Chapter 103: Chapter 103 Please save our captain!
The name escaped her lips almost immediately.
A flood of memories rushed into her mind like a violent wave.
Darren... one of her loyal comrades from her past life.
Back then, she had met countless people during the apocalypse.
And Darren had been one of the few kind people she could never forget.
At one point in her previous life, when her ex-husband’s wife cruelly chased both Ivy and her children out of the house yet again, Darren had been the one who saved them.
That punishment had happened often.
Whenever Ivy made even the slightest mistake, she would be thrown out alongside her children like trash. Sometimes the children were spared... but only if Ivy knelt and begged pitifully enough.
During one of those horrible nights, Darren had rescued her from a mutant monster that nearly killed her. He had even shared his food with her and the children despite having very little himself.
Yet even after receiving his help, she had still foolishly returned to her husband’s house.
Thinking back on it now made her feel both grateful and bitter.
"It’s really him..." Ivy whispered softly, joy and disbelief filling her heart. "I can’t believe he’s still alive."
Without hesitation, Ivy stood up from her seat.
Then she walked out of the bunker and entered her armored truck before driving out confidently toward the gate.
The loud sound of the vehicle engine instantly startled the kneeling soldiers outside.
Their heads snapped upward in shock the moment the heavy armored truck rolled out from inside the bunker compound. freёweɓnovel.com
"She’s... a woman?" one of the soldiers muttered under his breath, his eyes widening in disbelief.
"A woman actually owns this bunker?" another whispered. "That’s impossible..."
"Maybe her husband is the real owner?"
"A...and is that an armored truck?!" another man exclaimed in shock. "There are still vehicles like that left in the apocalypse?!"
The group could barely process what they were seeing.
Meanwhile, Ivy slowly lowered the truck window before calmly glancing at the kneeling men before her.
"You can all stand up and come inside," she said indifferently.
The moment those words left her mouth, waves of shock spread through the entire group.
None of them had expected her to forgive them so easily after they previously tried forcing their way into the bunker.
They had prepared themselves to be insulted, humiliated, or even chased away.
Yet instead, she was inviting them inside.
For a few seconds, nobody moved. They simply stared at her blankly as though they had misheard her words.
Soon, Ivy drove the armored truck back into the bunker compound before stepping out gracefully.
Only then did the soldiers finally snap back to reality.
"Quick! Carry the captain inside!" Darren immediately ordered.
The group hurriedly lifted the unconscious Erik alongside the injured Mathew before rushing into the bunker compound.
Once everyone entered, the massive metal gates instantly shut behind them with a loud mechanical sound.
Truthfully, even if the group had attempted breaking the gates down earlier, they would never have succeeded. The gates could only open if Ivy personally allowed it.
However, the moment the soldiers fully entered the compound, they froze once again in utter disbelief.
Their mouths slowly fell open.
From outside the bunker walls, they had only managed to catch small glimpses of greenery.
But now that they were inside...
They finally understood why the place smelled strongly of life and medicinal herbs.
Large fields filled with vegetables stretched across the compound beautifully. Healthy crops swayed gently beneath the wind while rows of medicinal plants grew carefully nearby.
There were even livestock roaming around peacefully.
Chickens, goats, rabbits, and several other animals moved freely within fenced areas.
The sight before them looked less like an apocalypse shelter and more like a hidden paradise.
"How..." one of the soldiers whispered weakly.
"This place..." another muttered in shock. "It’s unbelievable."
Just then, Sunny, who had followed Ivy outside earlier after assuming she was heading to battle, suddenly rushed out happily from his little wooden house.
"Bark! Bark!"
The energetic dog wagged his tail excitedly as he ran toward Ivy.
A faint smile appeared on Ivy’s face immediately.
Without hesitation, she walked toward a nearby table and grabbed a plate containing barely cooked meat specially prepared with ingredients for Sunny.
Then she crouched down and began feeding her lovingly while Sunny happily devoured the meat with his tail wagging nonstop.
The soldiers stared at the scene with stunned expressions.
They themselves had not eaten proper meat ever since the apocalypse began.
Yet a dog was casually eating fresh meat right in front of them.
The sight left them feeling both shocked and speechless.
Meanwhile, Darren slowly stepped forward before suddenly dropping to his knees once again in front of Ivy.
"Please save our captain," Darren pleaded sincerely, his head lowered respectfully. "The scent of medicinal herbs here is very strong, so I believe you must have the necessary plants to treat him."
His voice trembled slightly with desperation.
Behind him, the other soldiers also fell to their knees once more.
Every single one of them lowered their heads before Ivy silently, their expressions filled with hope, fear, and desperation.
