Chapter 156: Chapter 156 Pharmaceutical R&D factory.

Ivy and Darren soon arrived at the pharmaceutical R&D factory, as directed by the system, only to find the main gate standing wide open.

They both got out of the armored vehicle with their guns firmly gripped in their hands, fully prepared to blow off the heads of any monsters they encountered.

The building appeared worn and abandoned. Broken glass littered the ground, cracks ran across the walls, and signs of destruction could be seen everywhere.

"Bark! Bark! Bark!"

The illusion dogs barked behind Ivy and Darren, looking fully prepared for battle.

"You’re all ready too, huh?" Ivy asked with a light chuckle as she gently rubbed one of the dogs’ heads. "Of course you are."

"What’s this?" Darren voiced out, his eyes filled with seriousness. "I have a bad feeling about this place. I mean, why is the gate wide open as if we’re being expected? And if we are being expected, then where are the monsters we’re supposed to be fighting?"

Instead of answering immediately, Ivy activated her Territory Link and inspected the building.

She quickly discovered that the factory had only this main entrance, six floors above ground, and a basement parking level below.

"Let’s clear the ground floor first in case there are any monsters," Ivy said seriously, tightening her grip on her gun. "You don’t expect monsters to rush down and greet you if they don’t know we’re here. Or perhaps a monster that still retains its human intelligence opened the gate for us."

She paused briefly before continuing.

"Maybe they want us to walk straight into whatever trap they’ve prepared. Either way, let’s go. We’ve defeated far worse monsters before, so I believe we can handle this too."

Darren swallowed hard before nodding.

"That’s true."

Together, they entered the building and began carefully clearing the ground floor.

To Ivy’s surprise, she found no monsters anywhere.

The flickering lights continued switching on and off occasionally, creating an atmosphere capable of terrifying anyone who entered the building.

However, neither Ivy nor Darren seemed affected by it.

"Let’s keep moving," Ivy said.

She continued forward until she reached another door that was already open. Without wasting any time, she walked through it with Darren following closely behind.

It turned out to be the administrative office.

Yet instead of monsters, they found half-eaten packets of instant noodles scattered across the tables and floor.

"Were these eaten by monsters or people?" Darren joked with a light chuckle. "Do people even eat like this? The noodle packets weren’t even torn open properly. It looks more like someone ate the noodles together with the packaging."

"Since when do monsters eat instant noodles?" Ivy replied with a chuckle of her own. "There’s no water or gas here to cook them, so the survivors could only eat them raw."

She picked up one of the abandoned packets and examined it.

"And if a person is already starving to death, do you really think they’ll waste time carefully opening the package before eating?"

"That’s true." Darren sighed heavily. "Hunger can make anyone seem like a mad person."

Ivy nodded in agreement.

Immediately, she deduced that the personnel had evacuated the facility in a hurry.

Without hesitation, she began collecting every edible supply she could find to transport back to the vehicle.

Ding!

{Supplies have been extracted successfully.}

"Good. Let’s go, Darren."

Ivy immediately walked out of the office while Darren and the illusion dogs followed behind her.

The group entered the elevator and prepared to travel upward.

However, the moment the elevator doors closed, a sharp headache struck Ivy.

A flood of memories that she had long forgotten suddenly came crashing into her mind.

Fuck! It’s here!

Ivy’s eyes widened as she finally remembered what this place was.

This factory.

This basement.

This was the birthplace of a legendary monster.

A monster that had killed millions of people.

A monster whose name became infamous across the world.

A monster that was nearly impossible to kill.

No wonder I had such a bad feeling about this place the moment we arrived.

Ivy inwardly released a heavy sigh.

But I couldn’t show fear or hesitation in front of Darren. He was already uncomfortable with coming here in the first place.

Has the monster already formed though? Or is it still in the process of evolving?

Just then....

BANG!

The entire elevator shook violently.

Ivy and Darren quickly grabbed the elevator walls to steady themselves.

"What’s going on now?" Darren asked, worry clearly visible on his face.

He quickly turned toward the control panel.

His eyes widened.

The elevator had somehow begun descending toward the basement despite neither of them touching the controls.

"Huh?" Darren raised an eyebrow as he swallowed nervously. "Did you press that? Weren’t we supposed to be going up? How are we heading down?"

"I didn’t press anything," Ivy replied while trying to remain calm despite the growing unease in her chest.

She swallowed hard.

"D...Did someone else press it?"

"We’re the only ones here," Darren replied, fear beginning to creep into his voice. "Unless one of the illusion dogs suddenly learned how to operate elevators."

His expression stiffened.

"Wait... when you say someone else, do you mean someone invisible?"

Instead of answering, Ivy immediately stepped forward and repeatedly pressed several buttons.

Nothing happened.

The elevator continued descending.

"Come on..." she cursed under her breath with frustration. freewebnovel.cσ๓

After several more failed attempts, she finally gave up.

"Alright. Nobody invisible pressed the elevator, okay?" Ivy finally said as she turned toward Darren. "Maybe a monster did it. Or perhaps something that still retains enough intelligence to use machinery."

She took a deep breath.

"That isn’t our biggest problem right now."

Her voice became serious.

"The real problem is being ready for whatever is waiting for us when those doors open."

She then turned toward the illusion dogs.

"You all should make me proud again, alright?" Ivy said with a warm smile as she knelt down to their level and gently rubbed their heads. "When we get home, I’ll give Sunny plenty of meat to share with all of you."

"Bark! Bark!"

The illusion dogs barked enthusiastically.

"I am ready, Mrs. Ivy," Darren declared, determination replacing the fear on his face.

Ivy stood up and nodded approvingly.

"Good."

Ding!

The elevator finally stopped.

With a mechanical hiss, the doors slowly slid open.

The moment they did, two illusion dogs shot out.

Before the people standing near the entrance could even react, the dogs had already pinned them to the ground.

At the same time, Ivy and Darren rushed out of the elevator with their weapons raised, preparing to deal with the remaining individuals waiting inside the basement.
