Chapter 52: Harvey Greels
Harvey Greels, just like Alexander Greels, had blonde hair and blue eyes, but he was far more aged, given he was older than Alexander’s father before he passed away.
Around his eyes were deep wrinkles, and he maintained a well-kept blonde mustache beneath his nose. In the outside world, he looked like a refined philanthropist, carefully carving a fake image of himself as charitable and caring.
But he was far from it. Right now, his true colors were bleeding through. His blue eyes were bloodshot, practically burning with the humiliation of having failed over and over to take out the young heir and keep the old chairman down.
On his desk, the speaker of an encrypted, black satellite phone buzzed before a strained, breathless voice filtered through. It was his most expensive asset—a deep-cover security guard embedded directly into Alexander Greels’ inner circle.
"I’m telling you, Mr. Greels, the Chairman is gone," the spy stammered, his voice thin with a terror that couldn’t be faked. "Alexander arrived at the hospital this morning and went straight to the VIP wing. He caught the attending doctor red-handed right as he was trying to administer the secondary poison. Alexander had him locked up instantly and secured the chemical vial as airtight evidence."
Harvey’s grip tightened on the edge of his desk. "What do you mean, he caught him? The doctor is no fool, and that brat Alexander isn’t smart enough to figure out all this on his own. Where is my father now?"
"We don’t know, sir," the spy admitted, sweating profusely on the other end of the line. "After the doctor was detained, we were sent away."
"What?!" Harvey growled, his brows knitting together.
"But we came back as soon as we could," the spy quickly added, eager to appease his employer. "And we were sure the Chairman was still there. We even walked Alexander out of the hospital. But knowing that the Chairman wasn’t found afterwards, I assume it was within that time frame that the Chairman was moved out. They also took massive precautions because we have absolutely no clue where the old man is being kept right now."
Harvey slammed his open palm onto the desk, the wood rattling. "A ghost? My unconscious father just vanished out of a guarded medical wing beneath your noses?! Alexander doesn’t have the tactical wit to pull off a relocation under that kind of pressure. Someone was feeding him directions."
"Yes, sir. That’s exactly what happened," the spy reported, lowering his voice. "Alexander didn’t figure any of this out on his own. It was a woman."
"A woman?" free𝑤ebnovel.com
"Yes, a woman he paid an astronomical amount of money to. Alexander was calling her a seer and I believe her name was April."
Harvey’s bloodshot eyes narrowed, his mustache twitching. "A seer? A fortune teller?"
"She predicted exactly what was going on with the Chairman, it seems, and that he was being poisoned. She knew someone would try to silence the chairman and told Alexander exactly when to strike."
"What the hell are you saying to me now? That a fortune teller foiled my plans? What? For the fun of it?"
"Yes and no, sir. She is the one responsible for all of this but she didn’t do it out of charity. Like I said before, she got Alexander to pay her an astronomical amount. I believe she treats her assistance like a high-end commodity, demanding massive payment before she opens her mouth. Alexander followed her instructions to the end, and it completely ruined our own plans."
Harvey slowly leaned back into his leather chair, a dark, venomous intrigue replacing his initial shock. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
So, all this was done by one woman who claimed she could see the future, is that it? And she charges high for her assistance?
The wrinkles around his eyes crinkled as a cold smile touched his face.
He had his doubts that his father would wake up the next morning for the conference even if they managed to clear the poison from his system. That poison was far too potent to be cleared in just one day.
And even if it was possible, with all of the medical team of the Greels family on his side, there would be no one to help the old man. Alexander probably hid his grandfather somewhere so he could call in someone from abroad to treat him.
So, he still had time to get rid of the brat who had been compromising his position and stopping him from becoming the next chairman.
But what Harvey didn’t know was that April and Xavier Reed had executed the relocation together, so he had no idea of Reed Industries’ involvement.
"A money-grubbing girl who sells the future," Harvey murmured, tapping his fingers rhythmically against the desk. "If she can see a trap before it springs, she is too dangerous to leave in that foolish boy’s hands. But a woman who loves money is a woman who can be bought. Or broken."
Then all he has to do is buy the seer over, isn’t it?
He focused his icy blue eyes back on the phone. "Find her and watch the boy. The absolute second this ’seer’ steps away from Alexander’s side, you let me know. If she can truly see the future, she’s going to help me claim this empire. And if she refuses... I’ll make sure she regrets ever interfering with the Greels family."
"Understood, sir."
The line went dead and Harvey slowly leaned his back into his leather chair, his gaze drifting back to the dark stain of scotch slowly dripping down his study door.
A chilling, unhinged chuckle escaped his throat, echoing coldly in the quiet room.
He had planned this takeover so meticulously for months and years even, and he was not about to be bested by the boy who was still wet behind his ears.
He would snuff out his last life line and take Greels Empire for himself.
If this April girl truly traded the future for gold, he would simply offer her an ocean of it—and if she dared to decline, he would ensure she learned that some futures were far too terrifying to ever look upon.
