Her eyes remained on Golden.
"And if she runs into danger... I’ll go after her."
There was no fear in her voice—only resolve.

With a low mechanical sound—
The shelter gate slowly opened.
Golden didn’t hesitate.
The moment there was space, she dashed out, running straight toward the distant road she had been staring at all along.
Seconds later—
The gate shut again.
Silence fell over the area.
The two girls immediately ran toward the gate, their small feet moving as fast as they could.
"Wait—!"
But by the time they got there...
The road was already empty.
Golden was gone.
Completely out of sight.
Aria and Lila stood frozen, staring into the distance as if hoping the dog would suddenly reappear.
But she didn’t.
And that only made the ache in their little hearts grow heavier.
"...She’s really gone," Lila whispered, her voice trembling slightly afterwhich tears began rolling down her cheeks breaking Ivy heart immediately.
Aria didn’t say anything.
She just stood there quietly, her hands gripping the gate as her eyes lingered on the empty street.
Ivy watched them for a moment, forgetting how to move before letting out a soft sigh.

Both Aria and Lila slowly threw themselves into her embrace.
"If she doesn’t come back..." Ivy continued, holding them while gently Patting their backs, "then I’ll get each of you a dog of your own."
Lila blinked, surprised.
"Really?" she asked, raising a small brow.
But then her expression quickly shifted, her lips forming a small pout.
"...But I don’t want another dog mommy," she said softly. "I only want Sunny..."
That made Ivy pause.
Then—
She facepalmed lightly, letting out a long sigh.
"...Of course you do," she muttered under her breath, half amused, half helpless.
Kids really didn’t work that way.
Once they liked something...
That was it.
Still, she quickly recovered, forcing a brighter tone into her voice.
"Alright, enough standing here," she said, clapping her hands lightly to get their attention. "Let’s go back inside. We’ll talk more there."
The girls didn’t move immediately.
So Ivy added—
"I have ice cream. Do you girls want some or I should finish all?"
That did it.
Both Aria and Lila’s heads snapped up instantly, their eyes widening with excitement.
"Ice cream?" they echoed at the same time.
Ivy smiled knowingly.
She knew exactly what she was doing.
Ice cream had always been their weakness.
And right now... they needed something—anything—to lift their spirits.
"Yes," she said with a small nod. "Ice cream."
Aria let out a small sigh, though this time it wasn’t as heavy as before.
"...Okay," she said quietly. "I need one."
"Me too, Mommy. The chocolate flavour," Lila added quickly, already turning toward the shelter.
Without wasting another second, the two girls headed inside, their heads still bowed down in sadness.
Ivy watched them go, her smile softening.
Then she glanced once more toward the empty road beyond the gate.
Her expression turned thoughtful.
I hope you come back, she thought silently. I really hope you do.
"Make sure you keep her safe system. A protective shield please." Ivy finally voiced out with pleading eyes.
Ding!
