Chapter 8: Instant Evolution
Jimmy and the big rat tussled across the ground like a pair of mating snakes.
They weren’t mating, but with all the bruises they got from the impact, they might as well be.
"Missed by an inch," he tried to make himself feel better.
Jimmy stood up as fast as he could, and then he saw the rat on all its fours, hissing at him. Its thick coat of fur stood up right!
The rat charged forward a moment later.
Jimmy didn’t budge. He charged forward as well, or hopped forward. With no fists to use in this battle which was fundamentally a fist fight, he used his head.
He head-butted the rat. There was nothing smart about it, as he had already felt dizzy from the initial clash, but his method worked.
The hostile rat was the biggest of its bunch, but it was still half of Jimmy’s size, so one head-bud sent it flying backwards.
Jimmy followed his momentum, and pecked the rat a few times, mainly on its head. His pecks were strong enough to cause some flesh wounds, and the rat had already given up. It was just lying there.
"I win," he huffed out, his vision blurry, "I’m a pro-wrestler, after all."
In any other situation, he would leave the rat alone after nearly beating it to death. Its furry exterior and pink tail were disgusting to look at, and for a moment, he almost mistook it for a cockroach! He was grossed out.
But for one thing, he was hungry, as the last time he ate was a few hours ago. The other thing was that he needed more points.
With that said, he kept pecking at its head, nearly sadistically beating a creature who didn’t fight back. He didn’t feel great about it, but this was part of the hunt.

"All that for a piss of points?" He grumbled, "What a waste of a pecking."
Jimmy pecked on the carcass some more, and smushed the meat into a digestible, plump chunk before he swallowed it. In the meantime, the dizziness faded away bit by bit, so he felt a little bit better.
Moments later, he heard a collection of hisses. They sounded like a symphony of bad luck.
He turned to his right, and saw twelve rats slowly approaching him. As he stared at them, they started circling around him.
"Oh, you called for backup, huh?" He sneered, "You’re lucky that my feet hurt, or I’d stomp every single one of you bastards on the head."
The rats didn’t respond well. They kept hissing at him.
"Fuck this," he blurted, "I’m going home. I’ll collect your friend later."
As he said that, he flapped his wings, and flew forward. He had a hard time reaching higher altitudes. It took him a while, so he ended up brisking above one of the rats.
Three rats jumped him. They clung on to his feathers before he could’ve made his escape, and threw him to the ground.
Two of them bit him, leaving these nasty, albeit small bite-marks.
"Ah shit!" He cawed, "Motherfuckers!"
Jimmy slapped the rats away with his wings moments later, but the rest of them followed suit, and jumped him all together, landing bite after bite.
"Where are my siblings?" He silently cried out, "I need help here..."
Desperate, he started hopping away from danger, but he couldn’t outrun them. The rats were significantly faster than him, as they ran on their fours.
One of them clung on to his tail, and so he was forced to stop, and fight back again. He slapped the rats away with his wings, using their large size to his advantage, but nevertheless, there were twelve of them, so he could not buy himself enough time to escape.
So far, he has been bitten fifteen times. The biggest rat of the bunch bit him once more.
"Fuck you!" He snapped, and pecked at the rat.
Purely out of luck, he pecked the rat right in the eye. It died on the spot.

"Oh?" He raised his head, "So that’s your weak spot, eh?"
Before he could even finish his sentence, three more rats jumped him. He cleverly evaded them by slapping the daylights out of them with his wings.
As the rest of the rats charged at him, he went for headshots, aiming at their eyes. He killed two more of them.

[You have accumulated enough points to buy the Assassin Crow evolutionary path. Would you like to purchase it now?]
"Yes!" He shouted out, as he fought four more rats back, "Please!"

[The Assassin Crow evolutionary path has been implemented in your body successfully. You may feel a pinch.]
A split-second later, his body started hurting, all at once, as if he was being stabbed by thousands of needles.
"Mutterficker!" He cussed in agony.
Jimmy could not move a muscle. It was too painful to do so.
The rats quickly overcame him. He could see them biting him, but the pain from the burning sensation of the evolutionary path far outcompeted their bites, so he didn’t feel them.
"If I die, I die," he tried his best to find peace within himself. "At least I killed some of them."
What felt like an eternity later, which was a total of fifteen seconds, he suddenly felt sharper than ever. Stronger than ever.
The pain from the evolution initiation was gone in the blink of an eye!
"Haha!" He celebrated, and opened his wings wide.
All the rats that had piled up on him, were tossed away like ragdolls!
Jimmy then rushed after them, and got to a couple of the rats before they could’ve even stood up! Moving his ’hidden’ knees wasn’t as exhausting now, so for once, his speed was to be admired.
He pecked two of the rats through the head, and killed them. Two strikes were enough to kill them both! He didn’t have to aim for their eyes this time either, but rather, he crushed their skulls through the use of sheer force!

The rest of the rats got up on their feet, and were ready to fight back, but he didn’t care. His feet didn’t hurt, and as far as he could see, his fresh wounds had drastically sealed up. Blood trickled out of him here and there, sure, and his feathers were damped in blood, but he felt fine, as if his blood loss was non-existent!
Jimmy charged towards them, and battered through them like a knife through butter! The rats flew around left and right like bowling pins.
This was when he noticed that the rats looked smaller. He was quick to reach a conclusion.
"I got bigger?" He said.
