Chapter 21: The one Horned demon Mutant
After observing the village for a few moments, both Leo and William frowned.
The streets were completely silent. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
There were no wandering zombies.
No survivors.
Not even the sound of barking dogs or chirping birds.
The entire village seemed lifeless.
"Something’s wrong," William muttered.
Leo nodded.
In an apocalypse, finding a place without a single zombie was far stranger than finding one filled with them.
William slowly drove the truck into the village.
The vehicle moved at a crawling pace as both men carefully observed their surroundings.
The houses on both sides of the road appeared intact. There were no signs of large-scale battles or destruction.
Yet every door was tightly shut.
Every window was covered.
It was as if the villagers had vanished overnight.
Just then, Leo noticed something.
On the ground near the roadside lay several dark stains.
Blood.
Not fresh blood, but blood nonetheless.
The stains continued forward as though something had been dragged through the village.
William naturally noticed them as well.
His expression immediately became serious.
The two exchanged a glance.
Without saying a word, both of them instinctively reached for their weapons. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
The deeper they went into the village, the stronger the uneasy feeling in their hearts became.
Then, from somewhere ahead, a faint metallic sound echoed through the silent streets.
Clang.
Clang.
Clang.
The sound was slow and rhythmic, like metal striking metal.
Both men froze.
In the next second, a system notification suddenly appeared before Leo’s eyes.
[Ding...]
[Warning.]
[High-threat lifeform detected within 300 meters.]
[Threat Level: Higher than ordinary zombies.]
Leo’s pupils contracted.
A dangerous mutant had appeared.
"William, reverse the truck now "
William, without any question, reversed the truck and pushed the accelerator to its highest limit.
Then something appeared in the rearview mirror and began chasing the truck.
This thing had the appearance of a human, but there was a horn protruding from its head. It had saw-like teeth, and in place of its hands were metallic claws.
Even though it was running, it was quickly closing the distance between itself and the truck.
Leo, seeing the mutant getting closer, took out the Glock from his vest and fired at it through the window.
The mutant didn’t even dodge. Instead, it quickly swiped its claws and deflected the bullet. The bullet couldn’t even leave a mark on its claws.
Seeing this, Leo fired again and emptied the magazine, but it still proved ineffective against the mutant.
However, Leo’s constant firing had somewhat slowed it down.
"William, don’t drive towards the city. We can’t take it back with us, or it might harm Elena and Lily."
William nodded without saying anything.
"Go at full speed. Don’t let it catch up to us."
Saying this, Leo went inside the compartment and brought out the sniper rifle hanging on his back.
He then opened the door on his side and quickly climbed onto the truck’s roof.
Due to his increased stats, this type of maneuver was not so difficult for him anymore.
He then set up the sniper rifle on the roof of the truck. After this, he aimed at the mutant still pursuing them and pulled the trigger.
This time, perhaps sensing the threat, the mutant tried to dodge, but it wasn’t fast enough. The bullet hit its shoulder, and a bloody hole appeared there.
Seeing that the rifle was working, Leo pulled the trigger again, but this time the mutant dodged.
Leo then shouted from the roof.
"William, reverse the truck and slam into it with everything you’ve got. Can you do it?"
"Not a problem, Captain."
The truck then made a dramatic U-turn, its tires screeching on the road.
Then, with full acceleration, William slammed it into the mutant.
The mutant, not expecting them to turn around so suddenly, was hit head-on.
Due to chasing the truck, it couldn’t slow down in time. Adding its speed to the speed of the truck, the moment the truck hit the mutant, it was sent flying away.
While it was in midair, the sound of a gunshot rang out, and immediately half of its face was blown away.
After it landed, though heavily injured, it was still alive.
The mutant began standing up.
"Host, this is a low-level One-Horned Demon from outer space. Even if you blast its head off, as long as its heart is still beating, it can regenerate."
Hearing the system’s warning, Leo didn’t hesitate for a moment and fired at the mutant’s heart again.
But the mutant covered its heart with its metallic claws.
Half of the mutant’s hand was blasted away.
Leo pulled the trigger again, but the sniper rifle’s magazine was empty.
"William, slam it again!"
William immediately accelerated and slammed into the mutant once more.
The mutant went flying again.
While the mutant was in midair, Leo suddenly jumped from the truck’s roof while holding a machete in his hand.
After landing on the ground, Leo immediately rushed towards the mutant and drove his machete towards its head.
"Puchi!"
But the machete got stuck halfway into the neck bone.
He immediately took out the fully loaded Glock and fired at its heart.
The mutant was in too much pain and was randomly swinging its arms at Leo.
Even after being shot in the heart, it had not died.
Leo kept dodging until he heard the truck’s horn.
He immediately dodged to the side.
William once again drove the truck towards the mutant and hit it.
Due to its severe injuries, the mutant couldn’t stand up in time when William drove the truck forward and ran over it with the truck’s tires.
CRUNCH!
The sound of bones being crushed could be heard.
William then reversed the truck and ran over the mutant again.
Only after running over the mutant five times did William stop.
He got out of the truck holding a machete.
The mutant, having its spine and bones broken, couldn’t stand up again, but it continued groaning.
Even after such severe injuries, it was still alive.
Leo walked over and plunged a military knife deep into its heart before twisting the blade.
Suddenly, the mutant stiffened and turned into particles of light.
It dropped five cards, which were immediately absorbed by Leo’s belt.
Along with a glowing red stone, it also dropped a pair of metallic claws and a horn.
Seeing the mutant turn into particles of light, William was surprised, but he didn’t ask Leo any questions.
After picking up the loot, Leo turned towards William and patted him on the shoulder.
"Good job, partner."
