, the impact deep and heavy, forcing the air out of it as its body bent around the blow.

Without stopping, he pivoted his foot and turned around before driving another punch into the second wolf’s head.

The force behind his attacks was overwhelming. Both wolves were lifted off their feet as if they weighed nothing, their bodies flung through the air like broken dolls. And they crashed to the ground moments later, unmoving, their lives snuffed out in an instant.

His teammates watched with a grim expression on their face, but after a few seconds of silence, a grin curled up the side of Timmy’s lips. freewēbnoveℓ.com

"Alright!" The excitement was pure and genuine, not just because their survival was a bit guaranteed, but because he felt challenged.

"We can’t let him be the only one shining here! Let’s kick it up a notch!"

Like the gears of a machine, the moment Timmy charged forward, the rest of the team followed behind him.

"Severing Slice!" His body turned like a rotating cutter, both swords cutting wide arcs through the air. The blades passed cleanly through the stomachs of multiple Bloodfang Wolves that stood in his path.

The rest of the team did not relent, Jake trapped multiple wolves in his energy dome, then compressed it into a tiny, circular cubicle, crushing them at once.

Eliza channeled her energy into her hands, then released a massive torrent of flame energy that burnt the wolves to a crisp.

Then Alexa stayed a few feet away from them, tending to the injuries they sustained.

[You have slain a Bloodfang Wolf!]

[You have Slain a Bloodfang Wolf!]

[You have Slain a Bloodfang Wolf!]

The notifications kept flooding in, and after thirty minutes, they all received the same notification.

[You have leveled up!]

[You have gained one Evolution point!]

[Your strength has increased by 1!]

[Your agility has increased by 1!]

[Your stamina has increased by 1!]

Staring at the numerous notification panels that kept pouring in one after another, Rentaro felt a great sense of ease settling in his chest. Despite the odds, things were actually going better than expected.

"Yes! We leveled up!" Timmy shouted with joy, they all moved to the next level faster than expected.

"Well, that’s enough." Eliza glanced over her shoulders, staring at the vast red lands beyond the bushes the Bloodfang Wolves emerged from. Despite their achievements in thirty minutes, she didn’t seem as excited as the others, especially since leveling up in the sanctuary was difficult.

"We should head back." They managed to clear out a territory owned by multiple Bloodfang Wolves, but one thing was for certain. The beasts that lay hidden beyond the Bloodfang Wolves territory were also D-tier.

They nodded in agreement, then turned around and left for the base.

They understood. The D-tier Bloodfang Wolves were easy to kill, and after spending thirty minutes wiping them out, it was obvious they weren’t going to be enough to level up again.

They arrived back at the base, and the two guards that authorized their request to hunt stared at them in disbelief.

"You’re... back?"

They exchanged quick glances, then stared right back at them.

Only thirty minutes out of one hour had passed since they left the base, and they were already back? By the dried blood that cloaked their skin, and the wide grin on Timmy’s face, it wasn’t because they ran away or gave up.

They actually cleared out the Bloodfang Wolves territory.

The Bloodfang territory and other territories that stretched out beyond it served as training to the new Awakeners. They of course had the option to go after the Soul Fragment, but that was suicide.

Without the experience and strength to slay these beasts, they’d die a horrific death.

The sturdy gates opened for them, and they were let back into the courtyard.

"We’ll take a short break before we gather at the main gates and move out into the first trial. Until then, it’s better we prepare as much as we can, because there is no going back once we leave." Eliza said calmly.

Her purpose for training was to get the team to familiarize with each other, and their flawless coordination and teamwork achieved just that.

They all nodded in agreement, then the two girls went their separate ways.

"Dude!" Timmy called out to Rentaro with a bright smile. "What was that!? I thought you belonged to the warrior class?"

"He’s right." Jake stepped forward, with a calm and quiet expression, unlike his hyperactive teammate. "That strength and power cannot belong to an Awakener of the warrior class, especially one at the early stage. It’s more suited to the Beast Will Class."

"The beast will class?"

"That’s right. I’m not sure if you’re aware, but skills and abilities are categorized into different classes, and there are six of them. The Knight Will Class, the Guardian Will Class, the Support Will Class, the Elemental Will Class, the Beast Will Class and finally, the Conqueror’s Will Class. Your ability fits the Beast Will Class rather than the Warriors’ will, regardless it’s quite impressive."

"The Beast Will huh." Rentaro stared at his hands, he knew very well that wasn’t the case, and it was only because of his heightened attributes.

’Those beasts were just D-tier, so to them, my strength looked and felt like that of Hercules. If I’m going to survive in this place, I need to grow stronger, and I need to master my class ability.’

"YOU! IT’S YOUR FAULT! IT’S ALL YOUR FAULT!"

A loud voice suddenly rang out across the entire courtyard, sharp and powerful, and it made all three of them flinch in surprise.

They quickly turned around, then Rentaro’s face fell the moment he saw who it was — A large man, his expression twisted with anger, walking straight towards them.

It was Alex.
