Chapter 71: Why Don’t You Give Up?
Ignaroth didn’t have knowledge about Radiant Knights.
However, one thing was for sure...
He had to kill Max to get rid of them.
He knew about the classes of humans. Among the mages class, they could become a Summoner, similar to the human he had killed earlier.
If the Summoner died, so was his contracted summons.
Without hesitation, he summoned all his strength and mana. His Hellfire burst outward, releasing a scorching wave of purple fire that seemed to burn the space itself.
The Radiant Knights disappeared. The Hellfire could corrupt them.
At the same time, a radiant knight possessing the heaviest armor smacked two large tower shields in front of him, covering him and the entire squad, including their Master, from the Hellfire.
Ignaroth turned around and was shocked by this scene.
He could only see two towering tower shields like a closed door in front of him. He gritted his teeth and swung his greatsword at the shields.
To his surprise, the shields didn’t tremble upon the impact—his hands were shaking instead.
The Hellfire collapsed from the radiating light mana of the towering shields.
Just as he was about to pull his great sword and try again, the shields actually cracked. He was delighted.
He pushed his greatsword further instead.
But he was immediately interrupted.
A Radiant Knight from behind, known as Radiant Luminary, an Anti-Corruption Mage, cast Divine Illumination to him, weakening his Hellfire and his overall strength.
He pulled his greatsword and retreated. Unfortunately, the Divine Illumination was stuck into him.
He manifested Hellfire and intentionally tried to get rid of it.
The Divine Illumination waned.
But he was distracted.
The towering shields were abruptly opened and countless assault targeted him.
A Radiant Marksman, wearing a light armor with enchanted vision lenses, pulled the golden string from his shining bow, and a light arrow manifested.
The shining bow was fully draw. The aiming was lethal.
A Radiant Pathfinder, wearing minimal armor and has enhanced sensory runes covering his helmet and cloak, also pointed his recurve bow at him.
A Radiant Skirmisher, wearing the lightest armor among the Radiant Knights, pointed his shortbow at him.
A Radiant Arcanist, wearing silver-white robes covered in luminous runic inscriptions and floating spells circles floated around him, pointed his arcane staff, summoning three spells at once—Radiant Bolt, Arcane Lance, and Light Spear.
A Radiant Luminary had his Light Catalyst shimmering with blinding golden light, summoning two Holy Flare spells.
The other three Radiant Knights—Radiant Cleric, Radiant Enchanter, and Radiant Oracle—expended their mana as well to buff their allies while debuffing him.
Ignaroth was frozen.
However, the moment he saw Max, despite startling him with the latter’s appearance, wearing a long white coat reaching below his knees and a pair of white and silver gauntlet gloves extending to his forearms, he instantly used the signature ability on him.
Infernal Challenge!! He shouted in his thoughts.
Infernal Challenge was what made him the Ember Champion, a Duelist.
He marked his chosen opponent as his primary target, focusing his combat instincts on the target, increasing his attack accuracy, increasing his reaction speed, and improving resistance against distractions and fear.
He swung his sword at Max and a concentrated arc of Hellfire flew towards him, just in time for Max’s Radiant Knights’ attack to bolt towards it.
Their attacks collided—a light and dark mana attempted to cancel out each other.
They dispelled each other. The Radiant Knights attacked again, but Ignaroth was focused solely for Max.
His Ember-red eyes surged with Hellfire, glaring at Max.
Ignaroth dashed towards Max, but the latter simply grinned at him.
He let the Radiant Knights, under the guidance of Radiant Oracle, coordinated with each other, repeatedly pushing back Ignaroth.
Ignaroth was in disbelief. He was an early Greater Demon.
As far as he recalled, Summoner could only contend against Lesser Demon nobles, a major rank below than him.
But the Summoner in front of him...
He wasn’t even making a move, letting his summoned solely pushing him back again and again.
Ignaroth was exasperated. He didn’t have a choice but to keep focusing on Max he couldn’t reach.
The Infernal Challenge forced him to neglect them.
At this point, it was now a battle of attrition. Ignaroth still had an enormous mana reserves, while Max observed that his mana points were being drained rapidly.
He also observed his radiant knights’ status.

Max frowned. Radiant Oracles’ mana points were depleting. At this rate, they might unable to keep up with Ignaroth.
Max silently sighed.
Ignaroth was showing why he was an unfathomable demon. His foundation at his current major rank was solid compared to Serakith.
Well, if he was injured by Branna, my Radiant Knights might have already killed him.
Max observed for a while. His Radiant Knights were trying their utmost to push back Ignaroth, while the latter was desperately trying to get close to him, attacking him from afar.
Max stared at him indifferently.
Ignaroth was provoked. He felt humiliated by Max’s gaze, intensifying his attack.
Max suddenly said, "Why won’t you give up?"
His words caused Ignaroth be distracted, allowing a golden arrow to successfully penetrate on his skin.
The Radiant Marksman had finally targeted a spot his armor failed to cover up from a certain position.
A chain reaction followed.
Radiant Knights with long range attacks drained away his health, while the Radiant Vanguard and Radiant Duelist had finally wounded him.
The neck he protected earlier with his thick armor and dense Hellfire failed to withstand from their assault.
However, Ignaroth continued his attempt—it was now his last stand.
The Radiant Knights had finally broke through his protection and Ignaroth didn’t back down.
He had never tasted defeat before once he performed the Infernal Challenge.
But now... he was about to.
He didn’t want to give up.
He continued, until his left leg was forced to drop into the ground.
Max grinned.
"I admire your passion, but your grave has already been dug."
