Chapter 93: The Veil’s Command

The representative stood motionless amid the ruins, blood still dripping from his wounds. His remaining right arm hung limply at his side as he stared at the massive holographic figure that had materialized before him. The hologram was enormous, towering over the devastated landscape like a god descending upon mortals. Its form was shrouded in swirling darkness, the face completely obscured by shifting shadows and faint crimson runes. Only a pair of glowing, piercing golden eyes were visible, radiating absolute authority and ancient power.

The representative — Lord Valerian Crowe, one of the highest-ranking enforcers of the Eternal Veil Syndicate — bowed as deeply as his broken body allowed, his voice hoarse but respectful.

“My Lord ,” he said, coughing up another mouthful of blood.

The golden eyes of the hologram narrowed slightly, scanning the representative’s ruined state.

“Valerian,” the voice boomed, deep and resonant, carrying an otherworldly weight that made the air itself tremble. “What is the meaning of this? You were sent to retrieve the Mindweaver Crown. Explain why you are standing here half-dead in the ruins of a worthless frontier planet.”

Lord Valerian Crowe lowered his head further, shame and rage mixing in his expression.

“The auction proceeded as planned, my Lord. I bid aggressively for the Crown. However... there was an interruption. Zephyr Kane, that damned lone wanderer, challenged me publicly. The situation escalated into open conflict. In the chaos that followed, I was unable to secure the Crown. He escaped with it during our battle. I pursued him, but he proved more slippery than expected. The fight... caused significant collateral damage.”

The golden eyes of the Lord flared with cold displeasure.

“Collateral damage?” the voice echoed, laced with mocking disdain. “You leveled half a planet over a single artifact and still failed to obtain it? You were chosen for this task because of your competence, Valerian. Not your ability to create spectacles.”

Valerian’s remaining fist clenched tightly, blood dripping from his knuckles.

“I apologize, my Lord. Zephyr Kane was stronger than anticipated. He fought like a madman and used some forbidden technique to escape at the final moment. I will hunt him down personally. I swear on my life that I will recover the Crown and bring you his head.”

The lord remained silent for a long moment, the golden eyes studying the broken man below him. The hologram’s presence alone made the surrounding rubble tremble.

“No,” the supreme leader finally said. “You will return immediately. A ship has already been dispatched to your location. Your failure will be addressed when you stand before me. Do not disappoint me again, Valerian. The Mindweaver Crown is vital to our plans. Do not make me send someone else to clean up your mess.”

Lord Valerian Crowe bowed even lower, his body shaking from pain and humiliation.

“As you command, my Lord.”

The hologram flickered once and then vanished, the device on the ground powering down with a soft click.

Lord Valerian Crowe remained standing in silence for nearly two full minutes, staring at the empty space where the projection had been. His face twisted with a mixture of fury, pain, and bitter resentment. He had never failed so publicly before. The humiliation burned deeper than any of his physical wounds.

Then, the sky above him tore open. ƒreewebɳovel.com

A massive spatial rift split the fractured heavens with a deafening crack. From the tear emerged a colossal ship — unlike anything seen on frontier worlds. It was enormous, easily spanning several kilometers in length, its sleek obsidian-black hull adorned with glowing crimson runes and sharp, angular designs that screamed power and menace. The vessel blotted out the sky entirely, casting a deep shadow over the ruined half of the planet. Massive thrusters glowed with dark energy, and weapon arrays the size of buildings lined its sides. It moved with an eerie, silent grace despite its size, hovering like a predator ready to strike.

A brilliant beam of crimson light shot down from the ship, enveloping Lord Valerian Crowe completely. The light lifted his broken body gently yet firmly into the air. He rose steadily, ascending toward the massive vessel above.

As he disappeared into the ship’s hangar, the spatial rift tore wider for a moment, then sealed itself behind the colossal ship. The vessel vanished into the tear with a final flash of dark energy, leaving only the devastated landscape and the slowly drifting halves of the broken planet behind.
