The notifications kept flooding in one after another, and weakly, Rentaro gasped heavily for air, the remaining Soul-Energy he managed to build back up all in the space of merely 7 to 12 hours, was almost used up by the Heaven’s Authority.
[By your power you crushed the might of the Supreme General, the moment it knelt before you, your authority over it became absolute. And now by the laws of conquest, its arsenal recognized the stronger sovereign.]

"Mahashima’s... Claw?" Rentaro knew defeating the Supreme General would bring unimaginable rewards worthy of such a monster. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
But as he stared at the description of the daggers in his inventory, a chill ran through him.
He had expected a new skill, maybe even more evolution points, but instead he got the supreme general’s weapon divided into two potentially powerful weapons.
"Fifty two evolution points?" He stared at the bottom of his status panel, and saw his evolution points. They kept rising and rising since he ascended the first trial.
"What can I do with evolution points?" He stared hard at the evolution points panel.
"If I recall correctly, the vice captain of the 1st Soul-Squad said that evolution points were naturally required for forming a Soul-Shard, and Soul-Shards are the parts of a Soul-Core. Even after using the God-Tier proficiency returns to evolve my Soul-Shard, it crafted just 5% of my Soul-Core. Crafting the Soul-Core is much more difficult than I imagined, no wonder the vice captain said our focus for now shouldn’t be about ascending the trials, but becoming a Soul-Hunter."
He glanced up at his physical stats, there were three ways evolution points can be used in the sanctuary. The first way, which is what all awakeners and Soul-Hunters do, is to convert it into a Soul-Shard to further develop their Soul-Core.
The second way, to increase an Awakener’s physical stats. It wasn’t convenient because in the sanctuary, physical strength was necessary, but having a more developed Soul-Core heightened your chances of survival.
And lastly, evolution points served as currency in the sanctuary. Dollars, pounds, they all became useless in the sanctuary. Evolution points served as a means of exchange in the sanctuary because of the unique value it held, in some cases, lives were spared in exchange for evolution points.
The bottom line was, the deciding factor for anyone in the sanctuary was how much evolution points they had gained and used since they arrived in the sanctuary.
"I passed the 2nd trial of the Sanctuary, as well as the examiner’s special option, which means I’ll be ascending to the fifth trial of the sanctuary in a few moments."
He contemplated the three options. On one hand, he needed to increase his physical attributes, after his standstill with the Supreme General Mahashima, it was obvious his current strength wouldn’t take him far once he ascended.
On the other hand, his Soul-Core right now was only at 5%, that explained why he only had two abilities specific to his class. And that’s where the problem was.
The two class specific abilities he gained, were both demanding extraordinarily from a mere mortal.
Then his last contemplation, food.
There was no going back to the real world unless the Sanctuary was cleared, so till they all ascended and cleared all levels of the sanctuary, they’d be stuck here.
Not only would they have to constantly fight to survive the inhumane threats the Sanctuary threw at them each chance it got, but they’d also have to battle against starvation.
After taking all these into consideration, he decided on the only option that sounded right to him.
"Convert 35 evolution points into a Soul-Shard." He said firmly.
By naturally increasing your Soul-Core, an Awakener’s attributes increase as his body adjusts to accept the increased Soul-Energy, so there was no need in wasting evolution points on physical attributes.
He intended to use the remaining 17 evolution points as the currency, if that speculation was going to be possible.
"Alright then." He paused.
His eyes slowly moved across the battlefield, landing on the unconscious bodies of his teammates scattered among the ruins.
Then his gaze stopped on Jake’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood, a hollow hole torn through his chest where his heart had once been.
He felt a slight ache in his chest as he looked at Jake’s body.
It may have been brief, and they might not have known each other that well, but they had fought together, survived together, and for a moment, the sight of his death stirred something within him.
But the feeling quickly faded beneath the harsh reality he faced. In this place, survival was everything.
Anyone who failed to survive would never have the chance to ascend through the remaining trials.
So for a moment, Rentaro closed his eyes, offering a brief respect to his fallen teammate.
Then he opened his eyes again and glanced forward, his gaze narrowing as the hesitation within him disappeared completely.
"Okay."
[Standby for ascension...]
