Soon, Ivy returned to the shelter. After parking the armored vehicle, she stepped out alongside the dog before making her way inside, leaving him outside for a little while.
Aria and Lila had remained inside the shelter the entire time because they already knew the rules. They were never allowed to come outside unless Ivy was around, and even if she was present, they still needed her permission before stepping out.
As soon as Ivy entered the shelter, she found Aria and Lila seated at the small table, busily having their breakfast. But the instant their eyes landed on her, both girls froze.
Their expressions lit up immediately.
Without hesitation, they sprang to their feet, abandoned their food, and rushed toward her with bright smiles and excitement written all over their faces.
"You’re back!" Aria exclaimed first, practically bouncing on her toes. Her gaze immediately drifted toward the entrance behind Ivy. "Is Sunny here with you?"
"Did you bring her back, Mommy?" Lila asked right after, her eyes wide with anticipation and curiosity.
A warm smile spread across Ivy’s lips.
"Yes, girls," she replied, unable to hide her own excitement at seeing them so happy. "Sunny is outside."
The moment those words left her mouth, both girls squealed with joy.
"Can we see her now? Please?" Aria asked, clasping her hands together as she stared at Ivy hopefully.
Instead of answering immediately, Ivy walked toward the kitchen sink first. She carefully washed her hands with soap and water, scrubbing away the dirt from outside, before drying them with a clean towel.
Afterward, she made her way over to Hope, who was still peacefully asleep. Gently, Ivy scooped the little girl into her arms, adjusting her comfortably against her chest so as not to wake her.
Only then did she turn back to Aria and Lila.
"Alright," Ivy finally said with a soft chuckle. "Let’s go."
The girls instantly jumped in excitement, nearly tripping over each other as they hurried toward the exit.
Ivy followed behind them, carrying Hope securely while leading the girls through the shelter door and outside.
The moment Aria and Lila stepped out and spotted the massive dog waiting nearby, their faces brightened even more.
"Sunny!!!" both girls screamed in unison, their voices filled with pure happiness.
"Bark! Bark!"
Sunny immediately wagged her tail and barked excitedly in response, clearly just as thrilled to see them again.
"You’re back!" Lila cried out as she hurried over before dropping to her knees beside her. She wrapped both arms around her large furry body, hugging her tightly. "We missed you so much."
"Yes, we did," Aria added with a light laugh as she gently stroked Sunny’s fur. Then, lowering her voice dramatically, she whispered, "Your owners abandoned you, but don’t worry we’re here for you now."
Lila nodded seriously in agreement.
"Exactly. You belong with us now."
At their words, Sunny let out another happy bark and licked Lila’s cheek, making both girls burst into laughter.
Watching the interaction, Ivy couldn’t help but smile softly.
The scene in front of her was unexpectedly heartwarming.

A mechanical notification suddenly echoed in Ivy’s mind.

Ivy blinked in surprise.
Huh?
Her eyes widened almost instantly.

"But I’m still hungry after eating too," Lila argued immediately, folding her tiny arms across her chest. "Sometimes little portions don’t fill me up."
Aria snorted beside her.
"That’s because you always want more food."
Lila ignored her sister completely.
"But Sunny is still hungry, Mommy," Lila insisted, her expression turning even more serious as a tiny pout formed on her lips. "Where’s her food? You’ll see. She’s hungry right now."
Before Ivy could even respond, Lila’s eyes suddenly landed on a plate sitting on the nearby table beside Ivy.
The plate was covered and filled with meat....food Ivy had specifically prepared earlier according to Sunny’s taste.
Lila gasped dramatically.
"That’s her food right there!"
Without wasting another second, she hurried over and grabbed the plate with both tiny hands.
