Chapter 69: Summoner

[You have killed a Greater Demon, B-Rank.

You have been granted 80,000 EXP.

Congratulations, you are now Level 90.]

Max was delighted. He was now getting closer in his second-class advancement. He wanted to become a summoner already.

The system also notified him that he had gained 9 Free Stat Points. He now had 11 Free Stat Points in total.

Without hesitation, he distributed them to his durability. He wanted to lessen the debuff that a Greater Demon could afflict him.

[Your durability is now 32 points.

You won’t receive a debuff from C-rank creatures.

You’ll receive a debuff of 30% at maximum from B-rank creatures, depending on their minor level.]

Max heaved a sigh of relief.

He drank a mana potion, stored his offensive equipments, and focused on the path ahead.

After an hour, his eyes lit up when he saw a wooden carriage going at them.

He slowed down the horses’ movement until the wooden carriage’s driver also spotted them and snapped the rein, slowing down their horses.

When they faced each other, Max’s horses snorted in arrogance to the opposite horses.

With the active runes by Archmage Arlen and having survived an attack from the demons, the horses felt they became stronger and also... became arrogant.

Max didn’t pay heed to their behavior and dismounted.

He walked towards the driver and asked, "May I ask the identity of the esteemed person behind? I am Maximus Grant, an Arcane Caster, a disciple of Archmage Arlen Mireth."

Before the driver could reply, the wooden carriage’s door was abruptly opened. A mage walked out.

Judging from his aura, he was at C-rank, causing Max to be disappointed. A single mere C-rank mage couldn’t possibly be the hero he needed. He wouldn’t even be surprised he could defeat him because of how high his skills’ proficiency and how solid his foundation was.

The C-rank mage hastily ran towards him and greeted him.

He said, "So, you’re the disciple of Archmage Arlen Mireth? I’m David Werner, his replacement in the Greyfen Village.

A Summoner."

As soon as he heard a single word during David’s introduction, Max’s eyes lit up. His previous lame impression on David vanished.

He greeted back.

"Nice to meet you, David Warner.

I won’t beat around the bush, the demons have invaded and pursued us along the way when we were returning to the capital.

Teacher has already been slain by them. Best, we must return and inform the capital. I don’t know their other intention aside from targeting—"

Before Max could finish his words, a demonic aura had exploded behind them.

Max frowned. The demonic aura caused him to be debuff by 20%.

He gritted his teeth and turned towards David, whose facial expression turned serious. He might not be affected since he was also at peak C-rank, but he instantly understood he couldn’t defeat the demon alone.

Max and David faced the demon. The wooden carriage driver had already run away and escaped after peeing in his pants.

They saw a demon with 2.8 meters height. He had a broad shoulder and his muscle were heavy. His physique resembled that of a veteran warrior than a monstrous brute.

His skin was dark charcoal-black covered in numerous battle scars.

Small cracks across his body emitted a faint orange glow, resembling a cooling magma.

He has a two forward-curving horns, ember-red eyes, and short black mane extending down his neck.

He wore an infernal plate armor and behind his back was a large two-handed greatsword forged from infernal iron.

While they were mesmerized by the demon, David suddenly noticed the aura radiated by the horses Max had used through his peripheral vision.

He asked Max, "I don’t think you can run away from it even with the horses you have."

Max nodded. "How powerful are you?"

"Not enough compared to that demon."

"I still think we can defeat it."

David sighed. "I hope I have the same courage as you.

I can still buy you enough time. You should escape."

"No." Max shook his head. "We should injure it first before thinking of escaping. I have two horses. You can have the other."

"Alright. That’s a good idea."

Ignaroth heard their conversation and flew into rage.

Max sneered after successfully provoking Ignaroth and took out potions after potions and drank them, removing the debuffs of Fear, strengthening his magical output, reinforcing his concentration, and improving his casting rhythm.

Despite the side-effects, Max didn’t care anymore and risked everything for this battle.

David raised his staff and summoned eight of his contracted Shadow Wolves in three seconds. freёwebnovel.com

Ignaroth actually gave them time to prepare despite being enraged. He wanted them to feel despair at all costs.

Max, on the other hand, simply raised his staff and pointed at the demon. After David was finally ready, he provoked Ignaroth.

"What are you waiting for? Come."

Ignaroth roared at the top of his lungs and channeled hellfire into his greatsword after unsheathing it behind his back.

His greatsword exploded with hellfire, twisting the space around it.

Max could feel it was scorching hot and he smiled bitterly.

Bring it on. He thought.

At the same time, he watched as the eight Shadow Wolves took on a formation fearlessly. They scattered around, waiting for Ignaroth to come into them.

Ignaroth noticed their formation and snorted.

He propelled himself forward using bursts of Hellfire from his feet.

He instantly arrived in front of the eight Shadow Wolves and swung his great sword, attempting to release a concentrated arc of Hellfire to destroy them at once.

However, just as he was about to fully swing his sword, Max moved quickly and pointed his staff three meters away from Ignaroth.

His already being cast Mana Pulse exploded, causing the great sword’s direction to be reverted.

Ignaroth held his breath in shock.

He couldn’t believe that a mere concentrated mana of a D-Rank human not only stopped his great sword but also pushed it.

What he didn’t know was that, aside from having high intelligence points, causing his Mana Pulse to be powerful, and being at Master Level, Max timely cast two Mana Pulse at once...
