Chapter 56: A Load Of Arrogance
"I hope my grandson did not trouble you too much," Robert Greels said, and April scoffed, rolling her eyes away.
"He’s a load of arrogance," she said, and Alexander flinched. "But don’t worry too much about him. Thankfully, he hasn’t been going around making trouble lately. So I’d say he’s doing well." fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Robert smiled. His face was no longer weak or sickly, and the crinkled corners of his eyes shone brightly. "Thank you, April. You are such a good girl."
The words struck a sudden, unexpected chord deep inside her.
As Robert smiled, a fleeting, fragmented memory suddenly triggered in April’s mind—one she couldn’t quite grasp. She saw a vision of a wrinkled, old hand holding a small spoon, gently bringing it to her lips.
In the memory, she was breathing hoarsely, burning up as if she were desperately sick. But when she tried to strain her mind to look up at the face of the person taking care of her, the vision remained frustratingly blurry.
And that was all she remembered.
Was this a memory from before I entered the Morgan estate? She wondered. Since her childhood memories were completely missing, she couldn’t be sure. But it definitely wasn’t a memory from after she entered the estate or after the apocalypse. Then... who was that old person? She couldn’t even tell if it was an old lady or an old man.
Well, it was gone, and there was nothing else she could do but focus on the present.
Shaking off the sudden vertigo, April clapped her hands again to clear the air.
"Anyway, we don’t have time to dilly-dally! You need to start getting ready now that your old man is awake," she exclaimed, her voice smooth and practical as her head began calculating exactly how much time she would have left to get her luxury shopping done today.
But as soon as she said that, Alexander’s expression instantly tightened as reality rushed back. He looked down at his watch, the heavy anxiety creeping right back into his chest. freёwebnoѵel.com
"The conference... I don’t know what will happen once I walk into that room and face my uncle," Alexander muttered, his voice dropping. "Uncle Harvey is definitely planning something again. Even with my grandfather awake, I need to be absolutely sure that we will survive this walk into the lions’ den."
He turned his full focus back to her, his hand already reaching instinctively into his coat pocket. "I need a reading, Miss April. Right now."
April looked at him. The system hadn’t alerted her of his imminent demise in the next 24 hours, so he’s not going to die. But there were also other things worse than death, so she had to take a look.
And taking a look meant getting more money. Her eyes turned cool, sharp, and transactional. She snapped her fingers. "That will be 50 million."
Robert Greels was watching, trying to see exactly how it is that she does her readings. He’s seen them use tarot cards, orbs that glowed, and even candles, but this young lady did not seem to own any of that.
Alexander didn’t hesitate for a single second. He pulled out his checkbook, swiftly wrote down the exact amount, tore the check from the pad, and handed it directly to her.
"I may not have the checkbook to write you a larger amount, but I can still do this," he said, and April took the crisp check, a deep sense of profound satisfaction washing over her as she tucked it safely away.
50 million from Xavier, and 50 million from Alexander. A cool 100 million earned in a single morning. And she would also be getting half a billion soon. Her haul could not be interrupted now.
"Alright, let’s take a look at that future, shall we?" She asked as the check disappeared from her hand and right into her storage space, surprising the old man.
Insight.
[System Notice: Target locked on Alexander Greels. Would you like to read his upcoming boardroom conference timeline?]
[Number of insights left today: 2/3]
Yes, April commanded.
[Target: Alexander Greels—Boardroom Conference Timeline]
Immediate future:
The target’s convoy will encounter a severe, orchestrated accident if they travel through the second lane on the way to the headquarters. To survive and arrive safely, the target must deviate and travel strictly through the first lane to bypass the ambush.Upon safe arrival at the entrance, multiple individuals will attempt to intercept the target under the guise of routing security protocols, demanding immediate signatures on administrative paperwork. These documents are a hidden trap designed to make the target inadvertently sign over his executive responsibilities without his knowledge. The target must absolutely refuse to sign any documents from anyone at the entrance.
Hidden future: If the target strictly follows the Host’s advice, he will successfully enter the boardroom alongside Robert Greels. Harvey Greels remains entirely unaware that Robert Greels is awake and healthy. Robert Greels will publicly expose his son Harvey’s treasonous actions, completely terminating all of Harvey’s rights to run or inherit the company. As Robert Greels is now physically strong and fully revitalized, he will retain absolute control of the empire until his grandson, Alexander, fully wisens up. Alexander Greels will formally be solidified as the sole, undisputed successor to the Greels empire.
...
April stared at the glowing blue interface inside her mind. Woo... that’s a lot of text. But then again, the contents of the Hidden Future seem to change every time.
Sometimes it’s about a hidden thought about the target, sometimes it’s a conspiracy they don’t know of, and sometimes, it’s the divergent future that follows the altered timeline.
In any case, they were all useful.
April took a mental breath to digest all the information from the reading, her lips curling into a sharp, cold smirk.
That uncle of his is incredibly thorough, she thought to herself. An ambush on the road, and a legal trap at the front door. He really covered all his bases. Too bad he has absolutely no idea Robert Greels is standing right here, fully conscious.
April fixed a dead-serious gaze on Alexander.
"Listen to me very carefully," April said, her voice dropping into an authoritative whisper that instantly made Alexander snap to attention. "Your uncle has set a double trap for you today..."
