Chapter 103: The Thunder Blade
Elara stopped mid-sequence, her breathing steady but her mind elsewhere. The old blade in her hand felt... insufficient now. She had relied on it for so long, its familiar weight and balance a constant companion through countless battles and training sessions. But after everything they had survived and the vast resources they had gained from the ruins, it no longer felt right. It was a tool from her past, not a weapon for the future she and Lian were forging.
She dropped it aside with a soft clang that echoed through the cave. The blade skittered across the stone floor and came to rest against the wall.
From one of her storage rings, she pulled out a new weapon.
The moment the blade left the ring, it fell heavily to the ground with a deafening thunderous boom. The impact cracked the stone floor beneath it, spiderweb fissures spreading outward like veins of lightning. The blade was pure white, almost glowing with an inner luminescence, but streaks of crackling blue lightning continuously ran along its edge and flat. It was massive — longer and broader than her previous blade — and radiated an oppressive, volatile energy that made the air around it hum.
Elara stared at it with intense interest. She had found it while they were sorting through the treasures scavenged after the battle. It had immediately caught her eye. The weapon was made from a strange, unknown metal that shimmered like polished starlight but felt heavier than anything she had ever lifted. Lightning constantly danced across its surface, as if the blade itself was alive with storm energy.
“I am stronger now,” she muttered to herself. “I should be able to pick it up. I won’t look weak.”
She bent down and gripped the hilt with both hands. The moment her fingers closed around it, a powerful shock surged through her body. Blue lightning exploded outward, sending her flying backward. She crashed hard into the cave wall, the impact knocking the wind out of her. She slid down to the ground, coughing.
She wasn’t ready to give up.
She tried again from a different angle, bracing her legs. Another violent shock. She was sent flying once more, hitting the opposite wall. She tried from the side, from above, even attempting to lift it with one hand. Each attempt ended the same way — a brutal electric discharge that threw her across the cave. She lost count of how many times she was shocked and slammed into the walls. Her alloy limbs sparked and her systems warned of minor overloads, but she kept pushing.
“Why is it so heavy?” she growled under her breath, breathing hard. “It must be incredibly powerful.” fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
Frustrated but determined, she left the blade where it lay and searched through the cultivation books and records they had looted. She found a section on legendary weapons and began reading intently, absorbing every detail about heavy blades, lightning-attuned artifacts, and how to bond with them. She sat cross-legged a safe distance away, completely focused on the text. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
Meanwhile, Lian had just finished absorbing the last of his Qi crystals.
He floated down gently to the ground, eyes opening slowly. A surge of fresh energy coursed through him. His Core Condensation Late Stage foundation felt noticeably stronger, more condensed, and stable. He took a deep breath, feeling the power settle inside him.
He didn’t see Elara immediately, but he could sense her.
Using the faint perception technique he had begun learning — the same kind Zephyr Kane and the Eternal Veil Syndicate representative had used during their fight — he extended his awareness. It wasn’t nearly as strong as theirs, only a faint, hazy cloud, but it was enough. He could sense her energy signature deeper in the cave, focused and determined.
He stood up and walked toward her location.
Elara was still absorbed in the book when she felt his presence but not until he was so close to her. She looked up as Lian approached, the white lightning blade still lying on the cracked floor between them.
Lian’s gaze shifted from her to the massive blade. He raised an eyebrow slightly but said nothing. He could feel the volatile energy radiating from it.
He remembers this blade, he had no interest in it.
Elara closed the book and stood up slowly.
“I found it while we were sorting,” she explained. “It’s heavy. Really heavy. And it shocks me every time I try to lift it. But I think it’s worth it.”
Lian nodded, understanding her determination. He didn’t offer to help. This was something she needed to conquer herself.
