Chapter 11: The song to trap the dead

The thing Leo needed was a simple MP3 player. After rummaging around, he found one, along with a heavy portable speaker.

When he tried to switch the MP3 player on, the screen stayed black. The battery had died a long time ago. Luckily, the charging adapter was right next to it. Leo plugged it into the truck’s power outlet and watched the tiny battery icon flicker to life.

Once it had enough power , he turned it on, slipped in a wired earpiece, and scrolled through the tracks. The audio files were all there. Satisfied, he set the device to record a completely silent, one-hour track.

The long day had taken its toll, and exhaustion finally caught up to him. While the silent track recorded, Leo lay back on the truck’s bed and closed his eyes.

Exactly one hour later, his eyes snapped open. Years of discipline and training as an assassin had hardwired his internal clock; he could wake up on command whenever he needed to.

He grabbed the MP3 player and listened to the newly recorded track. Total silence. Perfect. Next, he plugged in the portable speaker to make sure it was fully charged.

While the speaker charged, Leo pulled out his gear card and released the C-4 explosives.

In an instant, six blocks of C-4, a spool of wire, a roll of heavy-duty tape, and a remote detonator appeared on the table. Moving with practiced ease, he began assembling the charges.

By the time he finished, the speaker’s charging light showed it was ready. Leo found an empty backpack in the cabin, carefully packed the explosives and the speaker inside, and slipped the MP3 player and the detonator into separate pants pockets.

He took one last look around to ensure he hadn’t left anything behind, then stepped out of the truck.

Slipping back into the dark building he had explored earlier, Leo made his way across the ground floor. He pulled out the C-4 and used the tape to secure the blocks firmly against the main support columns.

Next, he connected the MP3 player to the portable speaker, maxed out the volume dial, and taped both devices securely to the ceiling.

He hit play on the silent, one-hour track. He had already configured the settings: the moment the silence ended, the next playlist , full of loud, booming music would trigger automatically.

With the trap set, Leo grabbed his empty backpack and hurried back to the truck. He pressed his thumb against the ignition screen, and the engine purred to life.

He drove a short distance away ,far enough to be safe from the blast, but close enough to watch. Positioned perfectly, he switched on the vehicle’s external cameras, giving him a clear view of the building’s entrance.

The night air was freezing, and the world outside was eerily quiet. Leo sat motionless, his eyes glued to the monitor.

An hour passed. Then, the silence shattered. A loud, jarring song began blasting from the building.

The reaction was instant. The quiet night erupted into absolute chaos. Low, guttural growls and the frantic pounding of footsteps echoed from every direction.

Hearing the sudden, violent commotion, a cold sweat broke out across Leo’s neck.

Even though he knew the truck was heavily armored and designed to mask his life force from the outside world, he instinctively slowed his breathing. He didn’t dare move a muscle. fгeewebnovёl.com

Through the camera feed, he watched a massive wave of zombies sprint toward the building. A few of them bolted right past his parked truck, entirely ignoring it, their dead eyes fixed only on the noise.

Within minutes, the building was completely packed with the undead, wall to wall. But Leo held his breath, waiting. He needed to be sure.

Finally, the rushing crowds thinned out. No more zombies were emerging from the shadows. They were all trapped inside, lured by the music.

Now, Leo thought.

He pulled the detonator from his pocket, flipped up the safety switch, and pressed the button.
