Leo and William could see the rows of tents and vehicles outside Rendell City from afar. William stopped the truck far away from the camp.
"William, what do you think is going on in there?"
"I have no idea. Do you want to go there, or do you want me to take a detour? The call is yours."
Leo pondered deeply for a moment.
"Let’s go take a look. We can use this chance to gather intelligence about what is currently going on in the world."
"Yes, you’re right. We can also ask if Greendale is safe to go to."
Having decided on their course of action, the truck headed toward the camp.
When they reached the camp, a group of soldiers carrying guns came out to stop them.
"Halt! Everyone inside the vehicle, step out. We need to check you for infections before letting you inside the camp."
Hearing the soldiers shout, both Leo and William stepped out of the vehicle.
William raised his hands in the air, approached the soldiers, and saluted them.
"Comrades, can you explain to us what is going on?"
The soldier, hearing William call him comrade, had his expression soften.
"Were you also in the military, brother?"
Seeing William nod, the soldier continued.
"The military is currently conducting an operation inside Rendell City. If you are interested, someone inside will inform you about it, but before that, we have to inspect you and the others entering the camp."
"How many of you are there, and where are you coming from?"
"There is my wife and daughter inside the truck. The guy over there is my brother. We came from Sunset City. Our base was destroyed by a zombie tide. We have been traveling ever since."
"Sorry to hear that, but we will still have to check everyone."
William nodded and informed Leo about the soldiers’ request.
Leo also didn’t have any problem with the inspection.
Soon, Elena and Lily came out of the truck. Then all of them were checked separately inside a makeshift tent.
After the inspection was done, the soldier gave each of them a card and asked,
"Is there a superpower user among you?"
Leo and everyone else shook their heads. Earlier inside the truck, both Leo and William had decided not to mention Leo’s superpower to outsiders.
In a desperate moment, they could use Leo’s superpower as a trump card.
The soldier then nodded to William and informed him that they could all enter with their truck.
Once inside the camp, William told Leo to wait for a while as he went to gather information.
After an hour, William came back.
"Rendell City is infested with what the military believes to be a group of aliens. Each of these aliens can control a zombie tide on their own. So the military is calling for all superpower users and survivors from this region to join the operation to eradicate these aliens."

"I see there are already a lot of people gathered here. There must be even more inside the city. So, what kind of rewards is the military promising?"
"There are ordinary supplies for killing a certain number of regular zombies, but if we can bring back the corpses of advanced zombies, we can exchange them for high-tech weapons."
William paused for a moment.
"And if we can hand over the corpse of an alien, the military will help one person awaken a superpower. They don’t give a one hundred percent guarantee, but there is a chance."
"I see. This is why there are so many ordinary people here, dreaming of hitting the jackpot."
"So what should we do? Should we join the hunt or continue on our way to Greendale?"
