Chapter 55: Chapter 55 Ten days later

Ten days later....

The broadcasts had stopped.

And that forced people out.

Outside, chaos reigned.

The loud growls of monsters echoed through the streets, accompanied by the heavy thudding of their footsteps. Human screams pierced the air as people ran desperately for their lives.

Those who had ventured out of hiding in search of food...

Some never made it back.

Instead, they became food.

And worse, each bite meant another monster.

Their numbers kept increasing.

"Oh my goodness... those motherfuckers are still out there..." a bald man whispered, his voice trembling.

He was dressed in a singlet and trousers, sweat clinging to his skin as he held his phone close to his face, recording himself.

Meanwhile, just outside the storage room where he had taken refuge inside the supermarket...

A monster lingered.

The moment the man realized one had claimed the supermarket as its domain, he had rushed into hiding.

But now...the creature stood near the entrance blocking it as if it knew someone was trapped inside.

And it had no intention of letting its prey escape.

The monster...

It was roughly the height of a normal human, yet everything else about it was wrong.

Its jagged teeth were stained with dried blood and bits of flesh, layered over each other in a horror display. Its fingernails were unnaturally long...more like claws...curved and sharpened, clearly made for tearing flesh open with brutal ease.

Although its body still retained the general shape of a human, several features had mutated into something far more disturbing.

Its ears.

They were long...far longer than any human’s resembling an elf’s, but exaggerated to nearly ten times the normal size. They twitched constantly, almost as if alive on their own.

It used them to listen.

Because where its eyes should have been...

There was nothing.

The entire upper portion of its face had been torn off, leaving behind a horrifying absence. No eyes. No sockets.

Just a nose...

...and a mouth filled with rows of razor-sharp teeth.

"I... I really don’t know how to get out of here," the man whispered into his phone, his voice trembling as he continued his livestream.

"That motherfucker’s sense of hearing is insane. Even though it can’t see... it hears everything."

He swallowed hard, wiping sweat from his forehead.

"I’m seriously screwed. I can’t even go out to pee... hell, I need to shit, but I can’t!" he muttered in frustration, his breathing uneven. "There’s no toilet here either... unless I leave this storage room."

His camera shook slightly as his hands trembled.

"There were five of us... all together," he continued, his voice cracking. "Four of them... eaten. That thing ate them right in front of me..."

He clenched his jaw.

"I’m the only one left. And that’s only because I ran straight into this storage room the moment I saw it."

He let out a shaky breath.

"That motherfucker can’t catch me since I locked myself in here... but I don’t know how long that’ll last..."

"Hey."

A voice suddenly came from behind him.

The man froze.

His phone slipped from his hands and hit the ground with a loud clatter.

"Fuck!" he hissed, spinning around in panic. "Do you want to get me killed?!"

His voice dropped immediately to a harsh whisper as his eyes locked onto the stranger.

A man stood by the small window.

He was dressed in military trousers and a white singlet that clung to his muscular frame. His build was solid....clearly someone who trained regularly.

A soldier... or at least, someone who fought like one.

"The monster is in the supermarket?" the burly man asked quietly, his tone controlled but urgent.

His gaze flicked briefly toward the four large bags of supplies the streamer had packed.

"There’s no time to gather more," he added, lowering his voice even further. "I’m sure that thing heard your phone drop. That single sound is enough....it’ll be here any second."

The streamer swallowed nervously.

"Let’s split your supplies," the burly man continued, his expression hard. "Half for me, half for you. And in return... I’ll get you out of here."

He pulled something from his side and held it up...a rope with a hook, sturdy enough to latch onto a surface.

"I can secure this to the wall and help you climb out."

He lean closer, urgency bleeding into his tone.

"Deal or no deal? I’ve got children to feed. They’re starving. This isn’t the time to start searching for supplies from scratch." ƒreewebɳovel.com

His eyes darted toward the door.

"Hurry. That monster is already on its way."

He paused, then added in a low, serious voice:

"Even though it’s a monster... the ones that still retain a human form are smarter. They know how to open doors, windows... all that shit. They’re not like the others."

A brief flash of memory crossed his face.

"You can call them advanced monsters. I fought one recently."

The streamer narrowed his eyes slightly, still clutching his phone as he resumed filming.

"And why should I give you half?" he whispered back, suspicion creeping into his tone. "You didn’t even ask for a quarter."

Before the burly man could respond....

GROWL...

The sound was low and close.

Both men froze.

Then....

CRACK!

The door handle turned violently... and was ripped clean off.

Before either of them could react...

A long, horror arm shot through the opening, its claws scraping against the metal door as it forced its way inside.
